took 4 phone calls since yesterday before I could get on the phone with an accountant and discuss any further information they might need. There is no way the return will be completed today as now I have to go to work. I am livid as I cannot afford a fine. Something has changed with their service and I am extremely frustrated and not happy as a long-term customer.

Update 12/06/26 It seems the only way you can accomplish anything is to leave a complaint these days. My tax is due to be lodged today after an extension from last time. Yesterday after speaking with the accountant for an hour it became clear that not all my expenses were lodged. My car kms defintely weren't. It is currently showing that I owe a fair bit to the ATO. I also sent in heaps of information yesterday as a major part of my business wasn't accounted for and the whole process is so stressful and confusing. The communication has been all over the place. I have been asked for information that I provided ages ago. It makes me wonder how accurate it is. I have been trying to ring them for hours now to ensure if things are good to go and I wait on hold for ages and then the call drops. I don't know if my lodgement will happen on time yet again and I already owe a few grand. If I get a fine on top, I will not be happy. I understand my situation is a little more complex this year and I did call about that and they assured I would be fine and they could still help. I never had issues like this with them and recommended Etax to many others due to their accuracy and efficiency. They were super quick and I was never stressed, but judging by other reviews I am not alone this year. This whole process has taken hours away from my business and caused so much stress. I will not be using their service again

When I did get through to someone, they were very unprofessional and I was advised the accountant would call me back at the time I specified I would not be available via an email I sent earlier today.

Terrible service, delays, absolutely no support you would expect from an accountant. Did not answer my questions, or explain any of the actions they took. They used to be good but I can now only warn people to not use them.

conversations with their team, only to be met with misinformation and conflicting answers at every stage.

Each time I think we are ready to lodge, they come back wanting to charge more. They repeatedly ask questions that are already clearly answered in the files I uploaded. It feels like they either are not reading the documents or are deliberately stalling.

I have recommended Etax to countless friends in the past, many of whom switched based on my advice, and I am now genuinely embarrassed for steering them here. What used to be a seamless service has turned into an expensive, frustrating mess. This will be my last year with them, and I can no longer recommend them in good conscience.

take days to answer questions you ask, and that even if they do answer. You submit all details yet they will ask you questions relating to receipts which were submitted at time of lodgement to them. They haven’t bothered to look at them. So not sure why you would bother submitting receipts. Pay refunds in to incorrect bank details then wipe their hands of it. They haven’t bothered either gotten too much work and can’t handle it or they just don’t care anymore. Not sure which one but my family of 5 won’t be using them again after this years…..

his receipts being destroyed in the recent flood disaster in Taree and Central Coast, I also confirmed this information was correct with ATO. I told my grandson to ensure he advised e-tax of this which he did as he showed me the email. They were continually sending msgs back and forward until my grandson told them to just submit it. They cost my grandson about $500 and I wish I had done his tax for him. He will not be using them again as it was so straight forward and they still didn't claim his deductions right. Be wary

I didn't know that these people take out a fee from your tax return, mind you I already paid $44.90 as some fee after filling out my tax return and towards the end after I signed it they told me then they take out there fees, im not sure what the fee is for as my return was clearly so easy nothing really to fill out as I am on a disability pension, so what fees are you people talking about???? Show reply

My accountant, Ravi, was incredible. He saved me circa $11k in tax! He has been so friendly and understanding of my lack of knowledge. He explains everything in laymans terms, and he's so patient. Wouldn't want another accountant. Thank you Ravi, you're an asset to Etax. Show reply

Absolutely terrible experience with Etax. Everything is automated and getting help from an actual person seems impossible. They removed multiple legitimate tax deduction claims even though I provided receipts, and when I asked for an explanation, I either got useless generic responses or was completely ignored. claims are rejected. You’re expected to trust an automated system that makes decisions without properly reviewing evidence or answering customer questions. For a company handling people’s tax returns, that’s unacceptable. Customer support feels non-existent, communication is awful, and the whole process became frustrating and stressful instead of helpful. I would strongly recommend people think twice before using Etax if they expect proper support or fair handling of deductions.

This company can not provide ethical accounting. This company shows no integrity. Avoid this company please. If you did find this company useful previously lodge yourself via ato. If you did not, find another accountant. We could have potentially lost thousands. We have lost valuable time.

know which accountant is handling your file, and there is no continuity. Each response seems to come from a different person with a different interpretation, which leads to inconsistent advice.

More concerning is that some of the advice provided was incorrect and not aligned with Australian Taxation Office guidelines. When I challenged this, no proper explanation or reference was provided. There were also unexplained adjustments made to my figures, e.g. reduction in kilometres and calculation discrepancies, and again, no clear justification was given despite multiple requests.

I had to cancel the service with them because it was too frustrating. I would not recommend this service if you expect accurate, personalised, and accountable tax advice.

As a customer of ten years, my advice to you is this: if your taxes are simple, you are better off using the ATO's free myTax service. If your taxes are even slightly complicated, be prepared for delays with Etax. Their expertise can ensure your tax return is optimised, potentially saving you from overpaying due to a lack of specific NZ/AU cross-border tax knowledge.

Etax does not support the tax payer. You have to pay for your return so they get you then end up with a double amount tax bill and absolutely no support or help for claiming expenses. Absolutely disgusting and never ever again will I use this tax agent. I will be screaming to everyone near and far to avoid them .

This is the third year I use them but I won’t ever again. This year both my partner and I had a lot of issues with them. Lack of communication, sending tax declarations without permission, mistakes all over the declaration just to name a few.

There have been a few more complex issues, but with respect, politeness and patience these were dealt with in a most professional manner.
