Very Good – Bought this 2008 model in 2021, it had done 133,000 klms. In the first week it needed a new starter motor (under dealer's warranty fortunately). Paid $900 to fix kangaroo hopping issue a year later, and had a whining noise another year later fixed by adding oil (no charge, tx!). They have been the only problems. I get it serviced every year at… Read more
local mechanics, wherever I am. Currently at 160,000 klms and going strong. Pros : smooth drive, back (3rd) row of seats fold completely flat giving extra storage room. Does about 450 klms on a tank. Can take 300kgs in the back easy. Air con is great. Big windscreen with a big view. Cons : Biggest problem is that it's too low, often hits the back end in driveways, even unloaded. Can't tow more than a trailer, certainly not a caravan. The middle console is a joke, about one inch deep, it's only good for the cup holders - at least it has one, though. The hub caps are looking very tatty. I'll be trading this in for a van, for the extra storage room, but reluctantly, since this Odyssey has been so reliable.
So comfy and spacious car. Perferct for family – I love my honda odyssey 2005 rb1 but i have a few problem with : 1) interior light at the middle and back cabin, all of those cant work now, only on front cabin that does work. I’ve tried to replace the bulb but still doesnt work. 2) screen start error by showing weird letter and clock disorientated and keep blinking. There is the clock button on… Read more

Body creaks, metal rattles metal tapping noises, exhaust rattling noise and internal plastic snapping noises – Purchased a brand new MY2020 model in 2021. Body creaks, metal rattles and metal tapping noises - especially if there is a rapid change in outdoor temperature from cold to hot, can also be heard when stationary at the traffic lights. Possibility of the chrome guard trims (front and rear) not secured to body properly, i can tap on the chrome trim lightly and it makes the same noise. The body panel directly underneath the left and and right very rear windows aren't held in tight enough to the body and can be lifted and pushed slightly to replicate the metal rattle.
Exhaust rattling noise - very noticeable after putting the car in "Park", turning the engine off and remain sitting in the vehicle. Coming from rear area. Never driven a car that did this.
Internal plastic snapping noises - very distinct plastic snapping noise from the top plastic sunglass holder trim area. I initially thought it was a coin being thrown at the windscreen (sounds the same), but further narrowing down the source of the noise, i can press on the side of the plastic sunglass holder trim and replicate the sound. It's like the plastic trim is warped as it is cheap quality plastic.
These issues are due to be addressed again by the dealership next week.
More to come.

little annoying and too much for this price car. 350km driving range per tank is very short distance. Good side, no matter what my two kids love this minivan.

It is a nice car but service is a problem – I has been driving the car for a few years. It is easy to handle, very suitable for city driving. Big room for family ride. The only issue a the service provided by a Honda dealer. One of the side mirrors was damaged. Then the camara for parking was no longer alligned after the mirror was fixed. This is not good enough. Good car, but be wise to pick a good dealer for service.
Nice practical car for a family – Bought a brand new 2021 Odyssey ViLX7 after test driving from a dealer for 45 mins. I must say that they have improved the ride and handling of this 2021 model compared to the previous upgrade they did back in 2018 when ride comfort was pretty bad. The new look is far more better looking too than the previous face upgrade. Yes the old carry over… Read more
2.4 CVT engine could've been better, but I'm not a driver who is power hungry as this vehicle will only be driven around the suburbs, school pickups, grocery shopping, etc. After all this vehicle was purchased for it's practicality and it's smaller dimensions compared to the likes of Carnival, Granvia, Merc and VW, but still having enough space inside to seat our family of 7 comfortably. And out of all compared people movers, the Odyssey is the cheapest to buy brand new. Some new introduction of tech is pretty much useless like the hand gesture 'star wars' door. I would rather Honda Aus kept the curtain shades on the window as per previous upgrade. An extra storage between driver and front passenger would also be handy similar to what they have on the Asian market.
Overall this vehicle is a step up from us, as we had previously owned a 2007 Tarago, which we had for 11 years until the car was written off due to a minor accident. Toyota reliability at it's best. All other people movers in this segment are too expensive, long and wide compared to the Odyssey, which makes it hard on public parking spaces and garage taking too much space. Time will tell on the reliability of this 2021 model. Hopefully this can measure up to our beloved Tarago.
10 years still going strong – Had our Honda luxury wagon 2006 10 years! Its only had the alternator rebuilt once in that time. Never had any major problems with it and has done over 300,000 kms. The inside his terrible looking as the leather is ripping right off all the seats. But has moved house's, carried friends, children even slept in it. Show details

