Fit for the dump – I have had this machine for 4 years and for at least 4 months it has been out of action while we wait for parts. We had an old one and it was good. this current one is an absolute lemon and it was not cheap. We have extended warranty but its not much good when the washing machine is not available for use

Rust Getting Worse – This machine is not good. On the advice of a "friend" I purchased this lemon approximately 6 years ago. We have 3 busy boys and a lot of washing. The lint factor is terrible. I thought it was me and my washing methods but not so according to other reviews but by far the worst problem is the rust all around the lid edge and also along the top of… Read more

the machine itself. Rust spots on 'clean' clothes very frustrating and not cheap to start with. Commercial quality my foot! A dud.

Dark colours get lint all over them – I've had this machine for about 4 four years and I'm fed up with lint getting all over our dark clothes. Also if you don't put your delicates like bras in a laundry bag then it gets tangled somehow around the agitator and twists all around your other clothes. I can't believe they don't have a lint filter on these, 25 years ago they even had them… Read more

on the twin tub washing machines, come on whirlpool it's just a basic requirement for any machine. I'm now deciding on which front loader to buy- not a whirlpool either!

Rust and more rust after 6 years – Would never buy another Whirlpool or for that matter any steel topped washer, I have always been careful with cleaning my machine after each use and it still rusted out all the top section and the lid. Whirlpool Australia were not interested in my complaint. So never, never again Whirlpool. My old Hoover lsted 15 years. Easy dials. rusting out too quickly and it was not cheap to purchase in the fist place.

Whirlpool - They last! – We bought our first Whirlpool at the Brisbane Ekka in 1978. It lasted 27 years with a bit of by pass surgery done by my husband towards the end. Bought a new one (Super Capacity Plus Washer) and only just now am having trouble with it - it won't do the last spin on the regular cycle and have to put it through a couple of spins on the casual… Read more

press cycle. A replacement control dial is $210 so we are considering buying a new one instead. Family and friends with blankets and doonas use our machine because their front loaders won't take the item and it takes hours to wash. Michelle

Love this machine – It's heavy duty, you can fit large items in the machine, eg quilts and sleeping bags Items come out clean and smell fresh Easy to use and everyone can use the machine especially people who don't like electronic buttons Quick wash only takes 30 minutes I would recommend this washing machine to people who don't like electronic buttons Quick wash takes 30 minutes Noisy  Show 2 replies

On the second one – We have had two of these. The first one ran for 10 years only requiring a new rubber cog ($20) after about 6 years..........I fixed it myself. I brought the second one when I had an electrical problem after 10 years. We were remote in Northwest WA so repairing the machine was a problem. I'm sure the old one would have been easily fixed with a… Read more

simple electrical problem but a new one was only $760 so why bother. I believe these machines made in USA come close to Maytag for quality. Highly recommended. Robust, Cheap to buy and easily repairable. Will outlast 5 electronic control machines. Uses a fair bit of power and water.

Excellent – after tossing in our stupid fisher and paykel machine we have just replaced our whirlpool machine after 10 years, we bought another similar one with dials not computers, it iss easy to use with basic dials i have just needed to replace this machine but it lasted 10 years, there wasnt a day that we didnt use this machine and it worked hard. we… Read more

chose this machine because it didnt have a computer touch panel and it was simple with dials for all of our family to use its not the best water savy or power savy machine on the market

Excellent – I bought this machine only because my mum's whirlpool machine lasted 25 years+, I bought mine in 1999 and it's still going strong and I use it almost every day. I used to go through a lot of rubber cogs from unbalanced loads etc, but when it was 6 years old I put $400 into a full service using an expert serviceman and haven't had to put in a dime… Read more

into it since. My husband is a grubby carpenter and fisherman and I have a baby now too and it washes fantastically every time, from the grubbiest loads to the finer hand wash cycle. Mine is the 7.5kg top model with the extra rinse cycle (9 cycles). I paid $1200 for mine in 1999 and I notice now they are only $1100 for the same machine, or even cheaper on special! Cannot fault this machine at all, my sister went through 3 electronic fisher and paykel machines in the time I bought mine until she bought a whirlpool 2 years ago and is really happy with hers too. Has lasted 12 years so far, Quality Steel Outer Casing, has Dials & buttons - not electronic rubbish, fantastic washing - every time, huge selection of wash cycles and load levels, worth the extra money for sure!! Cons, only self caused - Must find a good repairer if something does go wrong - otherwise throwing your money away, the steel casing on the inside after 10 years is really rusty - but I do live on the coast and I used to soak things overnight with the lid on, bad idea.

Excellent – I bought my washing machine 6 years ago and have never had a problem with it, and we have moved 3 times since then and it has been bashed around quite a bit. I chose this washing machine because it has old fashioned dials and not digital controls which are prone to malfunction. Heavy duty, quality built washing machine. Manual dials so easy to see… Read more ·  1

at a glance the washing cycle. Also less likely to have electronic problems unlike digital controls. Easy to operate. Huge capacity. All made of metal and not plastic. Top loader so can stop the washing cycle to add more clothes. Made in USA so quality construction, not cheap import. Has a low energy rating of only one star.

Good – After 6 years of reliable service the timer switch played up and had to be replaced (cost $220) saved on labor cost as I did it myself. The coupling for gearbox/motor followed after 6 months (cost $25) very easy to replace. Machine is now going into its 9th year of service and still is reliable. Most owners complain of lint problem but don't… Read more ·  1

realise that all 6ALSC models are equipped with 'magic clean' lint filter located at the bottoem of the basket which filters the water during washing and dislodged during the draining cycle. I have seen the inside components of the machine including the gearbox, pump, motor and basket housing and am satisfied of the quality workmanship put into it. Simple to operate, metal case, basket, lid and gearbox built to last. Major components (pumps, gear box, timer switch, valves and motors) quality made in USA. Minor components made in South America. Inside casing prone to rust.

OK – Ours lasted about 6 years then had to have major repairs costing $500 and only got another 2 1/2 years before it got the same problem again. The motor is still going strong but doesn't agitate or spin any more. Turned out to be quite expensive- $1500 for 8 years use. But we are a family of 6 so this machine was really worked. This machine can take… Read more

a big load. Sleeping bags, quilts, heaps of towels and does a good job. You can adjust water level to suit load size and can interrupt cycles to add more items. It can get unbalanced and jump around the floor.
