Washes well, but it has had its problems including bad build quality – We purchased this AEG L87480FL 8kg machine in March 2015. I have seen other reviews here and can testify also that the front panel rusts, the washing dispenser leaks, and internally rusting from the internal leaking through the wash dispenser, and the door getting jammed and wont open. AEG didnt care that the rusting can not possibly be the fault… Read more

of the user as we cannot get inside the machine nor how could we be possibly put water inside the machine to rust internal parts!

There have been many problems, some which you can fix yourself if you research, such as taking out the bottom plug and cleaning debris from the pump or how to fix the Jammed front door.

I was able to strike a fantastic tech that said he will not only replace the front panel (which we paid for), but he replace the front of the machine as well as that was also rusting through no part of our own, all as warranty though it was out of warranty. He also gave advice to spray the front panel with lanolin (from bunnings) and this has stopped rust from forming on the control panel. We also did this to anything stainless steel such as our dishwasher door and it has remained as new.

Overall the machine does wash well, but its been several years of problems. You cant put more than 4 big towels as it can ruin the machine and will wobble like crazy because the load is too heavy. We used the delicate cycle for most washes and everything comes out clean. Quick wash works well and the cottons works well but its a very long cycle. People that have gone front top loaders to front loaders have to understand that it will take considerably longer to wash clothes.

Very hesitant to buy AEG again due to the obvious problems that I have stated here as well as the same problems others have stated here in the reviews.

Utterly Dissapointed with all the AEG assurences of quality (see attached statements from sites) – We purchased a new AEG frontload washing machine 29th December 2016 for $1,699.00 as all the AEG sites offer assurances as to the design, reliability, functionality and them build the S/S drum mounting frame out of what can only be described as "MUCK METAL". The metal has corroded away and lost it's structual strength with cracks on the 3 support… Read more

arms (see photos). When I contacted AEG 1300 363664 line on 8/8/22 and explained that the S/S drum was loose and could be moved by hand I was asked what the purchase date was and told it was out of warranty as Warranty was only for 5 years and told to look up AEG spares or contact their local repair company Alpine. We are pensioners and needed a machine we purchased another. Realising the AEG had failed I pulled the machine apart to find the problem and found the 3 arm support chassis had cracked. My complaint is that why would you have a material that can only just outlast the warranty period when the rest of the machine seems to be of lasting materials and design.

Rusted front plate in no time – Rusted front plate in no time and no one interested, didn't even get a response t my feedback. I see the model has been discontinued, is that why?? But I am sure it will be the same with other models. Terrible quality for the price. My old Bosch was rust free after 13 years. Show details

Continual mould problems – Overall I’ve been very happy with the way this machine washes, cycle times, delicate options and more. However, I’ve had continual problems with mould. The technician came out ages ago and replaced the seal and told me everything would be okay, but my problems have continued. I have just returned from being away for 5 days - door (as usual after… Read more

EVERY wash) and the detergent tray open (as usual) to make sure the machine airs and I’ve come back, done a load of white towels that are studded with black mould and I am devastated. I do not use liquid detergent, I leave everything open, I regularly check the filter, I run the 95deg cycle every month and I am so disappointed that an expensive machine from a quality manufacturer like this continues to have this problem. I’m speechless.

Expensive to buy and continually repair – $2000 purchase price, $300 drain pump repair, $480 main something board repair... it’s a fair amount of money for 7 years of use. The spin cycle has always been much louder than advertised (whisper quiet, lol, salesman) and the cycles are mostly 3 hours. Another brand for me! Show details

New Machine currently dying – Purchased a brand new AEG, that's right brand new, not reconditioned, less than 12 months ago to replace trusty Fisher & Paykel top loader. Never again. AEG Front Loader Review – We have had our AEG front loader washer for about 2 years. It replaced a Miele that we had for about 18 years. I have already noticed that rust is appearing on the front pannel under the brushed metal face plate. Love this new edition to the family! – Very happy with the standard of wash, our clothes come out clean and fresh plus it's super quiet! Cycles can be quite lengthy, however there is a 20 minute quick wash for those days when you've left your work uniform until the last minute. The refresher cycle is a handy bonus!  Show details

Worst washing machine I have ever purchased – This is the biggest lemon of a washing machine for the expensive price paid. I would not recommend to anyone. Well made machine with plenty of features and easy to use – Very quiet machine, easy to use controls which allow selection of a preset wash program, and then it can be customised, eg. Faster wash time which is less economical or select a longer wash time which is more economical, select faster spin, adjust temperature etc. Has extra large door makes loading easy. Has a steam feature which refreshes clothes, and a delay start feature. Wash results are good. Found AEG very good company to deal with  Show details

