V.I.P. Petfoods Supreme Mince
Verified4 reviews
Wouldnt touch it with a barge pole – VIP Pet Foods Supreme Steak Mince for Dogs had the highest sulphur dioxide level at 1140mg/kg. Published research says a level of 1000mg/kg depletes thiamine levels in pets by 95 per cent. Clinical studies over the past two decades have proven that sulphur dioxide can destroy Vitamin B (thiamine) levels in food, which is essential to animal health. Scientists have warned that thiamine deficiency can cause neurological breakdown in cats and dogs.
Paws Fresh Roo Mince for dogs and cats - part of the VIP group - had a level of 870mg/kg, despite the brand's website claiming it "keeps sulphur dioxide at a minimum, at just 2mg/kg".
the best food to give your dog is either the one mixed by yourself or BARF, natural no preservatives.
Dangerous for my dogs health
Profit over Quality? – A short while ago I was pleased to see the success of VIP Dog Food Company in the BRW and was happy to have thought I'd contributed to such rapid growth. Unfortunately I have to agree with another review that quite recently the recipe has changed and with some awful side effects. My family and I own a total of 7 dogs between us and we all agree that this product has seriously dropped in quality and we will cease to purchase until the product returns to original recipe (i.e. it used to be real meat). It is a shame as it was a convenient purchase from the Supermarket but it is no longer a VIP product!
Mushy meat substance which smells bad upon opening. Left in fridge (well within use by date) and it turned black.....Dogs have had serious diarrhoea for days after eating product afer trying several batches.
What has gone wrong with this product – I started buying this about six months ago and up until now have been happy with it. However the last 2 packets I bought have been very disappointing. The use by date was 29 May so perhaps it may have been running out of time. The product smelt very strongly - not as though it was rotting - but of chemicals, probably preservatives. In addition the outer edges are turning dark green or black.
I gave it to the dog and it did not seem to deter him nor did he suffer any ill effects, but it is unpleasant to look at and to smell, permeating the refrigerator. I would take the unopened pack back except that I have disposed of the docket. Good at the beginning
We have used this mince for 3yrs and the last 4packets have been ROTTEN! VIP have gone down hill. I have now ceased using all of their products and have changed to another brand.
Quality has gone to the dogs! – I have bought this fresh meat product for some time and was happy to be providing some quality dog food rather than over-processed cereal, but recently it seems to be just sloppy mush rather than the chunky mince it used to be. Am I too cynical to think I'm now buying some very expensive water? I have changed to another product. Fresh meat Expensive, water-laden slop.
Dont buy VIP. I have found pieces of wood in 3 VIP dog rolls in the last month. Support your local butcher and get pet mince from them or Lennards poultry for about $1.50 a kilo. At least it is fresh.

I'm not a VIP representative, but I have looked into sulfur dioxide and it appears that VIP add additional thiamine to offset the thiamine that has been eroded in foods.
Since the whole media hype about sulfur dioxide, VIP have responded as per the below on the website.

Without preservatives, you run the risk that your dog's health is affected by bacteria. Agreed that better dog food is one mixed yourself (although most do not have time to source and prepare something nutritious enough for a dog) and BARF is also an excellent product. Regardless of this, I think VIP maybe moving to preservative free from what I understand in any case as well.
