I’m writing this review while I sit for an hour or more waiting for this ryobi piece of it to cool down so I can restart it, it just will not start hot. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise. The big ryobi mob in peakhust, Sydney, charge you $50 just to look at it and tell you nothing wrong. Looks like Ryobi is excrement from inception and… Read more

design all the way to the retailer, Mitre 10 , peakhurst who after 2 weeks of purchase told me to bu##er off. Not responsible, go see Ryobi around the corner, BUY RYOBI AT YOUR PERIL!

Absolutely rubbish, hopeless start & on a small front yard used maybe every 3rd week has only lasted just under 3 years. Very very hard to start when not new & the clutch has also gone now. Dont waste your money. Find a better brand. Show details

Painful – Utterly useless. Spent fortunes on constantly replacing the bump feeders which would also constantly jam and chew up the line quickly. Noisy but weak revs with failing performance. Clunky to get into most usual places which normally need to be trimmed around an average normal yard. Gutless piece of crap I have wasted too much time with. Bunnings… Read more

pedaling crap which once had a decent reputation consumers trying to save some money. Unfair and un-Australian. Shame on Ryobi and shame on 'Bummings Wormhouse'. Minus 5 if I could rate that low.

Smoking waste of money. Bunnings staff a waste of time too! Not helpful at all – Had for 8 months, used only 3-4 times. Machine started smoking with burnt plastic smell. After this once going again would cut out after 1 min. Screws that hold the petrol tank on way too hot to touch! Surely very dangerous! Show details

This thing will drive you nuts – It is insane the number of steps you have to jump through to get this thing started. My mower, which is 15 years old, starts first pull of the cord. This thing has three different choke settings. There are 8 steps for a cold-start, 4 steps for a hot-start. One of the steps is "Wait 10 seconds". Why on earth am I waiting 10 seconds to start my… Read more

line trimmer. I'm not launching a missile. You know, after following all these steps for a cold-start, it is still 50:50 whether it is going to start.

I think Ryobi knew they had designed and built a lemon. So they thought -" how can we disguise that this a pig to start. Oh, lets put easy start in the name."

Folks. Save your pennies and by a Makita. This thing will drive you nuts.

Engine issues – Had this model originally for 6 years and have 3 attachments so wanted to replace with exact one. New one lasted less than 2 months 2nd one 10 minutes..... obviously an issue with the model and build quality and to top it off they only will replace like with like so have to keep getting a replacement of thus dodgy model. Oh well 2 year replacement… Read more

from date of replacement I may never have to buy a new one, just keep going through these (%$#@&) models. Just a waste of my time!!!!

3rd one in three months – Have used Ryobi petrol trimmers (curved shaft) for over 20 years. First one was great - lasted 10 years, 2nd about 8 years, 3rd about 4 years and numbers 4, 5 and 6 about 3 months in total. A glutton for punishment I know but I was reluctant to throw away the Ryobi attachments I had bought over the years. But obviously the latest ones have… Read more

something major wrong with the carby because after 2 or 3 uses from new, they are, or almost, impossible to start. I got mine from Bunnings and they have been very good at replacing the faulty ones but my capacity for punishment has been reached. Time to admit defeat and move on to a brand that lasts more than 3-4 weeks.

This thing sucks – If you like spending 20 minutes trying to start the thing, cutting your knuckles and leaving you wanting to put a hole in the wall this is the product for you. Easy start my [Word Removed] Show details

Correcting those starting issues – To fix those hard starting issues you need change the carby or rebuild it with a repair kit. Both items from China and for little money. It seems there is a fault with the fuel pump diaphragm. I think some of them were damaged by the manufacturer during assembly. [ my own opinion ] Mine was and it was always difficult to start. Secondly ignore… Read more

the factory instructions via that crazy sticker on the air filter. Cold start procedure is thus. A couple of pumps on the fuel bulb or until full fuel is seen inside, one pull of starter rope on full choke full throttle, [where engine should at least fire] then one pull half choke full throttle. And yes this machine is heavy, awkward and down on power by comparison, but it is also cheaper. Noise level is lower than my other unit and it's only used on a normal house yard albeit with lots of edges. Line head is bulky but works ok however I'm going to fit a lighter aftermarket unit which should help with the power output. Replaced the fuel tank with a unit from Bunnings. Cheap price, but you've got to have patience re supply time. Cheers all.

Worst product ever bought. No customer service either – Bought because it specifically said easy start. Absolutely not easy start, has to buy additional started machine then a battery power for that too, ridiculous. Now head is not spinning after less than 2 months use. Have tried to contact Ryobi, never hear back from them. Big regret buying this. Show details

Runs Well Till Poor Design Fault Kicks In – I have used this whipper for almost 3 years around my garden. Using the the easy tool it has started 2nd or 3rd when ever being used. It's easy to use & the line system is easy to refill. And now the BUT, It has a built in Design Fault. Poor built quality. Parts hard to find – Mine broke down after less than two years. Upper shaft connected to clutch down worn out that easily. Poor built quality, made in china. For a price that cheap, I guess you get what you paid for. Show details

Great trimmer for the price – For the $180 i spent it is a decent trimmer, starts easy, people state that it bogs down but mine only has trouble at full throttle for the first 5 seconds or so until it starts feeding fuel to the motor properly, best to warm it up first, which is very quick, bump feed works after 3 years of use I can safely say good value for money. I abuse it and edge very thick grass and it is still going strong. Show details

When works its good – As listed below this is my exact problem Now it will not operate on full throttle (engine bogs down) and as such it is unusable. According to many web sites this is caused by the carburetor (engine starving of fuel). I have only ever used unleaded fuel mixed with synthetic 2 stroke oil at 50:1 as per instructions and have probably only even used… Read more

Lasted 30 months and now won't operate on full throttle - not recommended – Until yesterday I considered my Ryobi RLT254FCDSN to be a good line trimmer. Usually very easy to start and plenty of power. Now it will not operate on full throttle (engine bogs down) and as such it is unusable. synthetic 2 stroke oil at 50:1 as per instructions and have probably only even used it a maximum of 15 times. The spark plug is clean and the air filter also is clean and always stored in my garage and well looked after (it still looks new). This is totally unsatisfactory service and now out of warranty by just 6 months (purchased around July 2017). At $189 it is not good enough. As such I cannot recommend this line trimmer.

Superb - premium quality – This line trimmer is simply superb. After purchasing a poor quality one last year, I got this one after a bit of research. The build is high quality, it doesn’t use anywhere as much line and it’s got great fuel economy. What more could you ask for?
