TomTom Multi-Sport

Basic functions – This is an older model smart watch where there is basic functionality that you can do using your smart phone. It has a long battery life and well built. Overall happy with my purchase.
Good fitness tracker – Good fitness tracker, screen easily readable in direct sunlight. Heart rate monitor is fairly accurate and battery life is excellent, get 8 hours of activity tracking or 7 days stand-by time on a single charge. Only gripe is GPS tracking sometimes takes a few minutes to pick up a signal noticed it happens only when a lot of cloud cover is present. Overall for the price I paid $83 it has been great! Good running watch – Bought this watch 2 years ago. It is a good running watch to track distance, speed and heart rate. The GPS signal is OK, but it takes a little while to connect before starting. N problems once it's connected though. I did notice the heart rate monitor being a little erratic in the beginning, but seems a lot better now. Show details
Live this watch – Being able to wear it in the piil and swim with it tracking my progress. Love having a lap counter on my wrist and easy upload to my ohine. This is a great taacker that i can use for all of my different sports. Highly recommend this watch for a multi sportsman Show details
Good GPS tracking and heart rate monitor but poor battery – I needed to monitor heart rate so I don't overdo the exercise. Initially great at showing what the rate was and where I had been. The software that records my exercise is acceptable but they keep changing it. I don't mind change as long as it is improvement. Some functionality has gone backwards. - How many minutes spent in each zone? … Read more
Initially this was shown but now there is only % of time in each zone. The mapping is good and statistics comprehensive.
As I got fitter I would walk and cycle longer. I like both activities but with heart rate monitor recording I initially only got 5 hours before a full battery went flat. Yesterday I only got 2 hour 34 min. from the 3 year old device. There has been one improvement in software- I used to have to reset date and time after recharging from flat. Now this detail is picked up automatically.
I did buy a cadence monitor for cycling but this flattened the battery even quicker so I abandoned it
Not so good! – Bought this cause there was a cash back promotion going on and because they had a in-built cardio HR monitor. Did not really use Tom Tom previously but figured it wouldn't hurt. However, it is just not as intuitive and user friendly as my fitbit. The watch is also a bit too big a fit for my hand. Show details
Ok watch - GPS reliable, HRM not; intuiative to use – Purchased this second hand and I guess for the price (a third of retail) its ok, but I would be most disappointed if I purchased it at full retail. The watch is general is fairly intuitive to use and the way it links with your on-line activity tracker is pretty good. So I have been happy with the functionality and the battery life is pretty good… Read more
(charges via USB) The GPS is quick to engage and quite accurate. HOWEVER - the in-built HRM is notoriously unrealible, and sometimes simply will not pick up your pulse. It can often jump around too at rest (70, 68, 72, 134, 76, 70, 71, 72, 124, 65 etc.). I've tried moving the watch around on my wrist to different positions, but there is no sweet spot, and I'm fairly 'thin wristed' so there's no issue with fat/fluid dampening the pulse as such. I have not tried an external HRM admittedly, but I am not a serious enough runner to justify that expense and hassle.
The three-pronged strap holder is a bit clunky and annoying also, however once 'engaged' it is fine, and I barely notice the watch when I'm running so it does contour to my wrist well, despite it being a pretty bulky unit.
So in summary....
PROs:
- Intuitive to use
- GPS quick to engage and accurate
- Good on-line activity tracker interface
- Good battery/charge life
CONs:
- HRM notoriously unreliable.
- Clunky strap
Recommended? Yes, but only as a cheap second-hand option for someone who wants to track time/distance etc. If you are a serious sportsperson and have a budget of ~$300 give it a wide berth and go for a topline Garmin or top model Fitbit.
Extremely Disappointed – Recently purchased the new Multi Sport watch with in-built cardio heart rate monitor. Have traditionally used Garmin but don't really like the chest strap heart rate monitor, so saw this as the new revolution. Unfortunately, despite all the claims, the in-built monitor doesn't work properly. The bpm's are very unreliable and don't really work… Read more
when exercising. This is not a cheap product so would suggest avoiding it until they improve the product.
