Make sure Thule tow ball is in the box, otherwise you will void your warranty – Thule velocompact love the bike carrier, I am using a hitch extender to get required clearance from tray, but make sure you get the Thule tow ball, I discovered you need these by by accident, during the research on buying one of these after i went to a stockist only to find the salesperson couldn't fit the carrier onto my Hilux tow ball, after… Read more

searching on lineI found an Australian YouTube post explaining the exact same issue and when he contacted Thule they said you need their tow ball, otherwise you run the risk of damage to the mount,( by cracking it) and voiding the warranty. I also rang Thule, and they confirmed this, and stated that they now come in the box, however the Thule tow ball was not in my box when delivered, I rang Thule and they sent one straight away. It does not state anywhere in the instruction that you must only use Thule tow ball, in fact it says its designed to fit with 50mm Australian tow balls. I have seen some reviews claiming the mount area on their carrier cracked, I imagine that they were not using the correct Thule tow ball, so please make sure you get their tow ball, particularly if you buy a second hand one off market place, which I nearly did, so glad I didn't .EDIT, they claim to be universal fitting now but Thule rep in Australia never said this which is why I got a Thule towball

Fantastic bike rack and customer service – I have a Thule VeloCompact 925, which I love and use ALL the time. Even though it's one of the less bulky racks, I still manage to get two mountain bikes on there comfortably, with a bit of a jiggle with the positions. Road and Tri bikes are a breeze. It's also really easy to install and take off for just one person of "normal" strength. … Read more

Recently I had a question in relation to the rack, so I wrote to Thule; and immediately had my response by the next morning, with a clear diagram to answer my question. I can totally recommend the product and the company.

Thule Velocompact 925 Bike Rack.....Great for Ebikes too – Easy to secure 2 large Ebikes It is sturdy and we have had no issues with movement whilst driving our bikes on this rack. We added 2 x velcro straps for extra security with our large tyres and we also use 2 x occy straps around the wheels to the roof racks on the car. Makes it very stable. Good quality, very happy with the purchase.

No good for small bikes and small cars – The Thule Hangon 3 was recommended to us as the most suitable bike rack for our needs, by the company that installed the necessary towbar. Having bought and installed it (very very easy to fit!) it became clear that the kids' bikes we have were too small to fit between the arms to which they needed to be fixed. We've managed to rig it, but I… Read more

wouldn't trust what we've done for a long distance or over bumps. We drive about 15min to get to our bike riding place.

Our car is a hatchback. We had a towbar fitted purposely to attach a bike rack. But the result is that the adult bikes are about 5cm off the road (when hung correctly) - again, fine for short distances, without bumps.

The distance between the clips for each of the 3 bikes is so close that the spokes of the wheels, the pedals, the handle bars and the gear cables all tangle. It puts a lot of strain on the equipment. Again, fine for short distances.

I would not recommend this bike rack, despite how easy it is to take on and off the car. Very disappointed, after much excitement.

Having paid so much for it, and not knowing of a better solution, we are persisting with it.

Find a way to trial your bike rack before shelling out the money.

Outstanding Customer Service for a replacement part Thule Roof Box – Picture this. Two years of cancelled bookings to Perisher and looking at the snow reports this season with envy. Pull the trusty Thule Motion XT XXL Roof Box out of safekeeping in the garage to throw on the roof rails the day before we eagerly head down. Open the box to clamp onto the rails and snap... the hinge thingy that opens the box in two… Read more

pieces...

Rang the retail store that supplied the box and they were helpful but didn't carry any replacement parts and delivery probably within a week. With just over a day to go and panic setting in, rang the importer/distributor of Thule direct. Once I figured out what model and part that I needed (LidLifter ML 120 XT) they confirmed that they had in stock and could courier to my local store the following afternoon. With the wife and clock counting down, they were also happy for me to pick up directly from their warehouse the next morning after I paid over the phone.

Fast forward to today, and I have the $16 replacement part in hand as they promised, along with a small surprise gift when I picked it up from the friendly warehouse crew. Also have a Youtube video of how to replace the part (relatively easy) and back on track to the snow!

Customer Service at it's best. Thank you.

Don’t buy a Thule tow ball mounted bike rack. They dispute their warranty – Probably okay for occasional use. The casting broke that holds the rack onto the ball. We were a thousand kms from home and after three days and many phone calls they would SELL me the replacement parts to get me out of trouble (very generous!). The rack was less than twelve months old and still under warranty. Very poor attitude from Thule… Read more

while trying to get this sorted. You could easily see the holes in the casting where it had broken. Sent photos to Thule but they didn’t want to know. It was my problem, left a very sour taste in my mouth.

Don't buy Thule if you need to rely on their spare parts backupsystem – If you ever need spare parts on a Thule rack, be prepared to wait and wait. They are not focussed on spare parts at all. You call and order spare parts and it takes weeks for them to send them. They dont care. Having owned Thule racks for over 10 years I would not support them anymore. Besides their racks are not made in sweden or europe.

