Not happy – I previously owned a Parklander trimmer & my son-in-law now has it. Still working about 25+ yrs old & virtually no problems. I loved that trimmer so was happy to pay the price to get what I was told the same machine under a new name so bought the Tanaka TBC-230S six years ago, no problem till now just out of warranty period. First issue I was told… Read more

by repairer that the muffler was coked up (which I didn't believe) but he got it going again. Now a few weeks later it won't start at all. I am happy to pay the high price for a quality unit but I am not happy with this machine.

I have owned my Tanaka TBC4000 whipper snipper for 31 years – in 31 years I have replaced the drive cable once and 1 spark plug. To me this is reliability and value for money. I use it twice a week at least and it is the single best purchase I have made. Show details

Had mine over ten years, never missed a beat – Very easy to start, It is an average weight for a petrol whipper snipper. Have an 800 sq.mtr. yard, handles it well. The line system is OK. It is extremely reliable. would buy another one. Show details

Brilliant – Japanese quality. Like echo and shindaiwa these trimmers are basically a lifetime friend. V If you can get hold of one grab it as this model is discontinued but I grabbed one last week for $20. The guy said the plug needs replacing but all it needed was a bit of a tune. Runs beautifully.. Heaps of power and easy to start. Also the kaatz… Read more

corporation mitsubishi powered trimmers are brilliant.. I've got one of those too. Basically anything Japanese is excellent quality.

Dependable and tough – Easy to start even when unused for months with old fuel. I’ve had mine for over 7 years and I’ve never serviced it - never needed to. Still has the same spark plug and filter. Always easy to start and has plenty of grunt to cut through thick buffalo grass. the alloy head is nice too - less fuss than those bump-feed heads  Show details

I love my Tanaka and couldn't be without it – I love my Tanaka. It cuts well with both heads and always starts for me except when it is hot if I have to turn it off for some reason. This is my second one and I have probably had it for 2 years with no problems. The user manual is not good though. I couldn't remember how to remove the head to put the blade on and the manual gave no instructions so I had to take it into the dealer from whom I bought it.  Show details

Best for price by a mile – Great little whipper snipper. Had mine for may years and still going strong - even after a friend tried to seize it by running wrong fuel!. By far my best garden tool buy. Tip: Honda heads fit some models as replacement original head will be difficult to find - discontinued more's the pity.

Availability or dealers or areas who have them – Great lightweight trimmer. I have a dealer 15 min from me here in Massachusetts. But recently had to replace return grommet on fuel tank that ripped an fuel was leaking. They ordered it for me an I got it within a few days. But now I can't get it to start after taking the carburetor apart because it was leaking fuel. I believe whoever had it prior… Read more

to me didn't rebuild the carb right. They have walbro carbs on them an there are a lot of gaskets an they have to be in the exact place. Going to try an work on it today some more to get her running because it's mowing season an I need it! If I can't I will just order a brand new carb. Awesome machine an love how light it is. I'd recommend it but they do not carry this model anymore in the dealerships, which is fine because they have more powerful ones now on there product line. I may even buy a second for an upgrade there that good of a machine. It started first pull everytime an idled perfect. A lot of trimmers these days don't do that because a lot of people do not take care them or properly maintain them. It's mainly if not always a carb issue that goes wrong an gives you trouble on small engines such as this one.

Nobody stocks it as standard – Disappointing that after reading good reviews none of the listed distributors actually carry this product. One had it 'on order' for me but 3 weeks later with no updates I gave up. Second listed distributor said he rarely orders them in because no demand. If few of the Sydney retailers carry the line I have concerns after after service so chose a different brushcutter.

Commercial quality trimmer.Streets ahead, in terms of quality, than anything you could buy at Bunning – Just use a good quality mineral based two stroke oil such as Castrol Activ 2Tt to prevent carbon build ups. .These machines should last 20 twenty years or more in domestic use.

Perfect trimmer – I am replacing this model with the latest model after using it for 8 years. It is very light and it has started without problems ever since I have had it. Being a female I wanted a cutter that suited me, as some of the others were too heavy or needed heavy hand to start them. The string is easy to install and flows out easily as required. I am replacing it because I broke it and not through normal use. Reliable, light weight body easy to handle

reliable – I've had this brush cutter for approx 18? years. I bought a Masport lawnmower and Tanaka brush cutter and blower at the same time to do commercial and domestic work. The masport is a fantastic mower but recently after breaking down for the third time, had it's Briggs and Stratton Quantum IC engine replaced. The chassis is alloy and can't rust so… Read more

was kept.

The Tanaka equiptment has NEVER been maintained and apart from the switches packing it in, they have run faithfully over a very long period of time. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the brand again, and the reason I purchased that brand in the first place was recommendations from other people as well as being the weapon of choice by the local council at the time. reliability and functionality zilch

light and so easy to start – I bought my Tanaka about 4 years ago. I have a 15acre bush block. It works hard. I have never had to do any repairs on it.Its start within 3 pulls every time. Its light for long days of work. I can say enough good things about it. Did I mention how easy it is to start. Easy to start, reliable, easy to load new cord, very light

Very dissapointed – I have a Tanaka whipper snipper , its 2 years old. I have correctly maintained it & used correct fuel at the right ratio. The air filter was washed & dried montghly & replaced annually as they recommend, also replaced the spark plug annually. It has started to run very (very) poorly. I am up for an expensive repair. Won't be buyting another one.… Read more

Easy to start It has broken down after only two years, after having been used once a week on a domestic lawn

Excellent – I have been using my beloved TBC-230-BS for the last 15 months, and I cannot say enough great things about it. For starters (no pun intended), Tanaka's "S-Start" system is simply ingenius. My dealer claims that he has challenged shoppers to buy a trimmer that is easier to start if they can find it. Naturally, they shop around and always come… Read more

back to the Tanaka. Not only does this starting system make it easier for all ages to operate the trimmer, it also allows easy starts while the machine is suspended from your shoulder.

Whether going through a vacant block with waist-high weeds or just around the back garden, the TBC-230-BS has plenty of revs to get the job done. Unlike other units, it performs well with minimal "shake" to the operator.

Over many months of usage, the Tanaka has performed near flawlessly. For best results, I mix the fuel at 50:1 and use 2.5mm trimming cord, but those are only my personal preferences. The only negative is a small one: the design of the hook for the shoulder strap on the machine. It could be a slightly better design because the strap comes off every now and then while twisting through the tight brush. In hindsight, maybe the hook should be perpendicular to the drive shaft instead of parralel, but it is small glitch in an otherwise superb product.

Two very enthusiastic "thumbs up" for the Tanaka TBC-230-BS!!! The "quiet achiever" of the line trimmer market

Easy starting system which requires only two fingers to pull

Plenty of power from a well-tuned engine

Japanese-made quality

The very first brand of line trimmer imported to Australia

Five-year warranty is tops

Very light to maneuver

Easy to maintain

Good network of professional dealers

The one really built to last Shoulder strap occasionally pops off its hook on the unit
