First class rubbish!!! – I've owned a Tough Max 1 and 2. The first one had the high gain antenna port fall out after the phone was out of warranty, so I replaced it with a Tough Max 2. I had a lot of poor reception issues with the first one, so I discussed these probs with Telstra before I got a Tough Max 2. They assured me that the 2 was much better and these issues had… Read more

been resolved. This isn't the case, the new phone only has reception when it's plugged into an external high gain antenna. You can stand in the middle of Sydney without the external antenna and the phone has no reception at all. My advice, get something else!!

Rubbish Phone – Absolute rubbish phone, don’t buy one. Bought two for rural coverage but the external aerial port keeps breaking. They won’t cover it under warranty and say it is user damage. Only had the first for a week and now second has broken again within a few months of replacement. It never leaves the shelf it sits on. Will never purchase another. Show details

Rubbish – On to our 3rd telstra tough max 2 through warranty. This time thought it was going to work but no such luck. Now just keeps powering on and off with blue screen. Had it back 3 weeks this time, nearly a record. Telstra wont extend the warranty either as they take the date of the first phone so have been using old faithful for nearly 3 years… Read more

without internet etc. As soon as I put the sim cards (new each time) into the tough max it starts playing up. Useless phone and a waste of $500 or more and a lot of travel to get to shop to send away again. Yep its tough, but whats the point if it never works and signal is the worst ever, always out of range when everyone else around is fine.

Pretty good for people who drop there phones alot – Its pretty bold for me I've had this phone for a bit over 6 months now its one of the best phone I've had but I've only had 5 other phones iPhone SE, Telstra phone that was super crap ,iPhone 4 and a iPhone 6s, for me its pretty good I purchased it at around April or may in 2019 I am always dropping my phone and I've only had one protector screen… Read more

that I broke it about took it of after about 1 month of having the phone now my phone has a few scratches and dents the wireless charging did work for a bit but I must have of broken it which I'm fine with because charging with it plunged in is much faster that wireless charging the front camera shat itself recently but the back camera still works fine charging is pretty fast about 40 mins of and not using the phone and it will be at 100% it can keep battery life for about 6-7 hours though out the day on continues use it will last about 2-4 hours depending on what you are doing. The brightness is pretty good. I really use the phone for games, YouTube, (messaging, calling obviously ),and social media its pretty good for all of those things when playing games it doesn't lag to much or at all. The camera is not good in dark or very light place like most phones I don't know much about the antena port but other reviews say its not to good not the range for my phone is pretty good but I've only really used it in Perth and a couple of times in remote places and its like most other phones sometimes the super key is annoying because I like to keep it on for screen shots and the torch but sometimes when in me pocket my torch turns on or I go to my photos folder and there are a bunch of screen shots of my lock screen phone calls work like mist phone it doesn't drop out and if it does its not that much I live at a place were the reception is crap and it work fine for messages most if the time and phone calls I go to the spot of the house with the best reception its works fine the touch sensor is pretty bad I don't know if its my fingers or the sensor it works but its annoying sometimes because I keep putting my finger on it and it say incorrect but when I do my password and touch it accidentally I have to do it again also the audio jack is a bit to big and my earphone don't work in it unless I push it in the right spot the home, back and menu button's are physical button's the speaker is a pit annoying because its in the back of the phone not on the bottom or side its annoying because its facing away from the screen

Absolute rubbish – I had the tough max 2 for a little over 12 months. In the first few weeks there was a large yellow mark in the screen from pressure in the pocket. I had poor network coverage on a continual basis. Finally the touch screen wouldn't work and it just died. I was advised that it would be a waste of time to repair. This is the 2nd tough max phone both… Read more

had similar problems. Do buy them they are rubbish. I have wasted nearly 2k on this so called tough phone.

