SYM Citycom 300i

Citycom 300i rules! – I am riding on my second 300i. Standard issue, no modifications. It definitely is the best scooter I ever had (at my active: 68 between motorcycles and scooters during 61 years of riding and racing, in the 28 countries in which I have lived and worked). It delivers exactly as is promised: excellent road holding, behaving like a motorcycle in turn, a dream of fuel consumption (32 km/l and I am not a feather, lol) and perfect on freeways. Excellent with a passenger as well. The first I rode for 51,000 km and after that traded it in for a new one, which I have ridden for 6 years (18,000 km). The worst thing is that now it is not anylonger available. What a pity! One word of advice: I have for many years only used Amsoil, but I have recently found that the fully synthetic Valvoline 5W/30 is even better, leaving the old Bramax for dead.
Not perfect but almost – Possibly most under-rated scooter on the market. Second hand prices in NZ are ludicrously low. Bought new in 2008 now has 18,500km. If battery is healthy always starts first time. Replaced starter solenoid at 10,000km, my fault as I wash it regularly. Only other starting issue is the microswitch in the starter button, needs a blast with contact cleaner occasionally, fixed - take note. Only other issue was the large Chinese manufactured bearing on the final drive axle. Badly worn after on 15,000km. All the rest has Japan stamped on them and they were perfect. Replaced then anyway since I was in there. There is one for sale currently here in NZ with 138,000km on it. Fitted a Gianelli Muffler, DNA air filter, Shorai Li-ion battery and run 100 octane fuel. Always replace engine oil with mobil 1 0-40 full synthetic at 3000kms as scheduled. It really does go well and I love it.

Ticks every box – this scooter can do everything. Quicker in the twisties than Harleys and Road bikes (depending on the rider of course). It leans like a road bike, and has plenty of punch. The 16inch wheels soak up the pot holes and bumps. There are not many 300cc scooters in Oz that have an upright sitting position. Most are laid back arm chairs. This one is a true sports scooter. Has heaps of storage space under the seat and even has a cigarette lighter plug to charge your phone. Love this bike and love riding it. The only thing I changed on mine was the windscreen. I shortened it as I am not that tall (5'-6") and hated looking over the top of the screen.
SYM CityCom 300i – Most reliable scooter I have owned. 28,000k now. Great build quality, Maxxis tyres wear well (20K) but not too grippy in wet. Replaced with Pirellis GTS - great improvement. Get nearly 300km for a tankful - just under 10litres for a fill. OK for short riders to - me 5"5'. Seat tapers at the front and allows good stance at lights. Reliable, very economical, good peformance, great storage, looks good
One of the best for city and open road riding! – I just love this scooter. It allows my 6' 3" height to sit comfortably on a very good seat. The Citycom's scooters height with 16 inch wheels allow for great viewing in city traffic. Under seat storage is quiet good and with an added top box you have more than adequate storage for 4 shopping bags, or camping gear for weekend trips or all your business gear like a laptop plus wet weather gear, first aid kit etc.
Handling is excellent and i find the standard Maxxis tyres are fine for high speed rides(125k/hr) are great. Through the twisties you can get a decent lean and I have no trouble keeping up with more powerful bikes.
Acceleration at the lights is very good and for night riding the stock standard lights are very good.
Overall one of the best scooters made, very good for city riding as well as weekend rides or longer rides interstate.
Overall build quality is excellent and in Australia the SYM scooter brand comes with a 4 year parts and labour warranty.
For taller riders up to 6' 5" in height this is an excellent choice.
Breaks are good with one disc on the front.
Two up riding around the city is a breeze though you will need more horses for long distance 2 up cruising. Great for taller riders. Very good build quality. Handling is excellent. Great for city and weekend riding.

Have now done 39,000kms on this scooter since new. Hasn't missed a beat. Cannot fault this Citycom.
