Demo model lasted 12 years! – We bought this demo model dryer in 2008 cheap and we have barely had an issue. Over the last year (mid-2019 to mid 2020) the On-Off button became a little sticky and a bit of tape solved that issue. the last few weeks the clothes havent been fully drying and need a second run. I think the sensor has slowly gone faulty. the dryer has worked well… Read more
for all types of clothing, We looked after it well and kept the lint filter clean. For a cheap model dryer it has worked well. Rather than get it repaired we will likely send it to retirement opt for a more energy efficient model.
add in an edit for 2024, this thing is still going well.
Great Dryer - Lasted 10 years – This dryer started blowing smoke recently. When taking it apart everything looked pristine apart from a burnt smell which is I suspect is the motor. A motor on eBay is $155 and a new dryer is about $500. Considering I did get 10 years out of it, I'm considering just replacing it. If I was to buy a new motor doesn't anyone know what other components I should replace at this point in its life. Would rather do it all at once. Show details
Great for occasional use. Would be better it vented externally – Used about once a week. Works very well. It would be better if it was vented outside as at the moment you need to open room windows when its in use to avoid a damp smell. The Crease Free setting works very well. After almost 9 years, recently the drum stopped moving. We opened it up and found the drum drive belt had worn out. Bought the same model belt off ebay for $12 and it was a simple replacement and fix. Show details

Great - except it cuts shirt collars tips !! ruining shirts – I have had my dryer for 5 years and it is overall very good; the only thing is that there must be a sharp edge somewhere in the bowl that cuts the edge of shirt collars either completely off or sliced through, and towel corners. My husband thinks there is a catching pressure area that allows this to happen. This has happened throughout the life… Read more
of the machine. I now don't dry shirts in it, but it recently cut the collar tip of my daughter's uniform. Really upsetting. Otherwise a good machine.
Not the best dryer considering usage – Purchased the LD605EB model dryer a few years ago (approximately 5 years). Worked well until now. Used predominantly in winter months only. Checked the door and switches, lint filter and cleared vent, all seems ok, but still has no power, completely dead. Is it worth fixing or simply buy another one?
Part melted - don't turn your dryer on and go out warning – My Westinghouse LD505E dryer caused my smoke alarm to go off (there was real smoke) when part of it melted! All of the lights were still on and the dryer had eventually stopped but not before I had to ring the fire brigade to come and investigate the source of the acrid smoke. Up until that point I loved the dryer but am now considering an alternative brand to replace it.

Brilliant Dryer – We bought this dryer around 2008 from memory. It stopped around 2018, and because this dryer was so good, I decided to fix it myself. I was told that it was probably the capacitor. Simple job to replace the capacitor which cost $40. Worked perfectly until Sept. 2022 and then last week the belt failed. I bought a new belt on EBay for $18 and after… Read more
watching a YouTube video changed it over myself and it’s running great again. The appliance (once cleaned) looks like new again. I wonder how many people just throw them out when they are quite simple to repair for an average handyman … took less than two hours in total to get the belt changed over and clean up the machine. So happy with this appliance, and expect another 10 years from it …
An absolute trooper – Absolutely no complaints with this dryer. It is the floor demo from a store that was closing down approximately 12 or more years ago and was heavily discounted. It has coped with a long car drive on its side to get it home, 4 house moves (two interstate), and spent a year with an underwire stuck in it which made the most disturbing sounds,… Read more
dries pretty much every day of the year, and yet, it is still going strong. It has no problem with delicates, it has no problem with towels and (small) blankets, and has no problem with absolutely anything in between.
The only problem it now has is a small break in the plastic around where the door fits into the body of the machine - and I did that by tugging too hard at a hoodie's metal drawstring end that had got caught there. A second's extra care, and it would still be as perfect as the day I bought it.
My one regret with it is that I wish I had got a larger version so I could dry the big blankets and doonas, but that is not the fault of the appliance.
This has been, hands down, the most reliable appliance I have ever owned.
Best electrical item I have ever bought – 15 years it has been going. Used every other day for family of 5. Usaully use 60 mins on normal dry. No mechanical issues ever. Will definately buy westinghouse dryer again. Show details
Perfect – I got this dryer second hand from someone who hardly used it. I must say it's perfect and dries cloths perfectly compared to my 2 Electrolux dryers i've had in the past. It is sad they stopped making them. I'm just hoping parts will still be available for this model. Show details
Disappointed to hear this is discontinued – This has been a wonderful clothes dryer! Quiet and dependable, we use it throughout winter. Never had any problems with shrinkage, fading or general wear and tear of clothes. Love the crease free option and reversing mechanism which prevents clothes becoming entangled. Hope it keeps going for many more years as I would be unsure what to replace it with! Show details
Great Dryer – Very quiet, efficient and drys really well. My favourite setting is the crease free setting, I through in everyone's shirts for school and work and presto, no need for ironing :-). We have had this dryer for the past 9 years and it has served our family well, it has not skipped a beat and we use this every winter. Its a shame that it is… Read more
discontinued as it is a great dryer and I would recommend it to others, I don't know what we would do as a replacement if this one goes but I am not looking to replace until it dies.
Still going strong after 8 years – This dryer has been great, the sensor works well if set to the extra dry setting, and clothes dry fast. It does tend to shrink and fade more delicate items of clothing but sheets, towels, blankets etc are dried well in this machine. It actually fell off the wall a few years ago (was incorrectly mounted) and despite being dented it still works… Read more
without problem. I'm now looking to upgrade to a heat pump dryer for more delicate and economical drying but will still keep this one for drying bedding loads faster etc.

