Basic and not user-friendly – It's very basic. Doesn't even seem to have wireless bridge mode. Not user friendly to configure. ZTE is clearly another self-centred stingy company because there are NO firmware upgrades on their webpage for this router. Govts really must regulate to FORCE tech companies to at least LIST firmware updates even if the product is old. We're talking about a few MB. I will never ever buy ZTE again.

Good value for money NBN router – Like everyone else this router came to me free with an Exetel NBN plan. Mine has a manufacture date of May 2019 on it which I think is an early one. Most others I've seen are Jul 2019. Has worked faultlessly since then until very recently when it started dropping the LAN port connections. Could only get one LAN port to work so had to connect… Read more

everything else through an 8-port switch. Eventually I got to opening it up and taking a look inside. There are four plastic spring-hook clips (2 each side) that need to be levered apart. One of mine broke, but not so badly that it couldn't be repaired with superglue. Then there are two philips head screws down by the stand at the bottom accessible from the back. Undo the screws first, then lever the spring clips apart along the sides. The clamshell case comes apart quite easily and the single board inside drops out. There are no wires anywhere to deal with, it's just a single board with everything mounted on it. There are four capacitors on the board. Two large black ones that stabilise the incoming power supply laying horizontally. There is a third blue one adjacent to the USB socket and my problem one was green on the opposite side near a line isolation transformer. This one had bulged in the top and had clearly failed, though not yet leaking electrolyte. Unusually for a Chinese made piece of electronics this cheap, the capacitors are actually 105°C rated ones as opposed to 85°C. Uusally on a piece of equipment like this they save 1c by using the 85°C ones.

A new 25V 220μF 105°C capacitor cost all of 40c from Altronics and all was good again. I have the router connected FTTN to two discrete TP-Link EoP adapter circuits (one for each floor of double storey house) with three WiFi adapter repeater/extenders, as well as using the routers own WiFi antennas as well for a total of four transmitters throughout the house. The LAN ports on the router go to TP-Link EoP sender unit; an 8-port switch and a long extension CAT5 cable to upstairs junction powered 10-port switch. The 8-port switch serves two network printers, a single Windows 7 PC, a CCTV recorder device and of course one port to connect to the router.

The upstairs 10-port switch then serves 2 x CCTV cameras; long CAT5 extension to rear of house to another 8-port switch for an LG SmartTV; 2 x Win7 PCs; 1 x XP PC and the upstairs circuit TP-Link EoP sender adapter.

Amazingly this all works perfectly well even though the EoP adapters are a real mis-matched set of different versions/ages and even manufacturers as well. There are two PA9020 v4.0 adapters, 1 x PA8010 v1.0 adapter, 1 x WPA v1.0, 1 x WPA v2.1 & 1 x WPA v3.0 as well as one Netcomm NP507 adapter serving another LG SmartTV.

There is no point in getting a better router because I cannot get connected FTTP without major new cable runs as the entry point location for the connection box is at least 20m away from where the utility box would need to be located on the inside of the house, hence stuck on FTTN which can only yield a maximum speed of 40/11Mbps here, which is more than able to be handled easily with this modem. Limited by FTTN rather than the capacity of the modem. If I had to I would buy another of these modems second hand from ex-Exetel customers off eBay/Gumtree because nothing else comes close for the price when you don't need the bleeding edge of technology to handle a simple FTTN connection.

Only problems are that ZTE won't support this modem anymore as it is obsolete. They won't provide firmware updates nor any help with repairs or servicing. Exetel bought the modem with the rights to provide all backup and servicing for it and if you're no longer an Exetel customer, they won't help either. The last firmware for it is version 10 available only here: https://exetel.my.salesforce.com/sfc/p/#90000000mptD/a/Ie0000004Pnc/hefQJCDth6E7ThT4IYrwJBJJOKPiaSGq7wxxV_IrQKI

Terrible Modem – Has a terrible connection at 10m on the 2.4ghz network. This is the modem that came with my 50mbps internet plan and I am receiving a maximum of 5mbps. It literally takes an entire minute to load a google search, completely unusable. Show details

Solid performer, should work for any situation. No problems at all – Bought this second hand for just $10 when my Netcomm NF18ACV failed after six months and I didn't want to wait for warranty fix. Factory reset it and it came up set for Exetel but that didn't work for my ABB FTTN connection. Did a search, then ticked PTM and Link Type IP and it works beautifully. WiFi range seems very good - e.g. speedtest over… Read more

Ethernet cable gets 47Mbps, while at 3 metres the wifi gives 45 Mbps and at ten metres, about 38 Mbps. That is way better than I'd expected given some comments about its wifi ability.

