Good phone – For half the price of top smartphones, it offers nearly the same benefits. I've used it for more than 2 years now and I'm very happy with my purchase. The display is good; I'm no expert, but it's good enough for most smartphone users. Apps run smoothly - no problems with that so far. I was a student for most of the time I used it, so I often used… Read more
it to take photos of notes and diagrams. The photo quality was more than good enough for that purpose; it was easy to see all the necessary details of photos I took. The camera can do so much more than that though - you can adjust the aperture and shutter speed a little, so that's pretty cool. Sometimes I like to take photos of nice scenery, and the camera on this device is capable of that; the HDR mode makes the photos more vivid if that's what you like.
I also often read pdf documents and exchange emails and text messages on this phone; nothing to complain about in those aspects. Zooming in and out is easy. It's also easy to switch between languages on the keyboard.
Its main weakness is its battery life. Sometimes restarting the phone helps eliminate anything running in the background, but even then, battery runs out pretty quickly.
Might be interesting to note that in the first few months of using it, it heated up quickly, but I couldn't figure out why. I don't think my phone habits have changed drastically since then but I don't have this problem anymore.
Battery life of this thing is truly horrendous – I bought this as a second hand phone from eBay in late 2016......from the beginning the battery life was horrible even though the user said the phone was a backup device and rarely used Other than horrendous battery life ...... Seems like it's dropping 1 percent every second The other glaring weakness seems to be it's fragile build.....I barely… Read more
even bump this on the table when i put it down and it has a hairline scratch on the back ......I've seen videos from YouTube about how easily you can break the mi 5 and I guess that explains why
Function-wise .....this phone is pretty smooth in opening and executing every app Never lag or hiccup However it does heat up quite a lot of you try multitask while gaming ..... That just doesn't happen with stock android devices like Google pixels or OnePlus
It's kinda in between Google/OnePlus and Samsung ......not as buttery smooth as Google pixels/OnePlus and not as unsmooth/hiccupy What's your experience about this device ??
I've used Huawei mate 9 as well and it's much much better than this phone not just in terms of build quality but everyday usage as well Mate 9's battery is many times above this phone .......last whole day easily also it's more fluid and responsive ......it doesn't heat up when multitask while gaming .....signal reception on both are great but seems like Huawei can catch signal Jo matter where you go even if you went underground many floor down ........truly scary
All in all a barely ok device to get in 2018 Google pixel original and OnePlus phones are much better bang for bucks as well as Huawei mate and iPhone se/6s
average phone after changing from Samsung – price wise..this phone is ok,the only problem with most Xiaomi is the country or region based...a bit of undestanding is required..but not complicated ,bought this phone as a sceond phone..battery is good, light, fairly easy to use and doesnt hit hard on the pocket..it has many similar features like a samsung..! but not so much with an iphone Show details
Good phone for the price but Battery life is poor – After many hours spent researching, I decided to purchase the Xiaomi Mi5. I was pleasantly surprised that although it contained specs as good as any expensive phones in the market. My only complaint is the battery life was lacking, it would last around 12 to 14 hrs hours with no active use. Show details
decent phone bang for buck – Very nice phone with decent specs, still works quite fast in 2018. Although updates are non-existent, there is a lot of ROM support out there for this phone. battery life has deteriorated however can still last me a day with moderate use. camera is not as good as other brands but is still ok. Decent phone at a reasonable price – The phone itself was good for the price that i purchased it at. My only complaints is the battery life was lacking, only lasting around 3 hours screen on time, and the phone itself would get very hot when charging and over heavy usage. The camera, however was good taking very clear photos comparable to iPhone. Show details
I love this phone! – This is a really wonderful phone and a big improvement on my iphone. It was priced so reasonably as well, which is super important for me. The camera is amazing, I get really clear pictures even in low light. I have heaps of storage space - more than I could ever need. The only issue is if you break it, it's hard to find someone wo can fix it. So be careful and use a case. Show details
Amazing Smart Phone – This was my first Xiaomi smart phone and I'm surprised how good it is for the price. The size is perfect for browsing and playing games. The battery life is very good. No issues with Xiaomi UI as well. Good looking screen. Even the Xiaomi android overlay isn't too intrusive or full of bloatware. Some of their own apps are actually quite good. 2 friends have also bought after trying out my Mi 5 Show details
Love it! Great phone for a great price! – Why would you pay $1000 if you can pay $300+ for a phone? The phone runs pretty good. Decent camera, tons of storage space. It freezes up at times, requiring a reboot, but other than that I have no complaints. I've had it for nearly a year and it's running well, battery lasts me a whole day easily with regular use. Great phone – This phone is a really good phone made in China. Beats all competition with price details and is very similar in specs. It has a great camera which can take decent photos in low light with the flash on. Very good phone. I would Definitely recommend to anyone considering buying it. Show details
