Avan Ray 402 – Bought a new Avan Ray 402 early this year with extras- - and have just finished its first major trip over the Nullarbor and back, some 9,000 k's. I did add Purple Line movers and love them for moving the van around. Nothing broke, no leaks, set up and and pack up- a breeze- Love the idea of the slide out bed, it works well . the van could do with a slight redesign to improve some interior aspects. By just slight moving forward the clothing cupboard at the sake of the side seating, some 4 cm and ditto the rear dining seat (and a hinged back rest rather than a fixed timber backrest ) could vastly improve the width size of the bed used. Not sure why the van has such bright lighting in the bedroom area. One thing I dislike is the table on a post, your remove it and put in the smaller post to convert to a bed, there has to be a better way than this cumbersome method.

Ray 402 - love it – We bought this van new in 2006 and we love it. We had to replace the electro block ($2000) about 4 years ago but that's the only thing that has gone wrong. We only use our van in autumn-spring but we use it a lot and so we're VERY glad of the fibreglass slide out as opposed to the canvas ones that we see around us. It has as much room if not… Read more

more than the average 16ft van because none of the interior space is taken up with the (very comfy) QS bed.

Love our Avan Ray 11’6 – very roomy layout, and can sleep 4 people! Easy to tow , quick to set up. My only disappointment has been addressed by putting an aircon on the roof !  Show details

Do not buy this caravan, customer service appalling – It took 71/2 months from ordering our Ray 402 until pick up in July 2016. Since then we have used it for 65 nights and it has been in the repair shop for 27 days. Leaking during rain on bed then hot water service leaked all over floor and tomorrow it goes back to AVan. Woke at 4am Saturday morning to a soaked bed and mattress. Water coming in… Read more

down wall and roof over bed. Call it the Titantic of caravans.

AVan Adelaide's comment on Saturday to my phone call was "we do not make them they are made in Victoria "

Taking the van back tomorrow for more repairs, they will have to replace mattress and compensate for a booked trip that is now cancelled.

Timber will start rotting soon.

March 24th 2018 Update: Further trouble with pur AVan Ray

Last Thursday 22/3/2018 while traveling to Melbourne our second hot water service was noticed to be leaking, had to take it straight to Avan to get 3rd hot water service fitted. We have used this van for 90 days and in for repair for over 40 days. This morning after one hour of rain we have a wet mattress at both ends, it's third leaking problem yet Avan cannot do anything to help us. No we cannot speak with the company's CEO or owner. Bring it back on Monday. They won't supply a dry van or bed.

Grand Prix weekend no accommodation available.

AVan has NO Customer Service. Our AVan is a $43000 Lemon.

Accurate tare weight? – How much does The Ray really weigh (tare)? Weigh it, you will get an unpleasant surprise! Plated at 1280kg, it actually weighs 1500kg which means instead of being able to load 300kg, legally only 80kg can be added, not even enough allowance to carry water, let alone clothes and food!

works well for us – We have had a ray 14 for several years now, having bought one second hand. we have had no problem with the hinge above the bed leaking and no sign of the previous people having done anything to it. We are really happy with the caravan since it gives us lots of room without the main bed taking it all up. As grandparents it is good to have the bunks… Read more

for little ones too. We added a safety bar to the top one from Ikea which just clips on. the size and space it gave. we have had no problems.
