The devices that managed to connect, worked well. However, there are numerous irritations. The only device that managed to connect were the TV and the security camera. Mobile phones, and computers would never connect. It resets the system time every time it gets rebooted, you have to login and update the system time after every reboot. Positive… Read more
points: It looks good, boots up quickly, never had issues with uptime or throughput. Negative points: Devices would not connect to it, time resets. I am using the device as an access point, so the system time might behave differently if it used as the modem
Just signed up with Southern Phone and received this modem free with the deal. I'm not using it for my connection because the previous free modem I got from Exetel being a ZTE H268A works absolutely fine with SPC and is fully configured with all the port settings etc. I need, so swapping to the VX230v would just create unnecessary work for me… Read more
which I'm not willing to take on for no pressing reason. That said, I've opened the box and had a look at it. It's a much better constructed unit than the ZTE which by comparison feels like a flimsy plastic box of fresh air and not much else. The VX230v feels very solid, is well put together with clamshell seams that actually close up properly. It looks and feels like something that will be difficult to open without breaking the case. As for performance I have no idea, but I would take the word of others in here who are actually using it. As an ISP-exclusive provided product, you will get no support at all from TP-Link. TP-Link are just the manufacturer. They do not sell the modem to retail customers. You can only get one through an ISP that you sign up to, thus the only support for it comes from that ISP who gave or sold it to you. The ISP is not interested in you being able to configure it for yourself which is why they package it with no user manual. The ISP wants to keep you forever attached to them and not using 'their' modem to connect with their competition - ie. exactly what I'm doing now by connecting to SPC with a modem provided for free by Exetel. The ISPs really hate customers doing this!
Firmware updates are available from TP-Link if you really look hard enough - they're not easy to find at all. A user manual is available for it but not from TP-Link or your ISP. You will have to search online manual database websites to find one, or use the one I've provided here.
The idea of the router is good, cheap wifi6, gigabit ethernet ports, all the works. However this router seems to have some issues with reliability. When we first setup this router, within the time it took for me to close the lid of my laptop, and stand up from my chair, it had frozen and rebooted. This router kept randomly rebooting and freezing every single day. I do not recommend this router, and I am getting a refund on mine.
Bad experience over all – Obviously a low end price driven product for NBN suppliers. WiFi issues which take some sorting that will not last, so your forever resetting the router. TP-Link refer you back to the NBN supplier who supplied the router to you, and they dont seem to have answers either. Too cap it all of: Not satisfied at all, router was supplied by my service… Read more
provider Not a ISP fault, but the WiFi is terrible, requiring many resets and reconfigs Very easy to setup as is most of TP-Links gear
Frustration with Poor Communication – My interactions with TP-Link's customer support have been incredibly frustrating. Despite multiple emails and promises of callbacks, I've received no resolution to my issue. They seem overly fixated on details like my ISP and where I bought the product, even though the warranty should cover it. This experience has left me disappointed and unable… Read more
to recommend their products. It's a shame, given their three-year warranty, but the lack of support has been a letdown.
Disjointed Support: TP-Link's Contradictory Guidance Leaves Users in the Dark – It seems there's a bit of confusion regarding the support channels for TP-Link products, particularly the VX230v modem router. TP-Link's initial communication emphasized reaching out to their technical support team for assistance with their products. However, in this specific case, they now state that since the VX230v is an ISP-specialized model,… Read more
one must contact their ISP for any technical support regarding issues with the modem router regarding setting up of IPV6. Then why do TP-Link provide a FAQ on how to do this?
How to set up an IPv6 Internet connection on the TP-Link Wi-Fi Routers
It's understandable how this change in guidance could be frustrating or confusing for users, especially if they were initially directed to TP-Link's technical support team for assistance. Clarity and consistency in support channels and guidance are crucial for a positive customer experience.
Disappointing Experience with TP-Link VX230v Modem Router – Review: I recently purchased the TP-Link VX230v modem router with high hopes of improving my home network. However, my experience with this product has been nothing short of frustrating.Firstly, the setup process was far from smooth. Despite following the instructions meticulously, I encountered numerous connectivity issues right from the start.… Read more
It seemed that the router struggled to maintain a stable connection, resulting in frequent dropouts and slow speeds. Moreover, the advertised features, such as IPV6 functionality, turned out to be a headache rather than a convenience. When attempting to configure IPV6, I was met with vague instructions and conflicting information from TP-Link's support channels. It became apparent that the router's specialized nature meant that crucial configuration details were determined by the ISP, leaving me with limited control over my own network settings. To make matters worse, the performance of the VX230v did not live up to its price tag. Despite its claims of high-speed connectivity, I consistently experienced lag and buffering, even with basic internet usage.Overall, my experience with the TP-Link VX230v modem router has been deeply disappointing. From unreliable connectivity to confusing setup instructions and underwhelming performance, this product has failed to meet my expectations. I would not recommend it to anyone seeking a reliable and user-friendly networking solution
Disappointing Support Experience with TP-Link – I'm dissatisfied with TP-Link because they provided contradictory information regarding technical support for their product. Despite their statement advising customers to contact TP-Link directly for specific product issues, when I reached out for assistance, they directed me back to my ISP. This lack of consistency and support has left me disappointed and unable to recommend their products based on my experience.