Excellent value – Great phone, super reliable and excellent battery life. Had a Sony phone before this which was double the price and had several issues. This one runs a modified android and was a bit simpler to set up and use than the standard android system. Would definitely buy this phone again! Show details
Very good value for its price – It has many apps and functions that rival the big brands. Design is very sleek and cheap to personalise with cases and protective films sourced from China. The data connection can be very slow though. Sometimes the phone refuses to connect at all while inside a car or building. Still a great phone for its affordable price. Show details
Value for money dual sim dual standby phone – Value for money dual sim dual standby phone . batter life is not that great after one year of time. Application will not start automatically after reseting the phone. overall good. Show details

Happy Customer – Bought this phone from China during our vacation to Beijing. Had to install Google apps separately because the OS was Chinese version. The OS is a bit annoying sometimes when using it for work (I'm a web developer myself) but overall the phone does its job. Camera is sharp and the OS is easy to use like Apple. Kind of regret because Mi 6 came out a few weeks after we bought the phone. Show details
Very bad experience – Very bad experience so far after a week. Bought Mi5 from NIS-store. Slow delivery for this price, too slow. The vendor permitted to DHL "drop on door" option. Nice ah? You can't claim damage during shipping after. I'm lucky to have the phone not damaged. On the second day of using the device turned crazy. Every time the virtual keyboard was… Read more
called the attack of dozens spontaneous touching hit the phone. I have a video.
Wrought vendor support, replied with: do the factory reset. Common guys! The device is 24 hours after first booting!
OK, factory reset, same crazy attacks.
So vendor asked me to send the device back, for my money, absolutely with the most expensive service. Cost me about 20% of phone price to send back something that was broken from the box.
After one month and dozen emails finally got the phone back, paid custom taxes again. The phone accumulated about 25% more price and not yet used normally for a day.
There is no more "self-touching attacks" so far, but the device is very difficult to use.
I'm personally like Google launcher, but Xiaomi doesn't. Freezings and malfunctioning all the way. OK, back to Miui launcher.
The touchscreen is so difficult to use. Moving icon to the next screen became an Everest mission, not less than 10 attempts before it's done.
It takes about 7 seconds to screen to start response after waking up. Imaging answer the phone calls. I have to keep Bluetooth garniture on all the time to not miss calls. Because Mister Phone has to take 7 seconds of waking up.
Sometimes one wake up is not enough. I have to turn the screen off and on few times to finally get the touchscreen response.
I'm not enjoying to have this device. I'm just waiting to change it to the real phone.
I don't understand so high ratings on reviews. It's not more than really beautiful and very stupid and annoying piece of plastic.
This is my tenth phone, fifth smart and the worst ever.
Not recommend to anyone.
Excellent product – bought this a gift for my wife and she loves it so much. she is an apple lover changing from apple to mi was a big change . but ever since she does not regret one bit . quality is great, camera is same as your expensive iphone 6 . we are fans of mi products Show details
Not bad for its price – I was looking to buy a new phone that wouldn't be too expensive. Xiaomi Mi 5 was great in that it was decent looking and was quite cheap. It's very responsive and has the fingerprint unlock feature which is great, but it's rear camera is not very good. Overall, I would definitely recommend the Xiaomi Mi 5 to others. Show details
Reasonable priced, excellent performance – After many hours spent researching, I decided to purchase the Xiaomi Mi5. I was pleasantly surprised that although it contained specs as good as a Galaxy S6, it had a similar design and interface comparable to an Apple branded phone. The powerful processor ensures that all functions are dealt with quickly and efficiently. My only concern was… Read more
that after an hour of continuous and strenuous use of the Mi5, that there was significant heating that you could feel coming from the phone.
For $300, I received my phone within a week and could not be happier.
Xiaomi really did a great job with this phone.
Best phone I've owned – I've been very impressed with this phone. Coming from a Sony I was expecting a step down in polish, but in fact this phone looks and feels nicer. Pros: Great battery life MiUi is simple and easy to use Thin and light Excellent camera Bright torch Comfortable to hold Cons: Strava sometimes crashes At twice the price it'd be a great phone, but at $300 it's just ludicrously good. Great phone – At its reasonably modest price – depending on which model you buy – the Xiaomi Mi5 is nothing short of staggering value for money. This is a phone that offers the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, 3GB (or 4GB in the high-end model) of RAM and 32GB, 64GB or 128GB of storage. Add in a decent camera, solid battery life and stunning design, and far… Read more
from being a phone of compromises, this is a phone of winning and awesomeness.