Thule Tow Ball Mount VeloCompact 925 Fail – Bought a tow ball mounted Thule VeloCompact 925 in 2018 assuming that I had purchased something that would provide me with peace of mind when travelling with my bikes. Had use it only 3 times when it failed and damaged the bikes in January 2021. We were very lucky that the bike rack didn't completely detach itself from the vehicle. The thought of… Read more

what could potentially have happened, makes my stomach turn. Was asked to send photo of the bike rack by the place of purchase, which was supposedly passed onto Thule for review. The feedback received was that the bike rack should only be fitted to cars as shown in the instructions. So if you thinking about buying one of these bike racks and fitting it to the back of anything but an SUV or Wagon, don't. Make sure that you look at all their photos promoting any of their rear / tow ball mounted racks. SUV & wagon's only. Would have been nice to have known this prior to spending $850 on something that turned out to be an expensive and disappointing purchase.

Thule Pack n Pedal – Had this bike pannier rack for sometime. Recently wanted to order a small part for it to try resolve the moving strut area and of recent was quoted AUD$40 for a pannier strut replacement. This is about 25% of the pannier cost. That itself, I won't know if it can even solve a problem. Overall I think this product is overly expensive if the… Read more

support is so bad. You can get Topeak, Tubus and generally any other brand pannier rack for a fraction of the price.

Replies from Customer service australia will also take a long time, I'd rather buy other brands. Never seen such poor quality Thule response. Internationally they seems fine.

Excellent Turnaround – I've had the roof mounted bike kit for a couple of years now and they have weathered well. Not a single complaint. However, due to human error I lost my spare locking keys so a quick email over the weekend, a quick response from Thule on Monday morning confirming said email and new keys arrived Tuesday morning (Wollongong NSW) How good is that - awesome job Thule - much appreciated

Bike carrier caused damage to my car – The unit was fitted correctly and failed. This caused damage to the unit, my bike and my car. Thule would not accept any liability. Will not buy this brand again, as customer service is very important to me.

Thule Raceway 991 rear mount rack – Most people buy either roof or tow ball mounted racks for carrying their bicycles. But what about these rear mounted racks? I was really skeptical at first. Worried that the mounting would damage the car panels or scratch the paint. But in the end, I bought this rack to mount onto the rear of our 2013 Mazda 2 hatch back to carry our two adult… Read more ·  1

sized pushbikes.

Do I regret the purchase? Not at all.

Shortly after we bought the rack, our little mazda 2 was rear ended by a texting idiot. Before the car was repaired, I decided to try and test the rack to see if I could damage the tailgate with the rack. I tightened it up really hard and grabbed the mounting arms and shook the car around on it's suspension and it did not bend or damage the tailgates panel edges at all.

Since then, the car has had the tailgate replaced and we have been happy using the rear rack for carrying our bicycles. It's very sturdy and we have had no problem with carrying our two bikes @ 100kmh on the freeway.

When we arrive at our destination, we can leave the rack locked to the tailgate and even lift the tailgate up with it fitted to access the luggage area. (tailgate won't stay up with the rack fitted)

Overall we are very happy with the rack and expect that it will continue to serve well on our next car.

Bad fitting instructions ruin an otherwise good product – These car roof bars come with wordless (diagrams-only) fitting instructions that are difficult to comprehend and, in the case of a Peugeot 306 hatchback, specify the wrong assembly settings. The result is roof bars that cannot be fitted to the car or, at best, can be fitted only with extreme difficulty and at risk of damaging both the racks and… Read more

the car body.

This caused me huge frustration and hours of wasted time.

This is a shame, because once fitted the bars work quite well. Their 75 kg load rating is higher than the 50 kg ratings of some other brands.

The aerobars for my previous station wagon worked very well. The difference was that those racks simply clamped on to the factory-fitted roof rails without requiring meticulous pre-assembly of specialised mounts.

After seventeen years of providing incorrect instructions, it's about time that Thule corrected them.

When you pays your money – Six years ago I went here to have Thule cycle racks mounted on my car. I think they are also called Roof Rack World, in Dickson Street, Artarmon. Wasn't cheap, but you don't go here if you want the cheaper stuff. The reason for posting the review is this. I noticed a bit of squeaking occasionally, so I phoned them up. They invited me to come along… Read more

at my leisure. They checked it out, tightened things up, oiled this and that, gave me some spare parts and charged me nothing. Said it was all part of the service. How good is that? Thanks guys. Premium customer service. Thule is not cheap, but worth it.

Exceptional Service! – I wanted to carry my new bikes on the roof of my car. I didn't know anything about roof racks and bike carriers. I phoned Thule Store Botany and received very friendly and helpful advise. I discussed the purchase with my wife, then made an order online. I ordered the products at 12.13pm on a Wednesday. To my surprise, the order was delivered at… Read more

Hopeless online retail – Ordered a rack as a Xmas present with heaps of time for delivery. Their email said it was sent. No it wasn't. Had to make other Xmas arrangements in the end. When I called to cancel I was told that they weren't actually sure if it had been sent or not so wait a few days. WTF??? Waited a few days and still no rack. They then agreed to refund but it… Read more

took a while for the money to show up (admittedly this was probably due to Xmas shutdown).

Seriously if this is the face of AUS online retail then we're in trouble. I can get stuff from the UK in a week - orders are spot on every time and without any hassle. How does it take 2 weeks to get a part just 300km from Sydney???

BTW my guess is that they don't actually have stock themselves and simply order it when you order it. Manager was very polite Online system is hopeless. No tracking of items.
