The reason was less about the hot water system itself and more about the direction we're taking with the house. We're adding solar and battery storage and wanted to move away from relying on bottled gas. After a few too many moments of discovering the gas bottle was empty at exactly the wrong time, I decided it was worth looking at alternatives.

I spent a fair bit of time researching heat pumps before settling on the iStore 270. There were plenty of options available, but this one seemed to strike a good balance between performance, reputation and value.

It's still early days, but so far it's been delivering plenty of hot water for our household and has integrated nicely into our plans to make better use of renewable energy. One thing I've noticed is that I no longer think about hot water at all—which is probably the best compliment you can give a hot water system.

The installation was carried out by JR Gas & Water, who were professional and easy to deal with throughout the process.