Quite how Xiaomi has achieved all this for a bargain price I don't know. It's also made this phone incredibly light, courtesy of a super-light aluminium frame and thin but strong Gorilla Glass 4.
All in all, there's a lot to like with this phone, and not much to grumble about – and for a grumpy phone reviewer to say that is really quite something.
Fantastic bargain, but easily damaged – When I first saw the Xiaomi Mi 5 and looked up specifications and reviews, I couldn't believe my eyes. There stood a $350 phone which could take it up to the Galaxy S6 (approx $500 at the time) and the Galaxy S7 ($800 at the time). The snappy Snapdragon 820 processor could do any task quickly and 3GB of RAM was ample for multitasking while keeping… Read more
it's fast speed. The camera had great clarity and great focus in low light and 4k video was smooth.
Unfortunately, there are some drawbacks to this phone:
The first drawback is the MIUI software supplied by Xiaomi, while it's usable, it does hold back the phone in certain regards, it's a bit unstable, causing a few more app crashes than other phones and every app must be on the home screen on account of there being no app drawer, I got over this hurdle by installing custom software but have lost my warranty in the process (it doesn't worry me as I can fix most of the issues myself or replace it due to the great price). Another drawback is there being no MicroSD card slot, which is a major issue in Snapdragon 820 based phones. With the phone being 32gb, and capable of 4k video recording, it would have been great to have a card there to throw the large files straight onto without worry but it is how it is. USB C is a bit of a problem for me, sure you can save a little bit of time by plugging in the charge cable either way but that's where the benefits end. For one, the plug is only USB 2.0, making for slower transfer speeds but there are also very little accessories available as most OTG (on the go) devices use the more standard Micro-USB ports, which is on most phones. Finally, the phone can break at the drop of a hat due to a lighter build quality, a measure to reduce manufacturing costs.
I may have been a bit too negative in this review but all in all, the phone's great. It's a high end phone with only a few drawbacks but it's well worth the price for what you get.
Sorry i bought it – It has a very good resolution and very good camera also for the price i paid it responds fast but the fact that it is not a direct android product and it has to interface MIUI on the way... creats too much bugs that makes it a hassle to use. Show details

Bad unit / no refund – Upon receiving the parcel there's no plastic on the box, unit seems to be refurbished as box is open, Can't get a decent reception, very frustrating when u are talking with someone, gets hot easily while charging but scary esp if u like charging your phone at night, upper screen warning keeps coming out advising not to cover screen even there was… Read more

April 30th 2017 Update: Cheap but not worthy - faulty/bad reception
Phone came in Open and not pack, bad reception even after it was send back for repair, on sms no smileys character in your keyboard, and hard to download music while on the other hand its great for photos but whats the use of photo if you can't have a decent reception? In less than a month i've send it back to geek after 2 mos of begging and chasing to return my unit they have ship back my item using 30days so its about 3 mos of waiting , plus u have to pay your shipping cost for repair. I was initially promised of refund w/in 24-48hrs then suddenly I was advise that my phone has been repaired after I have place a review. That could have been alright but they have used a slow mail that will make you wait for 30 days before you can get your phone w/o update in tracking website. Lesson learned If you want to buy gadgets see the difference in your local market, if it's not big then go for local market as chasing people online to have your item be repair will make you vomit blood. you will experience all emotions anger, frustrations, begging for your money back, it's not worth it. Think many times before buying expensive items / gadgets on this site. it's alright for cheap products but phone and other stuff ( well if money has never been an issue to you go ahead and buy from geek..CHEAP & GREAT RISK)
Great phone – It has great camera, battery life with low cost. If you would like to get a whole package with low cost this is your choice. I enjoy using it, it is thin and fits to your hand very well. I previously used LG G3, Oukitel K6000 and this phone is the mix of this 2 phones. Show details
Very happy.. excellent value for money – I bought it 3 months ago for $375.00 to replace my dead battery iphone 5. At the same time my daughter bought a Xperia Z5 for more money, but she is not happy with her phone. The Mi 5 phone is beautifully made, easy to use tough and yet elegant. Has a terrific camera for normal use, I photograph flowers and it is very suitable. The torch is a… Read more