It works fine with my ABB VoIP after setting a couple of basics. For any techies - have changed the subnet, set up DHCP reservation and port forwarding no worries. Seems like a very configurable modem that also works well - no issues at all with this. Good looking unnit too. Edit : it's running the latest 1.0.1_ETL.1T10 firmware. I gather that versions before T9 had limitations so upgrade if you can

Decent modem with a few issues – 1. Got it free from Exetel on a 12-month contract (so can't really complain) 2. Definitely has firmware issue (also not user friendly) 3. I only used it as a wireless modem so perform was subpar at best. 4. Definitly had regular disconnections. 5. Had to perform restarts on most weekly bases. Show details

The Wi-Fi is available only 10 meters away from the modem – The router is so bad, I had to buy an extender and even the extender struggle to connect to the router and it is in the room next to it. Show details

ZTE H268A - IT DOES THE JOB – Well I'm not a "savvy I.T. guy", but after my Netcomm NF18AC Modem Router failed, I contacted my ISP, Exetel, and they provided me with the ZTE268A free of charge (except for $20 delivery fee). This device does everything I require to access the NBN via my P.C. and stable WIFI connections to other devices such as laptop, mobile phones. smart… Read more

T.V. (video streaming) + it provides VOIP telephone services. The latest T9 firmware upgrade allows separate VOIP service providers to be configed from each of the two telephone ports.

For the extremely cheap price this router is a definate bang for buck – This is an extremely good router for the cheap price it is. 5Ghz wifi is good in my home, but not as solid as my wrt1900acs with custom long tplink antennas. The admin interface is good, but not as advanced as my wrt1900acs. This router is very easy to setup. VOIP is great. I'm using this on my NBN HFC with Exetel. If you are looking for… Read more

something more advanced with advanced features like my wrt1900acs then you need to pay more. I use this as my main system and my wrt1900acs + Cisco SPA112 as my backup system. This is a really good router for the cheap price you pay.

The admin interface is very bad – Unable to set up a static routing. Hard to find where to set up most things. Exetel unable to give a fix. And on the ZTE web site, can't find the documents. Show details

Works perfectly – I got this modem for $20 when I signed up on an Exetel 12 month contract. I've been using the modem for over 6 months and have had no issues. Show details

Decent modem – Modem was supplied by Exetel upon signup, seems much faster than the TG789 (supplied be TPG, iiNet etc) and the interface is much easier to use Setup was simple plug and play, no configuration required. The modem also looks good, and the way it sits upright means it doesnt get as hot as other modems I've owned in the past Show details

Works well – Got this modem included with our new nbn plan and cane preconfigured and just needed to plug it in and wait for it to connect. Simple and easy. Lightweight and compact. Essy to place out of the way. Nice slim, white design. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a new nbn modem.  Show details

Wireless 5G – Just want to share with everyone that if your mobile phone is not detecting the 5Ghz wireless, try setting a channel number instead of AUTO. Start with Channel 36, then apply. My OPPO start to detect 5GHz as soon as i did that. FYI: this modem is rebooted in around 1 1/2 minutes.  Show details

Plastic Rubbish – This is perfect for the average home user. HOWEVER, if you're a savvy IT guy, this thing is totally a POS. I need to do the following and the ZTE either doesn't do it or it does it so poorly that you go back to your cisco router. Static routing, VPN software, NAT's, ACLs etc, even my samsung TV can't connect to it..  Show details

Great mid range NB Gateway with VoIP - no reason not to accept as part of package – Great gateway modem that came free with Exetel FTTC NBN. Above the usual gig switch stuff it's got two phone ports for VOIP (Nice and clear codecs) and USB drive - yet to test. Overall, it's simple to use, has many config options - right up with the Billion series. And it does what it needs to well. Four stars as I'm mildly concerned at ongoing… Read more

Works well – Our ZTE modem for the NBN broadband internet works well. Fairly simple to install although the interface onscreen is a bit difficult to navigate especially to change passwords for WiFi. WiFi range is OK. 2.4 or 5 MHz don't interfere with our in house radio reception. Vertical stance of modem looks good  Show details

I can't fault it – I purchased this from Exetel when my netcom unit failed. We were still on ADSL at the time and the set-up was a bit of a headache, although the Exetel technical staff were very helpful in locating a Telstra fault that was the main problem. When we upgraded to NBN fixed wireless the modem has performed without a problem, we can have two devices… Read more

Does the job, bit of a bargain really – I purchased this router for $79 when I signed up with Exetel. The wireless performance is very good as I can stream HD videos to my HTPC. A couple of things to be mindful of; the modem is advertised for $59 but you need to pay $20 for shipping, and the USB port has been disabled by the manufacturer so you can't use it to plug in a storage device. Overall I'm very happy with the router, especially for the price.  Show details

Wasn't as bad as i thought – Bought this when i signed up to exeter. Was dubious at first as i thought it would be cheap rubbish but it does exactly what we want for half the price of other routers. Cant fault it. Struggled to set it up but exeter helped me and I was the problem rather than the router!