Love it! – We love our trusty AEG!!! We made the switch to AEG after our Samsung Washer-Dryer was a complete and utter lemon! Brilliant! – Five years ago we bought a Bosch which turned out to be a complete lemon. When we finally replaced it with an AEG we realised exactly what a good machine should be like. Overrated sales pitch on this brand – Hi Just read "Taking it too the tip" I can so identify with this post. I've had exactly the same problems. Doesn't spin properly so stuff comes out sopping, therefore does not drain well therefore water must sit in it....MMMM Despite cleaning the filter (at the bottom) every month as was directed by a service tech and running bleach through… Read more

it regularly it is now full of black mold.

This mould is going nowhere.

You can shove all the Epsom salts as you want in this machine but it does nothing. Yes I've wiped it out yes I've scrubbed. Cleverly they have put the solution back to me saying that I can try another product so long as its bottle says it won't hurt the rubber which is now black anyway.

Yes lets leave the door open after every wash as I do mostly. Again this does not stop the mould.

Yes I should wipe the whole thing out after a wash....??? Really its not a F1 car...its a washing machine.

I was mortified to read, in taking it to the tip, that this is an older model as I've only has mine for just over 2 years. I don't want to spend another $350 on a seal....that just throwing money away...

The guys at Harvey Norman told me this was top of the range and it was. I bought a dishwasher and a washing machine. This washing machine alone was $1900....so not cheap.

The dishwasher never dried the dishes (yes I had technicians out) Eventually my mum hated it that much she helped me replace it with a a Miele. Let me say it is an entry level Miele but it works great. (Pretty much the same as I forked out, $1099 for the AEG in the first place).

I am sick of calling the call center and being told that running Epsom salts through this will fix it...nothing will get rid of the mould. Its in every pipe, filter, the detergent basket.

All my washing smells and my youngest son is now getting alergies (asthma) all the time. Which I can't directly link to it but I have some suspicions. I have been putting all the washing out in the sun to try to alleviate the situation.

Lucky for me I'm still able to be home with the kids. What a nightmare if you were working full-time as I will need to be doing soon.

I'm less than impressed with this product.

PS I live in Adelaide the driest state in the nation so mould is never a problem in any appliance ever....

MMM what to do....

cheers

July 7th 2017 Update: Now its rusting through the body

Hi

Now I have rust where the detergent is. I'll call AEG again. I think the issue maybe the water must come out too fast and splashes. I've done so many things and taken all the advice. It's crazy.

I'm worn out now. So must the technicians be. On the upside they do come out.

But a 2 year old washing machine rusting through the front plate is ridiculous.

It's tiring.

Cheers

Monday so I called aeg and was told that they have loaded it onto the Monday truck and they could take it out and put in on for the following Saturday.

I told the service centre ladie that the reason we went for this machine was due to the delivery date because we where stuck, having 2 kids and no washing machine for that long is just stupid.

The call centre ladie told me oh well it's not going to happen.

I told her we would be not buying the machine if we don't get it when we where told and her response was that's too bad sorry to hear that, she could not care less so called Harvey Norman and they contacted aeg sales rep to fix the problem and they told Harvey Norman it was not going to happen.

So I have now cancelled the order and now have to mess around it going back to Harvey Norman and getting something else organised.

Worst service I have ever got now reading these reviews it's probably a good thing we didn't get it.

load of washing and that IS ridiculous when we are busy family. I'm sorry that I have put up with it for so long.

Also the seal is disgusting!! It didn't take long for it to get mouldy and gross. I have used so many cleaning products to get rid of it to no avail. They say to leave the door open after each wash and wipe the seals. But like I said before, who has the time to do all that with a busy family. Also, kids are running inside and outside through the laundry. Not practical to leave the door open of the machine.

For the last 6 months, the clothes...ESPECIALLY the whites are coming out of the machine with black flakey crap all over them. Have trouble shooted with epsom salt hot water washes to no avail. I don't have an instantaneous hot water system to repeat this 4 times as the repair man said to do. We run out of hot water every day from our family just showering and now I'm supposed to put it on a 3 hour 95% hot water wash, 4 times arrrgghhhhh!!! The lovely repair man that came out today, told me these things are unfortunately not a warranty issue and it will cost me $560 to repair. I'm DEVO....3 years I've had this machine and paid $1800 and the warranty is worth nothing. I honestly feel ripped off and I find no point in giving a positive rave about it. I WILL NOT recommend this machine to anyone...very sad :-((((((