Honda quality got bad – Bought brand new 2016 odyssey vti l when it first came out. Just after 40,000km resonator went bad, engine vibration is really bad at idle, especially with ac on. Very expensive car for what it is and engine is garbage – Purchased 2012 "luxury" as a family car. Needed seven seats and wasn't prepared to pay 70k+ at least for something else. fired up so there's that. Brakes. Rubbish. Wear quickly and I'm a good driver. Comfort. Squashy with 7 Aircon. Good. Entertainment system. Boring. Not well featured. Engine...... Sigh... So. 2-3 years in, the engine starts rattling on start. Take it to Honda. "Nothing wrong. Come back if it persists". Persists. Book it in. 3 weeks later still working on it. Get it back, engine rattle gone but soon after it begins shaking violently on accelerating. Tyres checked. Alignment checked. Cv checked. Can't find issue. New brakes, rotors and tyres helped but it's still there. Oh, and the start rattle came back after less than 2 years and now the car gives DTC errors that indicate the chain is stretched. This all in a car on 128000km, regular services. Very disappointed and wouldn't buy a Honda again if it was 80% off. Humbly, I am thinking of talking to a solicitor about this because really for a brand that prides itself on longevity of it's vehicles, this model is not up to par and I'd expect that at 128k km the whole bloody engine didn't need to be stripped down. A $4k job that is. What do you think of that, Honda?

disappointing, many issues since day one – Honda Helpers, if you are reading this please get in touch with me. I have a Honda Odyssey Luxury that I have purchased brand new late 2012. I have had a few issues with the car before but only decided to write a review following the most recent one. I was driving home doing 90km/h when I noticed I could not turn the steering wheel and the… Read more
electric power steering wheel indicator light came on. I managed to pull over having difficulties controlling the car and closely avoiding the accident. I was assisted by my insurer’s road side assist team and was told that the failure most likely relates to the faulty electric power steering module. Because it was weekend the car was towed to the towing company’s holding yard and on Monday to my mechanic.
I am still terrified that these things could happen and that the same will occur again. I have contacted Honda to ask them if they have had similar problems reported before. I did not get the answer to that question, however, I was told that I would have to bring the car to their dealership for further assessment. My main concern is that the power steering failure is an extremely high risk to safety and that there are other vehicles with a possibility of experiencing the same problem resulting in injuries or death. I cannot see myself not doing anything about this and will try to talk to Honda further to make sure that what I have experienced does not happen to someone else.
Im not sure if I should contact Honda again offering them to check the vehicle at the mechanic’s site or tow it at their expense.
I had other problems with the car immediately after purchasing it. In its second week, the engine light came on, the car started vibrating and could not go more than 40km/h. I was told that the Honda service department found that there was a misfire in the cylinders, removed the spark plugs, fuel filter and drained the fuel filter. They told me that the cause of the problem was the bad batch of fuel. Following this, I approached the Woolworths (Caltex) Petrol Division whose petrol we had used for all our three cars. Their site records were checked showing zero water present in the petrol storage tanks. Clearly the problem I had related to the vehicle itself and not the petrol used.
I lost confidence in the car and am of the opinion that I was sold a lemon.
I also reported the problem with the tank capacity, after the fuel light indicator comes on showing that the car can travel only around 50 additional kms, I was never able to add more than 42 liters of fuel although the claimed tank capacity is 55l.
Positives: The car’s city fuel consumption is reasonable while the highway consumption is great for the vehicle of this side.

