A lot of bang for the buck – I bought this phone for my boy as a first phone. I did a lot of research and this one ticked more boxes than any of the other similarly priced new phones out there. He plays games and downloads apps so decent RAM and ROM were necessary. It's plenty fast enough for what he does, but I can't imagine more intense games will work so well. The display… Read more

is fine, but don't expect flagship levels of detail and contrast. Sensors work fine, call quality is good, 4G reception is decent. Camera fine in good light, less so in sub-optimal conditions. My only gripe is the MIUI, as it's quite different to stock Android or the skins I've been used to on Moto, LG and Asus phones which are closer to stock Android. That said, the boy gets on fine with it, so what do I know? All in all, superb little phone for not much outlay. Don't expect Ferrari performance for Mazda money.

Probably better than average – This was my girlfriend's phone before she cracked the screen and got a redmi 5 instead. I decided to use the phone for repair practice and as such, changed the screen. It's a pretty good phone, I dislike the modified MIUI interface, also the processor is relatively low performance imo although very usable. For a phone from China it's… Read more

actually quite good, the updates have not broke anything yet, a few weeks ago the latest MIUI update changed the layout a bit, I guess it's ok, I just don't care about those things.

In conclusion this phone is pretty good value for money, of course you can get better value if you know exactly which phone to get from the thousands available out of China, then again that's a bit of a gamble.

Cheapest decent phone you'll get – For its price I would definitely give it a 5. I had a Samsung galaxy S4 previously which cost me about $500 when it came out and I got this phone during the Xiaomi sale for $135. It did everything the. S4 did and better although it isn't perfect out of the box. I'm not a big fan of anything that's not stock Android so this may annoy some people,… Read more

although it is a good is bit like anything that's not stock it has some useless apps that never get used and also the camera is pretty crap but once I install the Google her it is pretty much the same quality as the S4, maybe a tad worse but not something to worry about for 99% of users.

Good phone – Bought about one month ago to replace 3yr old phone that was freezing. So far has good battery life and fast internet when used. I have not upgraded it to new version yet and will wait as it works great so far. I do need to google info for usage as I am not very technical but I find what I need. I only use basic phone use and internet but for the price and YouTube reviews it was worth a try and I have been happy with it.  Show details

Excellent phone – Really good phone, especially considering the price of $230. It's fast, has an excellent battery life, good screen, fast fingerprint reader, etc. It is as good as flagship phones costing two or three times the price. I would give it five stars if it came with stock Android installed instead of the MIUI ROM.  Show details

Cant Beat this price ! – This Xiaomi Redmi 4 has a lot to offer and very price competitive. I was quite sceptical about the Chinese-brand phone, but seeing quite a few of my friend are quite happy with it, thus I gave it a go. So glad I did! This phone has lasted for almost 2 years, and still no issue. It is very robust as I lost count how many time I dropped it on the… Read more

ground. Perfect phone if you're on a budget. Just because its one of the mainstream phone, doesn't mean it is inferior.

Value for money – Easy to use. It has everything you need for a normal/moderate mobile phone user. And for the price, you cannot complain. Right size. Good camera. Run fast and perform quite well. Battery life is great so far. You can add a memory card and you won't run out of space. To sum up, a great phone at a great value.  Show details

Solid phone and good value – After around 4 months of use I can say the following: Good battery life - easily lasts the day with heavy use, however it is slow to charge Solid build - Metal body makes it feel strong Poor camera - Not the greatest shooter Cpu - Good for normal web browsing but not great for hardcore games  Show details

Alternative cheap mobile for high edged mobiles – High specs at very less price compare to Apple, Samsung or one plus.. Good performance with 3gb ram and snapdragon processor. Good screen resolution. Only negetive is camera. As we can see many negetive comments on Xiaomi series camera, this mobile also, more or less, falls in same category. Except this, I recommend this mobile at reasonable price.  Show details

Great value, feature rich phone – Fantastic value mobile handset. Most of the features of other more mainstream handsets, at 1/3 price. Fingerprint sensor, dual cameras, Pros: lightweight, great sized phone. Easy to use, looks great and fantastic value. Great battery length. Cons: screen brightness could be better. Camera is adequate but not the best quality out there. No band 28. Overall well worth the purchase.  Show details

A great phone at an excellent price – Recently I decided to buy a new phone. My current, four year old smartphone was looking a bit tired and I was lucky if the battery was lasting more than a few hours. I analysed my top requirements for a new phone and came up with the following: 1. Long battery life - I wanted one that would last at least last a day. 2. Dual sim - I travel a… Read more

bit and the ability to put in a local sim when overseas is important, otherwise roaming charges will kill you.

3. A reasonable price - sorry Apple/Google/Samsung, I just cannot justify spending a $1,000 or more on a phone.

A friend had told me that I should look at Xiaomi's Redmi range. I was in Singapore at the time and went to the local Mi store to have a look. From the start I was impressed by the look and feel of the 4X. I had a bit of a play with the phone and it seemed to do the functions I tried very well. Most importantly it was dual sim and had a huge 4000 mah battery.

Back in Australia I went scanning the web (there is no local store) and found I could get the basic model (black, 2GB ROM, 16 GB RAM) for under $200 including delivery. With all three of my requirements boxes ticked, I ordered one from a reliable supplier in China. I decided to spend up and went with the more expensive gold/white with 4GB ROM and 64GB RAM at the extra cost of $30.

I have been using the phone for a week and cannot fault it. The display is clear and bright and the screen navigation easy and intuitive. Whats more, after reasonably heavy use of over 16 hours (including video calls), the battery has never dropped below 35%. I have a lot more to try with this phone but so far I am finding it excellent and for just around $200 I am more than happy.