And just to add one more thing. When I rang customer care about it, they were lovely in trying to help me troubleshoot but she also told me that the product and serial numbers matched a much older model. So Domayne sold me a superseded model....Hmmmmm....dodgy....Another reason to feel ripped off :-(((

It leaks and has rusted with a year of purchase – I thought I was buying a quality appliance and I'm disappointed with this purchase. I bought it at the end of Decrmber 2014 and it sounded brilliant. The not good

It leaks, it seems the seal around the door isn't very good because there are streams of water on the outside of the door and on the outside of the machine after each wash

The end of cycle beeping

Cleaning the filter is a pain

Long wash cycles even on time save

there is rust on the front left hand panel due to the leaking

It has stopped working while washing clothes twice, I believe it was due to the anti flood function being triggered after googling

Duvet doesn't fit (double or queen)

Duvet Function Unable To Wash King-Sized Doona – Bought this machine end of last year, and so far, no complaints except for the Duvet function. Maybe the instruction manual should be more specific that it can only wash a doona COVER, rather than the doona itself.

Absolutely Hate it – This Heap of expensive rubbish was delivered last week, on Wednesday... Husband did first load and I worked at the weekend, Normally I could do 3 x loads of washing and have it on the line in 2 1/2 hours tops. woop-de-do to be perfectly honest I could have hand washed the entire load and got it on the line quicker.

I did end up finding an Eco saver function which got it down to 1 hour 8 minutes... I did ring AEG who explained about the favourites custom cycle feature... which my machine does not have! Only a couple of programs that will do cold water wash which I prefer, as I said utter rubbish, am bringing back in the top loader which is dying, selling this heap of crap and going back to buy another brand top loader.

Edited to add:-

I have now been using this washer for approx 5 weeks, and I am still totally disillusioned with it.

was going to wash the queensize doonah - if you wash a duvet/doonah on the special duvet function its maximum load is 2kg. what is the point of that if you purchase a 8kg machine?

I have been using the 20min cycle, husband complained because his shirts did not smell clean.

so therefore I use either the super Eco or Economy program - clothes are in need of ironing because they are totally creased.

Towels (I do not use fabric softener in machine and never have) are now like boards..... just wonderful

Would so love to string the useless salesman up that extolled the virtues of this machine, because he was obviously wrong.

Great wash – Easy to use when wishing to shorten programs. I was told about steam clean...fantastic. My husband and I use it on shirts and blouses and save dry cleaning time and money. We also got the dryer with stacking kit and saved space as our laundry is small. It is expensive for $1899. but there's 10% off with dryer. Love the 5 yrs warranty and free delivery/install. Maybe ours was just a lemon (replacement one works much better) – We purchased this washing after being told how good it was by the sales rep and also based on the fact that he said that AEG washing machines were not as bad as their dishwashers (We had previously had a really bad experience with an AEG dishwasher). After being delivered a day late, we finally got to try out the machine and after a few washes we… Read more ·  2

noticed that the clothes were not coming out clean (Most noticeable on the whites load). In fact some were coming out dirtier than when they went in, as if the dirt was being transferred from some clothes onto others.

We did these on the easy iron cycle, but then washed them again on the full cotton cycle, using the same powder as we did in our previous front loader. The results were no better.

We contacted AEG who said that we could not return it for a refund because we called them after 7.5 days and they only will take returns up until 7 days. We said that we were not happy and finally they said that they would send someone out to look at our machine, at our cost. (Finally we did not have to pay).

The serviceman came out and checked the machine out and agreed that it may be just a one off and that it should be replaced with a new one, and that AEG would contact us to arrange it. After five days of no contact, we finally contacted AEG again who said that they would not replace it and that they wanted to send out more people to look at it (A third day taking time off work). Who knows where the saga will go now.

Basically we expected the machine to wash as good as our seven year old machine that it was replacing.

And [name removed], we feel confident we know how to use the machine because when we first contacted AEG they tried to tell us how to use certain cycles, but on every cycle we had to correct their incorrect information.

Other things to note about the machine, the easy iron setting is a separate cycle not an option like it is on some other machines, and can only be used on 4kg loads.

Update:

AEG have finally replaced the machine and the new one washes much better. It is a little noisier than the first one but that is something that we can live with. The beeps at the end of the cycle work on this one (They did not on the first one).

We have not tried the easy iron cycle on the replacement one yet so I can't report on how well that cycle cleans.

I have updated the rating from one to four stars to reflect our opinion of the new machine. Five year warranty (If AEG ever honor it) AEG customer service is incredibly bad.
