Fuel economy worse than a V8 – Had my 2000km 2013 V240 4x4 trayback for two weeks now, very disappointed in its fuel economy at 14.5L to 100km when they they advertise them at doing 10.5L to 100km. This works out at 16 mpg, I've had V8 engines doing way more than this. I really can't understand why its using so much fuel as it's only a Lancer motor, where did they go wrong
- Transmission: Manual
- Badge: V240
- Cab: Single cab
- Drive: 4WD
i get 9.5 to 10 klms per litre that is close to the advertised mileage. I would suggest you have a heavy right foot take off you steel caps and drive to the vehicles abilities would be a good place to start.
fit a snorkel and remove the pipe moulding from within the lower airbox housing. I have a v240 and get 660km per tank around town.
Have heard snorkel makes a big difference. Fair call, forcing the air thru has to reduce fuel consumption. They still use this motor in the current express vans. Thats the reason i bought one, wanted van, kensells mitsubishi in tamworth said No! Go to the coast to buy one. Nothing like lousy service to push you to rethink, same motor better gearbox roomier cabin greater payload and $7000 less, didnt need to be too sharp to come out in front. And 3 greatwalls later still smiling.
Thank you Bryan, but those days have gone, I'm 58 now, not 28. Also thank you to Craig and funbuggin2 for your input, good information, much appreciated, do any of you know if I can reduce the running temperature, as it runs just over half, my mechanic suggested to change the thermostat so it would increase the water flow and reduce the temperature by 5 degrees, your thoughts on that would also be appreciated.
Sorry to impose Charles but I strongly suggest you find another mechanic, The V240 isn't some old Kingswood, modern cars are very finely tuned to precise standards. The thermostat serves a very important function by reducing water flow leaving it in the radiator longer which in turns cools the coolant which makes the car run cooler. I strongly suggest you have a good long look at the radiator epically the gap between the condenser and radiator sometimes this gap gets filled with leaves and bugs reducing the airflow over the radiator. I would also consider you look at any optional extras you may have had fitted Bull-bars, spotlights etc these can also reduce airflow causing temps to raise. If none of the above solves your issue you could consider adding another thermo fan perhaps at the front blowing into the condenser and radiator. That is of course if the car is actually running hot, have you taken real world readings of the temperatures? Perhaps your temp sensor is faulty?
My Great Wall v240 tray back is 2.5 years old 53000 k still on original tyres. Only had regular service by my dealer.
