I so wanted to like this machine. Spent half a day looking for a suitable replacement for my 25 year old top loader Fisher & Paykel 8.5 kg Smart Drive. Only bought the Westinghouse two days ago and already disappointed. Wish I could return it. So many options on the old Fisher & Paykel I could change just by pressing a button....didn't matter… Read more
whether it was halfway through a wash and I decided to change wash time, water level, spin time, spin speed and it was done! The quickest wash I can do on the Westinghouse is the 20 min wash. Can only use the low water level, which means don't put too many items in. Used the 45 min cycle this morning and can only use the medium water level...wanted to use the full (High) level as was washing two couch covers. There is the 60 min wash which allows full water level.....I like to get washing done in time that suits me. I have never waited for an hour for washing to finish. If I washed anything by hand and wanted to give it a spin at the end.....no problem with Fisher & Paykel....just go to spin and I could stop the spin cycle anytime to take out what was in there without upsetting the thought process of the machine If you want to use the spin and rinse option by itself on the Westinghouse its 35 min. You cannot change anything in the cycles once its starts chosen wash cycle. So my problem is the features and controls....too computerised, and not having any control to change anything once cycle starts I wish someone would start making something that matches the older machines in regards to the controls. I realise all the new washing machines must be the same...surely there is one out there with more manual controls even if machine is automatic. Also read later in the reviews about lint filter not working....the couch covers I washed this morning always left a lot of lint in the F&P lint collector. Absolutely none in the Westinghouse lint filter. A long Review but had I known how disappointed I would be I would have spent more time researching and hoping to find one a bit more to my liking.
SUMMARY Washing machine makes the clothes dirty and potentially damages items. Customer/technical service is a disgrace and has damaged customer relations too. Many machine 'washed' items need to be hand washed to remove any dirt or lint after every given 'washing' cycle. PRODUCT REVIEW We have been using Westinghouse Washing Machines and… Read more
Fridges for years, and were originally very happy with their products.
From the first weeks onwards, we suspected something was amiss with our *new* washing machine. The fault has persisted unabated over many months and has gotten progressively worse. Customer service added insult to injury by trying to put the blame on one of their loyal customers.
Specifically,
1) the mesh lint filter has not been collecting lint and remains empty despite multiple washes per week for many months now.
2) the lint accumulated during each and every washing cycle is simply dispersed or redistributed back into the ‘wash’, resulting in dirty and/or damaged clothes.
3) As anyone who washes clothes knows, the production of lint is a normal part of a cycle and washing machines are specifically designed to filter and/or collect the lint accordingly.
4) Their irritable technician - a middle aged man who has obviously never done a load in his life - tried to convince me that lint was an abnormal or aberrant part of a cycle, and that we were obviously doing something wrong for lint to be produced and/or redistributed back into the wash in the first place.
5) I had to repeatedly explain to him that lint filters are *specifically designed* to filter lint, and that it is customary to empty a mesh filter periodically. The fact that my lint filter has *never* been emptied (despite multiple washing cycles per week producing lint over a six month period) is an indication that there is something amiss with the washing machine's filtering process.
6) I've (retrospectively) discovered that another product review appears to have a variant of the same problem and (more alarmingly) the Good Guys salesman who recommended the machine to me had heard similar stories from other customers. So why did he recommend it to me?
https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/westinghouse-wwt1084c7wa
6) I indicated to the 'technician' that my daughter had recently purchased the same washing machine, and that the filter was doing what was required of it. He still wanted to insist that there was nothing wrong with the washing machine and that we were the problem.
7) His diagnostic consisted of looking at the digital error display/memory and doing a 5 minute rinse cycle without anything in the washing machine.
8) If other people have reported similar issues, I'm sceptical that this was the first time he (or Westinghouse) have encountered my issue - and suspect that putting the blame on the customer had become their default setting.
Particularly exasperating is that many 'washed' items need to be hand washed to remove the accumulation and/or dispersion of lint amongst supposedly ‘clean’ clothes. This manual re-clean requires a lot of needless time, effort and cursing.
Given the fact that no digital error messages appear (despite an obvious and recurring fault with each washing cycle), a ‘repair’ is not possible. The washing machine simply appears to be faulty and fails to do what it is required of it.
I've been advocating for a replacement (from Good Guys and Westinghouse) to little avail. They keep pushing the buck back onto each other, and the poor customer is left caught defenceless in the crossfire.
Westinghouse indicated that an attempt to repair the washing machine is likely to incur a (potentially) considerable expense. This is because the washing machine appears to be fully functional and there are no error messages determining the underlying issue (despite the fact that the washing machine remains under warranty and is clearly faulty).
They could not guarantee that the technician would fix the fault either, intimating that we might be stuck with a faulty washing machine regardless.
I was particularly appalled by the technician's manner, who seemed more intent on arguing with me than fixing my problem or taking our concerns seriously (let alone acknowledging that there might be a problem in the first place).