Absolutely love this dryer! – I bought my Westinghouse 5kg dryer in 2008 and I have literally used it every day since then. I have had no issues what so ever with it, I would highly recommend it if it wasn't discontinued. I'm only searching dryer reviews today because as much as I don't want to buy a new dryer I need to buy a wall mountable one for my new house. This dryer did… Read more · 1
come with a wall mountable kit which was super handy. My sister bought the same dryer a year before I did and she mounted hers with no issues. The button sticker replacement for when its wall mounted is clever. However over the years of moving house multiple times I have lost the wall mounting attachments and replacement button sticker. I'm absolutely devastated. I really would prefer to keep my Westinghouse dryer :(
Dead – Mine just died too :-( Has been a good dryer, not worth fixing, would probably be too expensive, think it burnt out, had a funny smell coming from it. Now to buy another always a hard decision. This has been deleted not sure how long we have had it, does not feel like that many years but probably longer than we think.
Average Quality Dryer – We bought our Westinghouse LD605EB dryer in May 2007, and its has died in last few weeks (September 2015) so it has lasted a bit over 8 years. This is a bit less than I was expecting - as we wouldn't use it more than twice per week on average (probably less) as we use the clothes line when we can. It now has major issues and is not worth… Read more
repairing.
We have had problems with the door and getting the dryer to start for the past 3 years.
The sensor (to switch off when the clothes were dry) was not the best. On "normal dry" setting, clothes usually came out a bit damp and we had to restart the dryer.
Moved it up to the next dryer setting and it went on too long.
Model is now discontinued - so just posting this for information on Westinghouse products generally.
Stood the test of time – We bought the LD605E 6.0kg sensor dry almost 15 years ago and it's still going strong. A reliable stalwart which is used most days. Just need to remember to clean out the lint filter regularly, which has only needed to be replaced once during the time we've had it. No mechanical problems.
Fantastic dryer! – I adore this dryer! It's easy to use. We use it probably every second day for the past 8 years and have never had a problem with it. Couldn't recommend it more highly. I put it on Extra Dry for towels and sheets, and Normal Dry for clothes. Westinghouse is brilliant!
Doesn't dry completely – Have had this dryer for a few years based on scoring well in a Choice review. Have been disappointed from the start with the drying performance. The dryer constantly leaves whatever is in it damp, irrespective of the drying cycle chosen. Not sure if it has to do with outside air temp affecting the sensors ( we live in southern Tasmania, so it's… Read more
cold). Frustration that the "extra dry" cycle is the last to select.
Lint filter dumps lint into drum and onto floor, needs 6 button presses to get to the extra dry option, bad drying performance

Best dryer I have ever owned – This is by far the best dryer I have ever owned. It does not cook my clothes like regular dryers. The sensor can be set to normal dry (ready to be ironed) or really dry (for towels and blankets). I put my clothes in and don't come back till the machine chimes at me to alert me that t's finished. My queen sized donna fits in as does my woolen… Read more
underlay (has a cool dry setting for wool). My electricity man has wired it to appliance off peak tariff, so it costs me almost nothing to run it. Would not consider anything else. No broken parts or heating issues and I store it in a cupboard! I clean my front and rear vents every 5 months or so. Cheap to run, easy to use
Nearly 8 years and going strong – We purchased this dryer back in 2006. A capacitor burned out in 2010 that cost $90 to replace. We don't dry routinely but this machine has proved to be reliable and effective. If you have condensation open a window, if your cloths are not dry within a reasonable time don't overstuff the machine, this also goes for creased clothing. I have found… Read more · 2
that leaving one quarter of the machine empty produces the best and fastest drying. Still going strong after 8 years. Longevity, good results. Expensive to run like all dryers.
Worst dryer I've owned – I've had 3 or 4 dryers over the years and this is without doubt the worst I've owned. I've owned for about 3 years and it has had very little use as I prefer to save electricity and use other means however there are times in the depth of winter where my dryer will be used constantly for about 6-8 weeks. This winter, being it's 3rd, I noticed that… Read more
it didn't seem to warm up as much as in the past. I would run it through the "extra dry" cycle twice and there would still be damp clothes in it. Now the on/off switch has died.
This dryer has never done a very good job. Right from the start I've had to often run the clothes through a 2nd cycle. I'm over it. Never buying this brand again. Nothing good to say about it. Nothing Never dried very well right from the start. Had a very short lifespan. Rubbish!

