Tough no gimmick washer – Had my whirlpool washer for over 14years and still working good..out does all the digital washers . Simple turn dial no need to worry about digital breakdowns that cost a fortune to repair..longest lasting. Washer ive own since i descided to go old fashioned turn dial.owner other brands that were digital they lasted 5 years .throw aways.highly recommend the whirl pool Show details
Answer to banging when using this machine – I have had this difficulty often AND it is nothing to do with how the machine operates, BUT how the clothes are placed in the machine with heaviest items ie bath towel, queen size sheets at the bottom progressively adding items with lesser weight as you load machine. Banging occurs because machine gets unbalanced when operating. Need to… Read more
re-balance machine by adjusting the heavier wet items around the agitator.
There is another review about how to clean under the agitator asking how to detach this part. I felt this was needed to share what I have learned so that it can benefit other people. The washing machine is a precision machine. It shouldn't be disassembled by end users as this will cause the machine to not work or do damage which will cause expensive repairs IF it can be repaired.
To clean this part choose a product that is designed to clean the washing machine purchased from a supermarket. Second, use a washing machine technician to do this for you and provide advice about how to clean your machine.
Worst machine ever, very regretful purchase! – Machine is loud, clunky, rough on clothes. It makes a banging every time I do a wash had it looked at apparently it is what it is and nothing I can do. Whirlpool customer service were very friendly and helpful but I can't find receipt so I'm stuck with this "ready to be a firepit" hunk of junk. I have purchased and very much liked many whirlpool… Read more
products over the years but will think twice for now on. Clearly this machine is a lemon after all the reviews I have read.

I have owned two in 27 years – Well recently came across these reviews as was thinking I may had to buy a third as the my machine of 14 years stopped spinning but when I googled the problem after much thought into buying another which to replace was looking at approx $1,600 and to get a Wash Machine mechanic in about $150 for someone to look at it before repair, so Googled… Read more
issue "Whirlpool W/Machine won't spin"came across Youtube videos and guess what my issue was there and quick easy fix issue took down part number and found that on EBAY - so cost $17.00 with postage, part arrived 5 days later and in she goes and all fixed for $17.00 - Part was a Whirlpool Motor Coupling 285753 for top loaders. I was so impressed normally you would call the mechanic pay call out fee and then probably he would charge a few hundred for the repair. This machine will probably go for another few years yet, no rust as I see a few have written, not noisey and no lint on clothes love this machine can fit King size doonas etc into it
, when she eventually go will replace with another as these last the time and no flimsy fiddly bits to it and straight up easy repairs.
can't complain – So we have had this machine for about 8 years and in that time it has served us well apart from the lint everywhere, because this machine doesn't have a lint collector it has to go somewhere, so it goes on your clothes. I found that our clothes don't wear any quicker, it is pretty loud but it does clean well when there is no lint but then again… Read more
its a combination of everything isn't it, like good washing powder etc.
If you overload this machine it hasn't got a warning beep thank goodness, it just stops, the only other issue I have had with this machine after many years with it is that it doesn't spin dry sometimes so I have to make adjustments to my load and then off it goes as good as new.
The thing I really love about this machine is that even with its agitator I can still fit doona's in here which is a bonus for a family of our size. I wouldn't purchase this again but I'm not in a rush to replace it either as it's not costing us anything and it cleans our clothes apart from lint but that is my only complaint which doesn't warrant a replacement in my book especially when this machine has lasted this long our last FP washing machine didn't go past 5 years and it cost an obscene amount so we are happy for now with this one.
I love this machine! – I didn't really get any say in the choice of this machine, as it was bought for me as a gift when my old F&P top loader died. One of the factors in the choice of this (so I was told) was that it doesn't have an electronic panel, unlike most other machines on the market. The electronic controls often die long before the motor and are so expensive… Read more
to replace that it's not worth it (like in my F&P). (Was once told by a guy who takes away old washers that he's always on the lookout for manual control knob washers, because they can be easily repaired and can last for years, and there's a huge second-hand market demand for them).
The other factor in the decision was the size. I have a family of 5, and I have to wash every day to keep up with the laundry piles. My husband is a brickie, and all 3 kids are boys, who are always grotty and grimy! This machine can take huge loads! I can put large amounts of bedding through, or the entire family's towels in a single load.
Unlike so many other reviewers on this panel, I have absolutely no complaints with the wash results! The clothes are cleaned well, and although the wash action does seem quite robust, it hasn't destroyed anything. I do use a wash bag for all very delicate items, though. Considering the mud and cement dust my husband brings home, and the dirty football gear from the teenager, and the disgusting food/snot/poo-covered clothes the toddler produces, I would say this machine does an amazing job!
The fact that it has an electronic temperature control is brilliant, as here in Canberra the cold water can be absolutely freezing in winter, but this machine adds just enough hot water to make the water the optimal temperature to achieve an effective cold wash.
I really don't know how others have had such problems with lint! I spent the first few washes searching for the lint filter to empty it, because I assumed it had one, as there was no lint left on my clothes. You can imagine how surprised I was to discover that there wasn't one! To me, that's a time-saving bonus! And no, after around 2 years there still isn't any lint on my clothes.
If I'm going to nitpick, I suppose it doesn't spin as well as my old machine - the washing can still be a little damp at the end. And it is a long reach down to the bottom to get out all the small items, so if you have major back problems I wouldn't recommend it. Another VERY minor complaint is that it doesn't beep or anything when the load is finished, which is mildly irritating after having that feature on my old washer. All in all, I really have no complaints. Just don't drop the lid on your fingers, as it is really heavy! Huge capacity, sturdy and robust, metal lid, "manual" controls rather than electronic, electronic temp control A little noisy, slightly inadequate spin cycle, very deep bowl.

