The Heater Man

I have an older Escea DL850 fireplace. It has issues lighting in the rain (a known/common problem in online forums with this product. Escea's direct advice is to install a power flue !!!). We could not replicate the fault at the time of the call as the weather was fine although I showed videos of the fault. Mason (the technician) was great -… Read more
polite, prompt, professional and thorough, explaining the likely causes of the problem to me and the action he was taking along the way. The service cost $365 and took about an hour. The only reason I have not given 5 stars is I suspect the problem in wet weather may persist as it has been happening for at least 6 months but remains to be seen. I am not in a position to change the flue.
Didn’t fix problem and overcharged – Gave poor rating because they didn’t fix problem and overcharged. It was taking ages to get my gas fire pilot light to ignite properly and I wanted it fixed. Service quote was $330. Aaron cleaned fireplace etc. It made no difference to the ignition problem. When I contacted them to report ignition problem had not been fixed and what it would… Read more
cost to replace the pilot valve, I was quoted a further $902.92! I asked for a breakdown of labour and parts in the quote which was never provided. I looked online and contacted the spare parts provider for my gas fireplace. They advised a new part was about $180. I asked if they could recommend someone (ie other than the Heater Man) to replace that part. He came within days, charged $300 and fixed the issue without even needing a new spare part. So the Heater Man would have charged over $1200 when it was fixed by someone else for $300. The Heater Man also provided a quote of $4,190 to supply and instal a new Rinnai gas water heater. When I queried 3 hours labour to instal it, I was told it needed 2 people as it weighed 70kg (even though it actually weighs less than half that). An online quote from Cass Bros for exactly the same thing was $2885.
Competent, efficient and courteous – A radiator in our hydronic heating system sprung a leak. The Heater Man organised a replacement under warranty from the manufacturer. Adam, one of their plumbers, removed the leaking radiator, installed the replacement, made sure the whole system was working, cleaned everything up and took away the old radiator, doing a very competent, efficient and courteous job.
An excellent representative for the company – Ry Mciness provided us with excellent service and advice on all our gas products. He went above and beyond his normal service call and in particular gave good advice on the state of our products as well as the gas meter which needed attention.
Fireplace service – Went to get my fireplace serviced ,three weeks later it failed after trying to get a booking for someone to come out got a call from the service guy and said maybe one of your parts on fireplace failed and it would be probably be another service fee and would let the office know for another booking. No one contacted me at all after that, weeks and… Read more
weeks later I contacted another service guy who came on time and let me know one day prior he was coming and found that one of the plugs wasn’t fully connected and charged me a minimal amount for call out. There are good service people out there I strongly believe in reviews but for some reason I didn’t check. I hope this might help someone cheers.
Wrong info, no follow up – Called the Heater Man in March 2022. Could not come until May 2022. Did not fix heater, said it needed new part. Came in July, said they didn't have part, would order it. Kept chasing them - no communication at all. Finally got back to me, said they had ordered wrong part. Again, kept chasing them, finally told that they didn't have the part, and… Read more
said it was unable to be procurred, This meant we had no heating all winter of 2022, plus a lot of time wasting trying to get any information. This year, called a different gas service. They came out the next day and fixed the heater in 5 MINUTES. Said it did not need a new part, but if it did, they stocked the part and could easily replace it. Also diagnosed the main problem with the heater lighting was the flue-something the Heater Man had never diagnosed. Overall, bad service and completely unable to do the job. Would not recommend.
Heater repair – Had two gas heaters repaired here. Professional prompt and friendly. They even refunded some money as they discovered I had been inadvertently overcharged. Highly recommended Show details
Spent $230 and still not working and not returning calls – The technician could only do very simple fixes (such as dusting and controller swap over) Our heater would not light up and I called the Heater Man. He came and did a "service" which means blow out any dust and give it a clean. Cost $230. That did not fix it. He said maybe it needed a new controller and said he would get one with the… Read more
correct "code" that matched the type of heater I had and would come back. He never returned.
I had concerns when I he arrived, as I asked what he thought was wrong. There was no confidence in his voice, just "let's give it a service" (dust and clean). He did not really understand what the controller code was for either and probably the reason he did not return.
No show – Made a booking with The Heater Man. Got email confirmation and also a reminder of the booking. These came not from The Heater Man, but from Rozelle Plumbing. Same address, so I guess it’s the same business. I responded and checked the time with the technician. Stayed home for the call. No show, no explanation. Sigh.
