I was provoked to submit this review because we stumbled across a review on a dog trainer website which I believe is very misleading. The big dog food companies are very good at marketing and will endeavour to convince you that their more expensive dog foods are the only way to go, and cheaper brands are bad for your dog. This is definitely not always the case. Uncle Albers dog food is a great product. It's available at many produce stores for around $50 for a 22kg bag (yes, 22kg ie 10% more than the competitors). We are retired vets and have owned dog kennels and my wife has bred purebred dogs for many years. We've tried dog foods that have proved inferior, and seen the change that a good nutritious food can make. One of our staff many years ago told us she'd tried Uncle Albers and that it was cheap but really good. We tried it, and have never looked back. It's an unusual extruded pellet shape which looks weird initially, but believe me the dogs don't notice! It's very palatable and my wife really likes the more formed bowel motions that it seems to produce. However protein and fat percentage are critical features and normally you pay more for higher content. The 28% protein and 14% fat content are exceptionally good for a budget priced dog food and rank it with many puppy foods. In fact we now wean our pups onto Uncle Albers. It's a huge advantage to be able to feed both adults and pups the same food, not needing to stock 2 types of food. And it means that the pups can continue on the same diet with their new owners, rather than having to switch from a puppy food to an adult food at a later time. I believe that Uncle Albers is a premium, but largely unrecognized, top value dog food.