It goes and goes and goes – I have had this top loading Whirlpool washing machine for 10 years now and I cannot fault it. It cleans beautifully. I chose this model because it had manual controls and no push button computer controls which other people have told me can go wrong if the computerized mechanism becomes faulty. The machine is metal and very sturdy with an… Read more
agitator which I find cleans clothes much better than a front loader. Although expensive I think that is is totally worth the money. Absolutely fabulous, reliable and relatively quiet.
Great machine – I've had my machine for about 9 years and have no problem recommending it as a good washing machine (once you learn to CHECK ALL POCKETS for tissues). The water consumption is higher than I would like but the cleaning efficiency and reliability outweigh these considerations. It is noisy compared to the direct drive machines but I find myself… Read more
having a little groove in the laundry to the beat so to speak. The gentle cycle is very gentle on my woolens and the extra rinse is good for getting the extra detergent from my extra dirty work clothes. Reliability was my motivator with this machine as we had an old second hand whirlpool for years before passing it on. I'm a big fan of the simplicity factor as well.
A Mean Machine! – If you can remember the days when things were made to last, then you will appreciate this washing machine. I really put this machine to work and it seems to be built to take it. beyond the heavy duty structure and design, the non electronic function controls allow you to stop and change the type of wash load to suit your needs making washing… Read more · 1
easy, economical, custom designed with each wash. I confidently say it is an excellent machine made to last! It only has pros!

How do i get the agitator off to clean underneth – How do i remove the bolt to get agitator off? Is there any filter so i can clean it. Do u just do hot rince to clean the washing machine ? Also little rust spots coming up is that any concern
This machine is the worst product we have ever bought - It is extremely noisy! – It is hard on clothes, extremely irritating "noise-wise" so we had a serviceman come out & he replaced the gearbox under warranty and it is still extremely noisy and there are no favourite features. Bring back the HOOVER WASHING MACHINES made in Australia! They certainly would run rings around the "crap" being produced these days. Show details
The washing challenge – I've had this machine for about 12-13 years. Originally I hated it but now I don't know what I will replace it with if it breaks down. I think we’ve had it repaired twice a problem with the gears. Repairing was cheaper than a new machine. Good features: It’s a real workhorse. It takes a big load of bedding or towels with no problem. frequently soak washing in it like sheets and towels, over night and complete the wash next day.
The manual control means I can completely control the wash and get the results I want.
We live near the sea and everything in my home rusts but this machine is holding up well.
It tolerates extremely rough treatment from my grownup children who persistently overload it.
Not so good features: It has no system for removal of lint and this drove me crazy initially until I read the instructions, followed them, and worked out how to get rid of the lint. Simply sort the wash by colours, 3 basic groups will get rid of the lint - black, white and colours. If you have the time, you can take the lint challenge and eliminate lint by removing it first before washing – go looking for it, turn pockets out, dig into the corners, use a dry nail brush and get it all out and then you’ll have no problem.
This machine will twist large items like sheets into knots that need unravelling – is here any machine that doesn’t do this?
It does use a lot of water compared to a front loader but I like my washing properly rinsed.