Rear aerial plug – I purchased a T85 to attach to my nudge bar antenna for extra signal whilst travelling on outback roads. The rear patch lead plug was always tight, and did not seem to go in a long way. I purchased this phone in March 2019, used it on a 3 month road trip to darwin and return. The patch plug never seemed to fit over the bronze lug in rear of phone,… Read more

and would sometimes come loose. The internal aerial plug fell out 2 weeks ago, and telstra would not cover this by warranty. The other functions on this phone worked well. I only had this phone for 6 months, but, now i will go back to my reliable Discovery 4 which has the same reat port for an aerial plug. This has been working for 10 years and will do the job. I picked up another mobile for $79 yesterday. I will never pay $432 for another mobile that falls apart

Poor service – Bought phone thinking it would have great service, is the worst phone yet for service. Camera now has a fault in it and won't work and is only 6 months old. Think tough mad has gone soft!

Ineffectual Rural Phone - Do Not Purchase – The T 85 is the most ineffectual rural phone to date. I live and work in rural and remote areas and the signal strength is poor. The phone constantly drops out while in use. It is very slow with data transfer. I am unable to make phone calls in-side my house despite live 1 km from the centre of a regional town of 35 000 people. The back up service from Telstra is poor and continue to offer all the excuses for the crap product they sell. Show details

Worst Phone Ever – I purchased this phone as I'm in a low signal area. Supposed to be blue tick, what a joke my old Samsung S5 gets better reception. Terrible problems with calls dropping out, features are difficult to use, never again a ZTE phone, dropped it once and the protective cover cracked, Show details

Tough but not unbreakable – Yes I have dropped this phone a dozen times without a scratch but only when I dropped it on floor tiles the screen cracked but it works OK but when I dropped my Samsung s7 on road surface it immediatly cracked screen and would not work. I brought a new screen protector for the T85 off ebay and it looks like new.  Show details

Terrible reception – Does not function on non Telstra network well it is unlocked technically but in reality it is locked to Telstra but they don't tell you that if you're buying it. It work well about 10% of the time then nothing it's not the network as if I swap SIM out to old phone then reception is great again  Show details

Not tough at all – Dropped the phone from a height of two feet and the screen cracked in several places. The screen is so brittle and the screen protector is not much better. Telstra claim this phone has superior reception in remote areas but our Samsung S5 has better reception and has stood up to years of abuse with no damage.  Show details

Reasonably good, but needs some attention to the finer details – This phone came with some obvious errors in the printed & PDF user manual, which seem to be symptomatic of Telstra not exercising due diligence with the translation from the manufacturer's foreign language to English. The phone comes with a tempered glass screen protector which has been manufactured back to front - ie - when installed, the cutouts… Read more

at the top of the protector which should go around the camera aperture, are actually on the other side of the phone where there is no need to have a cut out. Even though this was reported in writing to Telstra weeks ago, they have not responded as per their 5 day contact guarantee. The screen protector also sticks on unevenly, leaving blotchy opaque patches on the touchscreen. There are limited accessories available for this model phone, so be cautious if you would like to buy a case for protection or if you would like a kickstand, as you may be waiting a while until they are released for this model. Feature for feature, this phone compares favourably with its nearest competitors in the Samsung range. So far everything else is working as it should & it will be interesting to see if the phone lives up to its "Tough" claim.

What a rip off – I bought the Tough max because friends had the earlier model and said how great it was. I have been using a Samsung S5. I expected the Max to be at least as good as the Samsung in reception. No way. I cannot even use it in the house. Having good reception is important to me as I am out in the bush a lot. When I went back to my Telstra dealer I was… Read more

told that there are different levels of blue tick. The Max is just not as good as the Samsung. I could pay $65 to have it checked out by Telstra but it would also have to be sent away. The other reason I bought the Max was it had a remote aerial port. When I enquired about a remote aerial I was told Telstra does not sell them!

Last week I dropped it and the screen protector broke. I went into the Telsta shop in Toowoomba - no! we do not sell them either! - so even though I have a Telstra phone I can not buy parts or accessories for it from Telstra!