Equally bizarre: how can a washing machine technician not know (or pretend not to know) what a lint filter does, or that lint is a normal part of a washing cycle?
He insisted that the issue might be the length of the cycle itself (despite the fact that we vary the length according to need) and that wash cycle variations are supposed to be a design feature (and not a bug infecting each and every washing).
My whole experience is clearly unacceptable, and should concern Westinghouse more than the customer.
Worst machine I have ever had , lint filter does not work at all the clothes end up with so much lint and what looks like powder residue when I don’t use powder , and it clearly does not work because I never have to clean the lint filter because it doesn’t catch any lint .I don’t think it uses enough water to wash properly either Show details
Hopeless Machine. The program selection is preset i.e. if you pick a short cycle it defaults to cold, low water etc and you cannot change it. You cannot interrupt the cycle or change the water level etc. Absolutely mind numbing that someone thought that was a good idea. And it has a heavy glass embedded lid that you cannot see through - so whats the purpose............... Show details
Doesn’t have a long enough washing cycle. There’s more spinning than anything else. I have a Simpson 10kg washing machine at another residence and it is fabulous. Auto fill with every program. Auto fill on this Westinghouse is f@&king useless. Doesn’t give you many options at all. I just wish Simpson made top loaders again. Front loaders are a time waster. Show details
Disappointing – Disappointing washing machine! Doesn’t have a long enough wash cycle to actually clean clothes. I had a Fisher and Paykel SmartWash before this and was so much better. The Auto cycle is useless as doesn’t use enough water so the clothes are still dry in patches and of course still dirty. The way it fills with water from the bottom is stupid as I… Read more
use liquid detergent or sheet detergent which means it doesn’t get mixed in as it only mixes from the bottom. As it’s a 10kg load it has the capacity to wash quilts but I wonder how effectively it is doing that. It’s a poor design and program all round! A very disappointing washing machine!
Westinghouse Top loader washing machine – I had a 10kg top loader LG and sold it due to moving interstate, I was hoping for the same quality and wash in this machine, Mmm Definitely not. You cannot just do a quick wash The rinse and spin is 35 minutes! No gentle hand wash for woollens or gentle things If it chooses Auto wash , but not enough water to cover the clothes, My display unit on dashboard is faulting And my machine is only 6 months old Show details
Dreadful product and poor customer service – Do not buy! This washing machine is rubbish. I sold a good LG front loader to buy this. I have had my westinghouse for 7 weeks and it is leaking water and oil. Rung westinghouse and was told that I have to wait for a technician which they have no idea how long it will take. Then they will probably fix and maybe condider a credit. Poor product and poor customer service. A washing machine should last longer than 7 weeks. Show details
Mixed feelings – This washing machine cleans your cloths really well, the clothes don't come out sodden like some machines I have had. The down side is the programming. You cannot do a fast 20min Full load wash like to do towels, a fast wash can only be low level water. A daily is 45min but that will cover medium and low and full load is 1 hour. If you change your mind on a setting the machine has to be turned off and back on. Show details
Good work horse – I really like my Westinghouse Toploader, it takes a massive load or a queen size doona or sheets and blankets, and I always get a good result. I was concerned when I purchased it because some reviews talk about how it creates lint, but if you keep the lint bag clear that works perfectly. I also really like the glass lid as it enables you to see how things are going.
Good and bad – We find this machine quieter than our previous. We love the glass lid that you can see in through. I like that there are lots of wash options. It’s also a huge size which helps fit lots in. Also easy to use. The negatives, actual wash cycle is so short. More washing time needed. The auto fill option isn’t good at all. Never enough water. needs reprogramming in future models. Clothes can tangle so that’s horrible when emptying. I think because there is no agitator. Overall it washing everything for our home and I always use more water than less because I like things washed well and rinsed well.
fails to effectively clean – used in domestic rural living. wont clean effectively. will require hand pre wash most times for soiled clothes. washing clothes twice sometimes. short washing time when compared with total wash cycle. is adding to work load and wasted time. would not recommend for this application
Early days – We purchased this unit to replace our 12-year old Simpson 9.5kg which finally broke after years of very heavy use, during which it didn't need any spares or repairs whatsoever. The Westinghouse is neatly designed but I think the glass lid is a pointless extravagance - you can't see much under the dark tint anyway. Although it's a 10kg machine… Read more · 1
the bowl actually seems smaller than the old one. Speaking of the bowl, if you're a shorter person it's very difficult to reach that last sock at the back and, unlike the Simpson, you can't turn the bowl by hand to bring it within reach! On the plus side it's quiet and the spin cycle removes more water than the old machine. It shuts down very quickly when out of balance but the warning beep is so quiet you won't know until you come to empty the machine, thinking it's finished the wash, only to find it's just been sitting there awaiting your input. The Simpson tended to hammer on the wall to get your attention...!
After only three weeks we're still getting to know the machine - we'll know if it's as good as the Simpson in about ten years’ time...