Very Sorry I Ever Bought A Whirlpool Top Loader, My Clothes Alway Have Lint On Them Even When I Use – What a lemon! I am sorry I ever bought a whirlpool every load of washing is covered with lint. I even tried liquid washing powder. I am very disappointed and I double rinse. I will never entertain a whirlpool machine again and this is industrial one and I have noticed rust on the drum not happy! Gabrielle

Washes great - rusted very quickly – Love this machine MECHANICALLY !!! Rust started to appear after 12 months. Now contacting whirlpool as more rust in my machine that clean clothes. Disappointed, was told it would last 8-10 years, which I am sure the motor and washing ability will as it does a super job, but the body will fall apart around it before the motor dies. think I will just buy 2nd hand machines from now on, as not worth spending the money on new ones. great wash, clean clothes, quick easy machine to operate rust, rust and more rust
Rusted – Purchased 7/2010 with the theory that without all the electrics we wouldn't have any problems. Well mechanically, we haven't however within 4 years the lid has significant rust, the sides are also rusting and the drum has just started to show signs of rust. No warranty coverage from Whirlpool or extended warranty supplier. Rust - everywhere
Very noisey whirlpool and not good customer service – Cthis is our second machine of this same model - the previous one we had for 8 years. Purchaed another one because it did the larger loads and was efficient timewise. However, this new machine purchased in feb 2011 was a bit noiser than the first machine and has progressively been getting worse. Trying to contact whirlpool has been a delimma in… Read more

Big waste of money – Had this machine for a bit over 12 months and just put up with it as I can't afford to replace it....What a piece of junk. Terrible – I have been a Whirlpool customer for 3 hours and I have already been treated with complete contempt by their customer service team. I paid a small fortune for a machine with a large chip that may damage my clothes, yet Whirlpool demonstrates absolutely no sense of urgency and takes no responsibility for my situation. Do not even think of buying… Read more

I had one of these delivered today and they took away my old Kleenmaid. After the delivery guys left, I discovered a deep chip in the enamel bowl, about 3mm x 2mm and right down to the metal. I just got off the phone from Whirlpool "Customer Service": they told me I will have to "apply for Dead On Arrival" status, which requires that I send them proof-of-purchase, then wait up to 3 days for a Case Manager to call me back to discuss my problem and make a decision. They refuse to let me talk to a supervisor. I am furious and very unhappy.
Boat Anchor – Whirlpool customer service is terrible and they do all they can to wear you down to the point of giving up. Countless phone calls, continual side stepping. Hoses to machine were incorrect on installation and leaked like a garden hose. Due to it's American origins, thread adapters are required to the inlets which does not allow you to place the… Read more
machine within 30cm of the wall at the rear. After finally getting the machine working I discovered it actually doesn't wash the clothes. It makes a lot of noise and the clothes come out covered in lint and often not clean. This machine should be taken off the market immediately. Do not buy this machine. Solid looking construction Clothes go in dirty, come out dirty and covered in lint. Made for the American market not Australia.
Lint, lint and more lint – I recently purchased this machine after having a Kleenmaid for 20 years. Although the machine washers alright the clothes come out covered in lint. Too much lint on the clothes.
hated it – This was supposed to replace my old Hoover, I bought it because it said commercial quality, it looked strong not plasticy like the digital ones do, BUT it was crap!! Left lint all over my clothes, towels, undies, was a very harsh wash, which i thought at first was a good thing, but it wasnt. Ended up selling it for next to nothing just to get it… Read more
out of my sight. Very dissapointed with it, expected more from a Whirlpool product. solid, stong, said commercial quality crap wash, everything had lint all over it, so i had to put everytihng in the dryer to get rid of lint.
Terrible – People run away do NOT buy this washer! The knob came off the first time I used it and it was missing screws so it rattled when it was used, so I returned it only to be given a replacement which after 10 days I noticed that the bowl had already had started to rust in at least 6 different places. I had prevoiusly owned a whirlpool washer and I was… Read more
happy with that and it took 10 years for rust to start appearing in the bowl obviously the quality has become substandard over the 10 years. I would not reccomend this machine to anyone, Please don't buy one and save yourself the drama which WILL be associated with buy these washing machines. I can only decribe this as the biggest piece of junk I have ever bought. Nothing at all Pieces fall off it and the bowl rusted after 10 days