Abysmal Customer Support – The modem router is OK but the support is atrocious. Can't answer simple questions. 1300 875 465 I wanted to know if I can use the IPV6 and IPV4 connection simultaneously but the operator had extreme difficulty providing an answer and it sounded like they were running a webcam in the background with dinging sounds and female voices talking in a… Read more
foreign language. 25 mins and I still haven't received a clear answer to my question. There were plenty of irrelevant questions they wanted answered like "who is my ISP" and "Where did I buy the modem from?"

TP-Link VX230v - Stay away from this terrible router! – Beware! Do not buy this router! Absolutely the worst modem/router I've ever had the displeasure of trying to use. I purchased this modem/router through my new ISP. When I received it I set it up as per instructions and found it worked well with my Desktop PC plugged into the LAN port on the modem/router via Ethernet Cable, but it's Wi-Fi… Read more
capabilities were non-existent. All of my devices showed that they were connected to the internet via Wi-Fi but nothing would load - Emails, Facebook, Instagram, Web Pages, even the ISPs own Speed Test - none would load, or it took 5 to 10 minutes to load. When I eventually did load the speed test, it took over 5 minutes to complete the speed test. Ultimately it showed that the speed was within the parameters! I made numerous phone calls to the ISPs tech support over a number of days, going through the same troubleshooting methods each time to no avail. The first support tech I spoke with declared that the modem/router they had sent me was faulty so he sent me out a replacement (same make & model). However, I experienced the exact same issues with the replacement modem/router as I had with the first one. Another few calls to tech support with the most recent call ending with the tech support person blaming my NBN, declaring that there was nothing wrong with my modem/router! So, I went out and purchased a new, different, router, plugged it in and "Voila" it works perfectly - fabulous Wi-Fi with great speeds! I have since sent an email to my ISP requesting a refund for the purchase price of the faulty modem / router they sold to me.

Cheap, but you get what pay for – Fairly cheap for a wifi 6 router modem. Takes ages to connect to the internet ... way slower than my 5 year old Technicolor modem. Every time it is disconnected from power it requires a HARD FACTORY RESET (including having to set it up from scratch) to connect !!! ... takes about 10 minutes. Very annoying. When it works, its ok. Quite stable. I… Read more
would spend a little bit more and buy a proper product.
Update 3.3.2023: Reduced my review to 1 star. Spoke with TP-Link. They tried to blame it on the ISP or suggest changing to a different wall power point (something I tried). Basically not much help. The fact is that the modem works fine after a Hard Factory Reset... so a new installation is required after every time (!!!) I disconnect it from power, or turn it off and on. I'm afraid I'll have to switch to a different modem-router brand. Very disappointed with my waste of time and money.