Good people mover but some shortfalls – Have the VTi-L of this car purchased 2018. Very decent car and good for families. Seating room is very generous and it’s easy to drive since the profile is very much manageable. Doesn’t feel like driving anything more than a large sedan. Engine power is decent albeit a little noisy. Not really powerful enough but decent for city driving. We… Read more
have the three rows up. Two child seats in the back means the middle seat is unusable.
Furthermore the boot space is severely limited with the back seats up. This is exacerbated if you have the car seat anchors because they cross the boot space and attach to the back. It means if you have two car seats, the anchor straps get in the way of using it for storage or carrying things. In most cases it’s marginally enough for grocery shopping but anything more means you have to give up one of the passenger seats.
Sliding doors are a nice feature on both sides. The middle row of seats are the best in the car and if you only use the middle row seats, you can push the seats back for massive leg room.
Good features: - keyless entry and start - automatic sliding doors - sedan feeling driving
For value the car has some glaring features missing.
Bad parts:
The centre command console does not support Apple CarPlay or android auto. Means if you are relying on the internal navigation, you have the deal with the clunky, slow, and confusing Honda system. It’s astounding that this feature couldn’t be added since the car has two USB connectors and other cars such as the civic is almost using the same console.
The car comes with automatic lights but does not have automatic rain sensors.
The car doesn’t have automatic locking.
The car fuel tank is rather small at about 55L or so.
Australian models don’t have the option for an automatic boot door so you’ll be dealing with having to lift the heavy boot door.
Not sure if other people movers suffer from this issue but clearance of the doors is an issue. You have to make sure you park far enough from the kerb or risk having the sliding doors open and scrap.
Seems the model desperately needs to be updated to the model found in the US markets with the redesigned cabin and larger engines.
Thanks Simon for the time to share you candid review and… Read more