Good – I have just gone back to a top loader after 2 years with my first (& last) front loader. You couldn't change or adapt the programs in that (like you can in the Whirlpool) & it took forever to run through a standard cycle. The Whirlpool takes about 45 mins for a standard cycle. I had the previous model, which did have a far more gentle cycle,… Read more
for woollens etc, but that's not my main wash anyway. I'm a bit perplexed about the lint comments - I get no more than with my front loader, but I am very careful about what I wash together & always check for tissues beforehand! Sure, it uses more water (& therefore power, if I have a hot wash)than my front loader, but water (& heating) isn't an issue where I live. It is far kinder on lowels than the front loader & I have had far less 'knotting' of clothes in this machine (even though I put my delicates in an underwear bag, it still knotted them completeyl in the front loader). It also can deal with a few items without unbalancing - something my front loader couldn't cope with where I'd end up hand wringing things in frustration! Whilst it hasn't got many programs to choose from (3 main ones), these are plenty, if all you need are standard programs. Easy to use. Can shorten programs or start anywhere through a program. Quick cycles. Robust exterior. 'Delicates' program not as good as the previous model.
Excellent – I was in the market for a new machine, and found that most of them had metal sides but plastic tops, this was not for me, I found this Whirlpool with all the features that I wanted in a washing machine. up side it gives a good wash and is extremely efficient not to mention all at a good price. All metal casing, different load settings water rating
Terrible – I have had this machine for 10 years and it has aways run well. In the last 6 months it has started to leave lint on all my clothes. I called Whirlpool and tried the suggestions they offered. The problem persists. I often have to hand wash badly linted clothes a second time by hand. big load - had it for 10 years and it has never broken down lint problems- every wash covered in huge amount of lint
Excellent – Best buy just replaced a front loader with this top loader does a better job no lint left behind cleans gently does the job without taking 2 hrs would buy again Everything it washes the clothes clean rinses them well and handles huge amounts of clothes bedding etc and its very gentle Nothing wrong with this machine
Terrible – I really dislike this machine and wish I hand't bought it. I am looking into getting a different machine and I have only had the Whirlpool for less than a year! I just can't stand it. Bought it because it had dials and was sturdy - no plastic It rips clothes, leaves them super creased and with lint all over them.
Terrible – I have tried Simpson water saving top loader with similar wash results. I have tried Westinghouse and after two weeks the electronic board broke (lemon!) so I bought this machine because it was the only top loader that looked sturdy & had the word "commercial quality" on it. However it doesn't give a commercial quality wash! EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTED… Read more
Absolutely Nothing!! Leaves "alot" of lint on all clothes. Cant wait to get rid of it, makes my life harder having to try & remove lind when clothes are dry (very difficult).
Terrible – This machine should be taken off the market. Ive read all the reviews for it on this site and am astonished to find people giving it good reviews. I am definitely with those who have been left frustrated by the copious amounts of lint fluff and dirt left on the clothes. I like others have tried everything - lint collecting balls, vinegar, soda… Read more
crystals, hot wash for everything - nothing has worked. I am looking to get another machine. According to the salesman in Good Guys these machines are American and apparently they tumble dry most clothes and so the lint is not so much of a problem for them. To actually have clothes come out more dirty than when they went in is soul destroying! Today it was a pair of mid blue soccer shorts (no mud it was dry when they were used!) they are now covered in grey lines of lint and once again be hand washed or washed with only 6 other things on large load to stand any chance of coming clean. Our water bill has shot up as we have to extra rinse and use the large setting for everything! Avoid at all costs!! honestly you would get better results with stones and a river!
lint lint and just more lint!!
Terrible – We have had this 6 months and we are getting rid of it! Besides leaving lint on all clothes (can't wear anything dark as the lint on it looks disgusting)it also damages shirts. There is nothing gentle about this machine! It looks solid and has a flat lid which can be useful when not washing It wrecks clothes and leaves lint no matter what we do
Good – first wash a disaster...wash load unbalanced...machine went bezerk thumping and jumping around the room. except no back-up from Whirlpool...you get left on hold for up to an an hour...they are abrupt and acuse you of breaking the machine...Oh and don't expect a call-back....Fortunately the "good-guys" at Malaga replaced the machine… Read more
"no-questions-asked"..this second machine on it's first wash performed perfectly.
The attraction to me...it's solid..metal lid (no cracking or breaking plastic).....a bit aggressive on the normal wash cycle but unlike "front-loaders" you can alter the program at any time and it works and if you do find a dirty towel in the bathroom after you've started the wash just stop the machine...lift the load...add the towel and start where you wish....... it's solid and looks like it will "pay-for-itself" in life expectancy back-up service APPALLING....desparately needs reviewing
Excellent – Good perfomance for the duration of the machine, very satisfied washes clean, no filter emptying as lint leaves machine automatically, good all rounder Not plastic, like others, not a problem in 6 years, lint leaves the machine when pumped out.Variable settings, small, medium and large capacity water fill, extra rinse, good for sheets and blankets. looking for a new washer and dryer. Did alot of research and now decided on a front loader from Bosch! Good that its all metal. broke down after 8mnths! only used the machine twice a week for one load every time. The hose leaked from the very beginning. Now everytime i wash, it stops completely on 'rinse', then i would have to turn the dial on to 'spin', skipping the whole 'rinse' section. When it gets to the 'off' the machine does not turn off by itself and still have the motor running. It doesnt work either when i put it on extra rinse. What i hate the most is the lint! there is no filter in this machine! it leave my clothes with heaps and heaps of lints and does not do a good job of cleaning either.
