Tea Gardens Ferry

Tea Gardens Ferry – The ferry is a great trip from Nelson Bay to Tea Gardens. Built in the 1940s it takes an hour to travel across the bay and up the Myall river. The staff are friendly and give a commentary. Dolphins can be spotted on the way. Once at Tea Gardens a quick walk along the river followed by lunch then another wander before heading back.
Not as advertised – Took the ferry from Nelson Bay to Tea Gardens. Advertising materials state that there is commentary. No commentary on the way, so we thought it would be on the way back, but still no commentary. Dolphins sited 95% of the time, no sign of dolphins either way, but this is nature. Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest are not very interesting. Paid $30 which included lunch at the local pub, which was ok.
Very Disappointed – I took my sister from Victoria on the ferry to Tea Gardens yesterday. It leaves from Nelson Bay in Port Stephens. So disappointed as there were not enough seats for everyone, so many had to stand. It was announced that the ferry is legally allowed to carry a certain amount of standing passengers but there were passengers from a tour bus, many who were elderly with walking frames and walking sticks. Think because the ferry trip takes between 1 hour and a half, all passengers should have a seat as we all paid the same.
