Excellent Phone – I purchased this phone from E Bay 17 month ago.for under $300.00 .It has similar spec's as a Samsung 7 and an Apple 7 .works on both 3-4 g , cameras are great, Battery life fine and it feels good in the hand. usb 3c plug so transfer speed is fast The only problem i have found is trying to get accessory here in Oz, ie. case. and replacement charging plug, USB 3 to USB 3c But are obtainable on line. Great phone for the price. Show details
My Smartphone from China – You have to consider the fact that i only had to pay around $220 australian for this beautiful 5 and half inch screen phone. Bought it online from GearBest China. It works perfectly on my optus line in Australia. I give it 5 star because i believe it is all i need and does all the things needed. I will buy my next Umi in a year or 2. I love it and have shown others. Show details
First UMI flagship – Its a great device. Pros: Camera, battery, aluminium body, bright display, 8 cores and 4gb of ram Cons: No audio certification, gps random failures The build of the phone consists of a two part glass and metal construction. The rear has two plastic faux metal bands which cover what I presume are the connectivity antennae. The camera is… Read more
rear center, just above the dual tone flash and fingerprint scanner. The front is very minimalistic, with only the earpiece and front camera being immediately present.
Performance on the UMi Super is one of the phone’s strong suits. Throughout my day to day usage, which includes plenty of redditing, watching YouTube, chatting on hangouts, and light gaming, the phone hardly ever stalled. The 4GB of RAM compliments the Super’s performance nicely. The only time the phone ever got warm was when I was setting it up for the first time, installing all of my apps.
The Super is powered by a Mediatek Helio P10 chipset. A MT6755 with Eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked in at around 2.0 GHz
The Mediatek comes equipped with a Mali-T860 GPU. During the BaseMark X testing, it was very easy to tell that the Super would drop a frame or two every once in awhile. Looking at other device’s scores, it’s easy to see that the Super might not stack up among the rest.
While a solid and well thought-out device, some aspects of the phone felt heavily derived from other offerings on the market, and it brings most of the flaws you’d expect out of a phone in this price-range. When I read a few past reviews on the XDA site, I had noticed that there were a few phones that the Super took a fair bit of inspiration from.
Many users on Reddit have called out the UMi website for looking a bit “too good to be true”, starting that one should not trust the company to deliver a quality product. While I initially agreed with those sentiments, actually using the device changed my mind. If you head over to UMi’s community forums, you can see just how other users of this phone feel.
But overall, the UMi Super is a pretty sturdy Android device for the price. I mostly enjoy using it and the way it feels in the hand. The software is close to stock in functionality, and the phone itself is well made with a decent display (if your unit doesn’t have lightbleed) for its cheap price point. The only glaring issues that really bothered me with the phone have to be the connectivity issues and lack of cell service I faced. That aside, the feature that is the most attractive is the Super’s battery, which at times seems like it will just never die. If you can live with a budget device and need insane battery life, you should consider the phone — but first, you must make sure you can live with the downsides and consequences.
Beware the UMI advertising spin – I bought this phone for my daughter as a pre release on the specs and advertising by UMI. A few videos showed the phone being dropped from various heights and even being run over by a car with... Miraculously... No damage to the screen... The phone arrived and within 3 days it gently slipped out of my daughter's pocket falling about 60cm and… Read more
cracked the screen and digitizer in half so that you couldn't even use half the screen functionally. Fortunately the seller supplied a replacement phone. But even that with a screen protector cracked the lower bottom corner of the phone. She had no such issues with her old S3 phone.
My son also bought an UMI Super and had such bad GPS issues (a common fault if you do a quick web search) that he sold his phone after 6 weeks.
The phone is now almost half the price I paid 6 months ago.
There are plenty of better alternatives. My family will never buy another UMI that's for sure.
