waste of money and time – IT takes HOURS to heat up to a lukewarm temperature, which doesn NOT produce steam, just a tepid heat. Cannot get any ssistance with trouble shooting. We have followed EVERY insyttruction (YES, we DID put water in the reservoir). HUGE waste of money. The "extra" items (add-ons) never arrived, which doesn't matter as it doesnt work anyway. don't buy this product, very unsafe and at best below average performance – Was very excited to replace my iron with this steamer but what a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. Firstly it is very unsafe and to try and effectively do some usual ironing I had to resort to using an oven glove to stop the steam from burning me as I attempted to Iron. Much slower than using a regular iron (even for someone who hates using on Iron). Hot… Read more

Power trips causing shutting down the whole house's electricity – Bought this from Myer when on sale. When I first bought it it was ok, but as time goes by, the performance was getting worse and worse and could not get much wrinkles off despite the steam was getting hotter and hotter. I put up with until just after warranty expired, it decided to trip the power of the house. Whenever it was plugged in, the… Read more

whole house's power was shut down and the main power needed to be switch back on.

I thought it was a waste to chuck it so I searched Tefal website to find an official repairer. We called him and he said he stopped repairing Tefal a couple months ago. Called other private repairer , they said it would cost $50 to just inspect it. I assume even if it was repairable it would cost more than purchase price. I only bought it for $99, who wants to spend more in repairing than buying a new one.

What a joke ! Now I have to really throw it away... Would not buy another Tefal product ! !

Very pleased indeed – I can at least give a review based on the fact that I had never used a garment prior, that I am fastidious and fussy about ironing and I am one which likes to press just about everything. 1. Dissapointment - no creaser! I want one! First of all I recommend that you appreciate it as a completely different device just as you would an iron… Read more

for the first time. The garment steamer is more of a challenge due to the fact that our parents didn't have one. So this means learning and gaining a skill a little more challenging. If you are like me, super busy with limited time to achieve top class results, you want it all to happen within 30 minutes of getting the garment steamer out of the box.

So not to drag my review out. I absolutely love it! My neighbour came in and saw me use it. She immediately purchased one. The only time I ever use the iron is for bedsheets, pillow cases, tea towels and to achieve a fine crisp crease on business shirts as well as a well ironed collar.

As for suits the steamer is absolutely brilliant. Love it on my delicate blouses, no heat settings required just off you go with results in a few seconds. About 30 seconds to steam a T-shirt! Just love it. Have had it for 15 months. No I will never part with it. Saves so much time! Ironing is a chore. The garment steamer just makes it so much a lighter and easier tast. Just make sure you have a lot of hangers. I keep steamed clothing hung for a while before box folding or placing in the wardrobe just so any condensation or slight dampness is gone.

Just wish they had a creaser!

Pretty good but I still need an iron – Have updated my review from the previous 1-star review. I purchased the Tefal IS6300 but found that it leaks water from the base. Big puddles of water. This was when filling it short of the line that they use to indicate the maximum. I've found that if you fill it about halfway full, well short of the actual indicated line, then it works… Read more ·  1

without leaking. Then it does the job pretty well.

It's not a replacement for an iron that delivers properly ironed, crisp business shirts but it does the job quickly on casual button-up shirts that are a bit too wrinkled. I still use it for business shirts but I basically do a quick once-over, then iron - I find it shortens the ironing time required.

Also, I noticed a comment from someone who is 171 cm and has to hunch to use this on their shirts. I'm taller than that and have no issues. There is a telescopic adjustment which helps you raise the adjustable arm so I'm wondering if that's what is causing the issue for the other user.

So all in all a pretty worthwhile purchase. It's just a bit annoying that it leaks if you follow the instructions but if you only fill it halfway, it's good.

Quick, smart and reliable – I am one of those ladies that enjoys ironing. So when I came upon the steamer I thought just for a quick item it will suffice. good for you and how to make use of the steamer to your ability. The only downer is it’s not suitable for bed sheets, therefore the need of the iron is still in use. I enjoy my steamer and will replace if ever need be.

Beware though, it does excel hot steam and at times may splutter hot water. This is rare, but just be aware.

Press & steam. Clever – For those who don't like ironing and chores in general. Get this. Steams with a roll down backing 'pad'. Just an extra help with supporting the clothes for the hard to straighten areas. Doesn't feel like a chore. Takes little time to heat up. And clothes just feel fresher. Use it to steam the bed as well. Kills bed bugs!  Show details

Got 5 years usage, then it tried to electrocute me – As per many reviews, mine has started tripping the safety switch too. That said, we had around 5 years usage, which isn't terrible, and these reviews weren't apparent back then. I had begun to notice some apparent calcification dropping out of it in recent months and if I had knocked the unit out more often, it may have lasted longer. I was a fan and far prefer steaming over ironing. Might need to try another brand this time. Show details

Not worth it long term - even if it's on sale – Given this steamers RRP is around $229 the fact that I got it for $150 I thought was amazing. It was good, not incredible, when I first got it. Great when it worked, now trips house power – Loved this steamer while it worked. I've had it for around 5 years but it has randomly decided to trip the power every time I turn it on. Seems like a common issue experienced by others based on other reviews. A shame because it was kept clean and not used all that often, it still looks almost brand new. Knowing what I now know, I would not re-purchase.

