Ultimate Off-Road Campers

Excellent Lightweight Camper – We purchased our Ultimate Xterran in September 2017 from Ultimate Campers in Moruya NSW direct from the factory. The purchasing procedure was well thought out with lunch and a tour around the factory to see how they are constructed. Note the company has new owners but the product is essentially the same. After we took delivery it was recommended we stay overnight in the Moruya caravan park to familiarise our selves with the camper and sort out any problems should they occur, wise advice it turned out as we did encounter a few minor problems, usb sockets not working, 12 V socket missing and broken stud on canvas. All these were rectified the next morning at the factory, minor problems that could have being avoided with a thorough pre delivery inspection.
We chose the Ultimate as its quick set up, comfortable interior, good build quality, light weight (a consideration a we where towing with our 2015 Subaru Outback) useful canvas options such as the large 4x2 meter annex which we purchased at the time and then later the under bed room which expands the campers small folded 4X2 meter footprint out to 20 square meters of weatherproof living area. This ads about 40 minutes to the 10 minute if that, set up time for the basic set up.
The camper towed perfectly behind the Subaru due to the light weight, now towed with our Isuzu, ( 840 kgTare). Obviously the weight increased as we added accessorises, annex and other items to the voluminous 140 litre storage in the nose cone and other stuff to the generous storage inside the camper.
The camper is fitted with the Red arc BMS 1230 to keep an eye on the state of the two 105 ah AGM batteries, when used in conjunction with our 400 watts of solar panels, we have not had to resort to the use of mains power as yet to keep the batteries charged (I tend not to let them discharge below 70%) The quality of the cabling is excellent, I've seen some pictures of dodgy cabling on other campers, I guess you get what you pay for.
The quality of the canvas is excellent, although we did encounter some severe shrinkage to the main canvas after an extended period of dampness (after drying out we couldn't close the zip on the front door) plus severe shrinkage in the easy awning. We notified Ultimate Campers and they immediately dispatched another canvas cover to be fitted by Barossa Campers, SA's Ultimate rep at the time. 10/10 for customer service, had a couple of other minor problems that were dealt with promptly by Ultimate and Barossa Campers.
The only thing we have changed on the camper are the foam mattresses which we have swapped for a couple of Black Wolf self inflating mattresses,100% more comfortable and less bulky.
I cant vouch for the extreme off road performance of the camper although one look at the undercarriage and you know you will not have any problems, if you doubt it take a look at Top Of Down Under, series 7&8 were Penny Wells gives her Ultimate Xterran a work out through the Kimberly region.
I cannot recommend this camper highly enough, it is always a pleasure to set up no dramas, although the bed must be set up every time, really comfortable to sleep in especially in warmer weather with its copious openings in the canvas top. The only negative I can think of in the camper is the flapping around in the wind of the double layered canvas roof which tends to keep me awake and the movement of the camper in the stronger breezes, I guess this is just the nature of the elevated design. Great when its flowing mud down below.
Again, I cannot comment on the service of Ultimate Campers regarding the new owners as our purchase was made with the original owners whom I cannot fault as they acted promptly to rectify any problems, hopefully the new owners continue with good customer service as the camper is an outstanding solid design of witch I would not hesitate to buy another.