Love my dryer - only one floor with design – Had our dryer for a few years now. Second in 18 years. On off button went and we replaced.... After quite a great deal of use. Shutting the door is the only floor and that's now the part inside I'm looking for. I hope they sell it. Otherwise screwed. I do love my dryer though. Condensate and other - adjust the room appropriately :-) Ease of use.… Read more
Dries appropriate to setting. Closing the door. Major down side though just now need to fix - hopefully.
Do not buy westinghouse – I brought this dryer about 2 years ago it overheats , the cord gets hot sometimes it goes for longer than its suppoes to. Personaly think its a fire hazed. I have 3 products in my house that are westinghouse and all 3 of them have issues. The stove timer doesnt work on the gas stove , The fridge leaks water. I would go for another brand in future… Read more
like LG or Fisher and Pakal or wirlpool anything but westinghouse! It dryes clothes even if alittle too well Overheats , cord gets hot, timer doesnt turn off when its suppoes to!

Hate it! – I absolutely hate this dryer and wish we had never bought it, it is definitely the worse dryer I have ever had! Everything that goes in it comes out so terribly creased that you spend hours ironing the creases out and that's when you use the so called 'crease free' option! All the settings on do the same thing and you can have stuff spinning… Read more
around in their for hours on end and they still come out damp. Don't even think about putting your bed sheets in there, as you will spend forever and a day ironing all the creases out. I highly recommend you avoid this thing like the plague and don't waste your money on it!
Everything. Dry cycle is very long, everything is horrifically creased when it comes out
Love this dryer – This is the best dryer I have ever owned and I've owned several. Dries evenly, quietly and the crease free feature works brilliantly. Have owned mine for almost three years and dried at least four loads a week. Reliable, easy to use, quiet and dries quickly.
Just died after 3 years – Doesn't dry the clothes well, have to always extend the time when it says it has finished ... so much for the autosensing. It's now not working, and by the looks at the cost to repair it, I might as well buy a new dryer. It produces heaps of condensation. And the door latch is cheap and nasty, feels like it's going to break every time I use it.… Read more
Totally do not recommend this dryer. It was a 6kg dryer, not many of them around, but it doesn't really handle the load well. Its just died after 3 years

Rubbish – Drys clothes but fills our rooms with condensation to the point were we have dripping down the walls. The salesman said it would never do this due to smart features!! lol, smart at wetting everything else around it. Apparently theres a hose that attaches to the machine at the rear, but it also blows way to much from the front, besides noone told… Read more

Disgusted – Used infrequently motor and capacitor burnt out cost to repair approx $300 price for a new one $329 What the..... Will I purchase another definitely not. Thats how they are made these days!! And we just accept. I wouldn't recommend to any one to pay so much money for a "good dryer" only to have it break down and cost a fortune to repair. Door difficult to close.
Obviously I have nothing good to report.
expensive didn't last the distance
Would not consider a Westinghouse product again! – We purchased our second Westinghouse after seeking advice from salesman. This one was worst than the previous one. Has broken down - circuit board issue. We do not flog the dryer used for emergency, rainy weather etc. Clothes did not dry completely, took over an hour to dry the simplest items. When using I sort items to ensure even drying - don't… Read more
need to bother it just doesn't dry evenly anyway! If you want to throw away your money or end up using more electricity this is the dryer for you. My advice - Avoid like the plague.........
Does not dry, takes forever, uses alot of power, lasted 2 years.
rubbish quality – I paid about $500 for this machine 3 years ago and it just broken down with a belt problem. Not happy as i expected more poorly made and overpriced
Terrible – Another Electrolux product which has broken 2 months outside of warranty. I wouldnt buy again. I didnt realise that Westinghouse came under the Electrolux brand. I thought I was buying a quality product, but sadly that was not the case. If you are not a fan of Electrolux dont buy Westinghouse. Dried quite well Died 2 months out of warranty
Excellent – Great design, reliable and cheap. Bought for $485 when on sale. Don't overload it as like any other dryer it will take ages and the heavy stuff will still be damp. Reliable, largish size, auto dry sensor function ability to get the level of dryness you want correctly Nothing about this dryer but wish someone would release a 10kg gas dryer with an auto setting to match my 10kg whirlpool front loader
Bad – Bought this specifically for the auto sensing feature but not able to rely on it. Having to turn machine on twice per load which is costing extra in electricity. May as well have bought a cheaper dryer and set the timer manually. Large enough for most loads. Good price level for auto sensing 6kg dryer. Auto sensing very unreliable. Even set to extra dry, most loads I have to put on again for an extra half hour to ensure they are fully dried.
Best way to hang my dryer – My Westinghouse LD505E dryer has been making some strange noise just want to know if I can hang it upside down