place the steam handle while you prepare your garment to get steamed. So the steamer handle is held either with one hand while you struggle to place the garment on the stand or you simply have to leave it on the floor to steam your carpet for a few minutes. Steamer tripping power but Tefal were very easy to deal with – My steamer also started tripping the power when I turned it on and of course it was 2 months out of warranty. I rang Tefal and they were very helpful and authorised David Jones to replace the steamer. I still had all my paper work and receipts, which is probably a requirement. The product was great for what we used it for and I have rated Tefal excellent purely on their response to the problem.  Show details

Really useful but leaking reservoir an electrical hazard – Not sure why but my steamer is tripping my electrical system. Suspect that its a leak from the water reservoir. Of course this would happen just outside the 2 year warranty window which makes this an expensive purchase. Pity because I found it useful in getting the teenagers to smarten up their clothes without fear of ruining them.  Show details

The only thing that works as designed on this is that steam comes out of one end – I really wanted to like this. I thought it would make life easier. Unfortunately, keeping clothes on it sucks. The clips don't even hold up my light suit pants very well (they don't have much grip). The clothes hanger attachment is too low. If you want to steam a formal shirt, you basically have to unbutton it, button it over the main holder,… Read more

then steam the front. Then undo the buttons, flip the garment, button it on backwards and steam the other side. The back of the unit has a tension knob, so you can't really steam the back of a shirt without leaving an imprint of it on there unless you do this flipping thing. It's not particularly wide either, so trying to get clothes to remain straight is a problem. This means I remove creases, but if I let go new creases form before my jacket cools down.

I'm not very tall, but even I found that my clothes were hanging about a foot lower than is comfortable to steam with.

That brush attachment that is included - after 2 uses, it fell off the steam wand and I can't get it to stay back on. The steam wand itself gets fairly hot.

The roll and press system is a good idea, but it would be better if they had one in front and one in the back to offset this problem. Speaking of offset, the steam wand storage is right on top. It gets in the way if you want to add or remove clothes from the unit (since the low hanging clothes hanger attachment is too low for proper use). This should be offset to the side so it doesn't interfere with operation.

My overall feeling is that somebody came up with a bunch of random features that look good on paper, but then nobody at Tefal decided to take a prototype home and actually test it before it entered production. If we hadn't thrown out the box already, I would have returned it. Since I have it, I think I'm going to try and modify it to add some sort of roll and press system on the back, an additional clothes hanger point further up and an offset holder.

For the $200 (Australian) that I paid for this on sale, it's not remotely worth it. I would have been better off buying a cheaper Phillips one, especially if I'm going to add those features in myself.

Quick and easy but failed outside 2 warrantee – Its not a prefect on heavy wrinkles but i reduce spinning the shirts in the washing machine so the steamer just finishes off nicely. It did cut ironing time so I really like using a steamer, but it died just outside 2 years warrantee, I brought this from retavision in August 2014 and it stopped working January 2017, so this steamer is a bit on the pricey side for its short life. Money waster – The Tefal Steam & Press, Save your money. Its not as simple as shown in demo's, it won't get out heavy wrinkles, you can do it far quicker with an iron and the garment comes out a little damp. Maybe it could work as a window cleaner, its a waste of money.  Show details

Doesn't remove even the smallest creases – If you are looking to remove some creases don't bother. It is cumbersome to use and burns my hand more than it removes creases. My advice is stick with an iron. My $40 iron gets better results. Spoke with Tefal customer service they were pretty blunt and said it's not an iron. Doubt I will buy anything from Tefal again.  Show details

Good but not great – I bought this 18 months ago, hoping it would help with ironing linen shirts. trouble in regards to leakage, but unfortunately now it doesn't work at all, although the light is lit indicating power is on. To be honest, for the price, I'm disappointed that it didn't last as long as a friend's $50 steamer from Big W which is still going strong. I'm not convinced it is worth the extra cost despite its advantages of quick warm up time, good sized water tank, and more powerful steam supply.

As another review mentioned, it would benefit from a glove and crease attachment (especially as the US equivalent does have the crease attachment included). I also found that the pole extension didn't allow for longer dresses, meaning I could do the top part of a dress but then had to hang it elsewhere to finish it off.

Average performance for it's price – Bought the IS6300 from Myers during promotion. I've used a couple garment steamers prior to this model. This is the most expensive model I've purchased and honestly feel it's overpriced for performance similar to steamers below $100. I chose this model due to the vertical support but the price difference between this and the IS6200 doesn't seem… Read more

justified because the support wasn't as useful as I thought it would be. A glove would be more effective IMO.

One thing I found irritating is that the max height is too short even for me. My height is 171cm and I have to hunch to iron my clothes.

Pros

It does work for materials that are easy to iron.

Easy to move around with tilt and go system.

Fast to start steaming

Like the hanger system.

Leg operated On/Off switch

Cons

An iron is still more effective.

Short max height makes it very difficult to iron.

No glove or crease attachment.

Conclusion

After this experience, I think I'll just learn how to iron properly with a proper iron.
