The Solar Broker

At first, we were genuinely impressed. The analysis was detailed, they positioned themselves as industry veterans, and everything sounded reassuring. On that basis, we signed with them fairly quickly. First red flag: Through our own independent research, we discovered that the inverter specified in our contract was not CEC-approved at the time. We raised this with them, and while it appeared to be a genuine oversight, to their credit they acknowledged the issue and offered a $500 discount. On balance, we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Second red flag: Despite being clearly stated in the contract, further questioning on our part revealed that their revised recommendation could not actually provide the whole-of-house backup we required and had been promised. Again, we should have walked away—but once more, discounts were offered, and admittedly, that swayed us to continue.
Due to a combination of battery shortages and installer scheduling, we were later informed that the installation could not be completed in 2025. We were, however, explicitly promised that the system would be installed in early 2026 at the agreed price, with The Solar Broker absorbing any cost differences resulting from the reduced STC rebates. Trusting this assurance, we chose not to engage other installers who could have completed the same setup within 2025.
Then in January 2026, they unilaterally rescinded the contract. The reason given was that the reduced STC rebates no longer made the project financially viable for them—despite their earlier written assurances to the contrary. Following advice from Consumer Affairs and NETCC, I formally wrote to them seeking appropriate remedies. To date, they have chosen not to respond and have ignored follow-up calls and messages.
This review is therefore written to ensure prospective customers are aware of what we experienced: questionable claims, poor follow-through, and conduct that ultimately left us stranded.
Beyond lodging complaints with Consumer Affairs and NETCC/CEC, the most frustrating outcome is that I now feel morally obligated to withdraw all prior recommendations I made for them. At one point, I genuinely believed they were knowledgeable and sincere in how they attempted to rectify mistakes—a business practice I respected. To my friends and anyone on Reddit or Facebook who relied on my earlier recommendations, I apologise.

The Solar Brokers customer service is the worst - they are the most expensive - when you ring the contact person you are given, you are told they no longer work there (not a good sign). It takes weeks & weeks for anyone to call you back then when the supposed ‘boss’ does (seemingly he seems to be the only one working there), you can’t understand them as their phone keeps cutting in & out. Once you pay their overpriced amount as you are supposed to be getting the best !, if you have any issues they say well we will try to work this out over the phone - after me saying 5 times “no, I want you to come out & see what’s happening & get the app working in person as I don’t understand what’s going on” & getting more frustrated I was told there is no need to be so agitated - until I told him he was on speaker phone & the other person could hear them, quick change of attitude !! Trying to then blame our internet (apparently a very used excuse) when I asked again for them to come out & sort it out- I was again flubbed off - plus it is not getting as low electricity bill as they promised in the contract !!!! It is more than double what they promised & I asked for an explanation but none provided as they won’t come out to check the massively expensive system to see if it’s working correctly. So much for paying more than double what other solar providers charge !! Then when you are told the company is The Solar Brokers but they call themselves Cleopatra Marketing ???? Then when you find out that someone is taking them to court - it’s not the companies fault but apparently it’s the other person fault some floundering excuse about them complaining about the system & not paying them ??? DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY - the service is rubbish the salespeople are rubbish the people on the phone are rubbish & don’t pass on messages after leaving a lot ! - what more can I say but go buy a much cheaper system that works or at least has better customer service when you spend a fortune !!!!