Disappointing Warranty and Customer Service – Very disappointed with Honda customer service and warranty (or lack of). I have a Honda Odyssey that I purchased brand new in 2015. This car had more issues than my previous cars, considering some were bought 2nd hand, that is saying a lot. Apart from the car quality, my main issue is Honda's warranty, or lack thereof, as the customer… Read more
representative I corresponded with, merely dismissed what a normal car owner would have expected to be covered by the warranty. In my recent servicing, Honda has claimed that the following items (a) warped rotors (b) defective washer nozzle, are considered normal wear and tear so won't be covered by warranty. The car is driven just 10000 km a year and in normal conditions. I never encountered in my more than 25 years of driving these type of issues, yet encountered it in this Honda Odyssey.
Perfect people mover wagon – My pearl white 2007 Honda Odyssey Luxury is the best car for the buyer who is looking for a people mover but don’t want the big feel and high roof of a van. Plenty of space in the 3rd row seats for kids and teens, but not quite suitable for adults, although why would an adult be sitting in the far back anyway? seat heaters, electric adjustable driver’s seat, electric folding 3rd row seats, 6-disc drive, and an opening sunroof. Standard features include air-con all the way through to the back, seperate fan speed controls for 2nd and 3rd row seats, wood trim interior, and a 6 speaker surround-sound system. The stock speakers produce impressive bass and overall a very good car everything-wise including engine in all aspects. Great car!
Japanese luxury and reliability – Have owned this car just on 10 years now and just hit 330000, had 69000 when I bought it and it hasn't missed a beat, I'm a cleaner and travel all around Brisbane every week, this car works hard, apart from regular servicing brake pads and tyres nothing has ever gone wrong, and I just love the creamy leather interior and wood grain, if I was ever to replace this car it would be with another Odyssey, you really can't beat Japanese reliability. Rather disappointing for a Honda Car. Number 2 problem has got to do with the gear transition during accelerating and decelerating. You can feel a slight jerk everything the gear changes. Unbelievable that technicians at Honda North can't solve this problem.
Perfect family car – Absolutely the best family car (with young kids) for many reasons. I have 2 car seats for my kids and i love that i can slightly recline the seats for when they fall asleep so their head isn't resting on their knees. Great package, highly reliable – We purchased our car 2nd hand but with a full service history. The car is. 11 years old with nearly 400,000km (yes that's a lot). extremely well thought out apart from the top tether straps for kids seats passing over the heads of the 3rd row. Nonetheless we don't actually use the 3rd row anyway and we easily fit 3 full size kids seats in the middle row. You can also have isofix seats in the two outside middle row spots. Not sure on middle spot. We usually have a decent amount of weight in the car and our fuel economy hovers around the 9.5 Lt/100km mark using e10 fuel.
The aircon is great, especially with the seperate rear fan and multiple rear air outlets. The car is fine for long trips, quite comfy (we have leather seats). With the 3rd row seats folded there's tons of room in the back. I'd be happy to recommend this car to anyone that wants a cheap family hauler and isn't concerned about having an SUV. We basically treat the car as a station wagon. Have used the 3rd row seats maybe once. Btw they fold up or stow away electrically at the push of a button, very nifty.
Another handy feature is being able to use the remote key lock to wind down all the windows after you unlock the car, great for a hot day. It's not exactly a hot rod but has plenty of power for overtaking and getting up to speed on highway merging etc. The cruise control is super responsive so you can set it on the highway and just adjust your speed up and down at the press of a button, easy. I'm 6'3" and big (120kg) and I have no problem fitting in the front seats.
The service interval is 10,000km/6 months but as it's got so many kms I do it every 5,000km with 5W-30 full synthetic oil VTEC requires clean high quality oil.
It requires a top up of around ½ litre of oil during this time. For an engine with closer to half a million kms that's pretty damn good. Also as the auto gearbox isn't serviceable I do a drain and refill of the transmission fluid every 20,000 kms. This replaces about ⅓ of the fluid. You must use Honda genuine fluid. The Odessey is the last of the Honda's still built in Japan and you can tell, their is clearly pride taken in building a solid well made extremely reliable vehicle.
Very disappointing electronics/console – I accidentally left my key and fob in the garage, used push button start and drove to my destination 20 minutes from home with no audio or digital alert from the car. Had to taxi home to get the key! Also the Bluetooth is dysfunctional and the maps is not user friendly. Thermometer is often several degrees incorrect. All are consistent with the… Read more
manufacturers specs so if you’re after a car with great console features go for a different brand! Otherwise a nice car to drive.
good car but a couple of problems – So we travel a lot and this car is sooooo reliable. Only two things have become a problem. Firstly the fake leather is rubbish and falls apart on the luxury model i own. Secondly the rear suspension has become so soft that each set of tyres has worn the inside tread out from bottoming out inside the wheel well. Admittedly we have put some heavy loads in the car for long distance travel ie a car fridge, luggage but only two or three people. Show details
Problems I have faced with my Honda odyssey - and my frustrations with the level of customer service – I am having troubles with my car and would like to find out if anyone has had a similar issue and can offer any advice. reset itself intermittently, and every time it did so it would wipe out anything stored on it, reset the radio and also lose bluetooth and radio while it resets.
I reported the problem to the dealer who changed the unit, but the problem reoccured again.
This time, I raised a concern with Honda, and have been going to and fro on this matter.
On Honda's advice, the dealer also changed a few electrics behind the unit, and ran the car for a couple of days and then returned it to me stating all is fixed.
After a couple of days, the problem again reoccured. I contacted Honda australia and advise them of the situation.
Honda, now tells me that given the issue has not occurred in the presence of their technician there is nothing more that can be done and the dealer will monitor the issue until it can be reproduced.
Given the problem is intermittent, I don't believe this is going to be an easy task. Also, since both the unit and the electrics behind have been changed, and the problem still persists, I am beginning to think that there is a fault with the car.
Has anyone had a similar problem and how have you approached resolving the issue.
I am not really happy with the level of service offered by Honda australia, although the dealer has been pleasant and tried to do everything they could.
Given this car is still under warranty, I was expecting Honda to at least take the car and put it through a number of tests to stress the car out and see if the problem can be reproduced. But, this is not happening.
If you have experienced a similar issue please comment and let me know how I could approach this.
I am thinking of taking it to consumer affairs but want to know whether i should go further.

battery in this car is very poor, I feel as if I change it more than most people would change their battery. I do not leave the car running for long periods, barely have the air con on but I do listen to music of the stereo a lot. I am not sure if that would do anything to battery but is very odd that a flat battery occurs quite frequently.
Also, I feel as if the car is extremely fragile and poorly built in the sense of ergonomics and practicality. Be careful of practically any driveway as this car loves to scrape across almost every drive way and speed bump I go pass.
It's a good car but definitely needs heeappppsss of work to make it practical and safer to drive.
