I have never had an issue with it. I can do both my front and back lawn on a single charge.(150 SQ MTRS). Bought ii late 2019. Need to buy a new blade but otherwise very happy with the product. Show details
Very good while the battery is charged. I get about 15/20 minutes run time and it takes 12 hours to charge. To buy a replacement battery to keep as a second costs over $100 dollars. For an 80v mower I expected much much better. I can't recommend. Show details
More Rubbish For The Tip From Aldi – Less than 18 months in and battery no longer lasts the distance. Now only does half of what it use to before conking put. Even though both batteries state 82% when putting on to re-charge. I stopped buying Aldi electrical items and big ticket items years ago, but when I needed a new lawn mower, thought I'd give them ago. Never again. A lawn mower… Read more
at $299 is not cheap if it only lasts 18 months. There is 5 years warranty on lawn mower, but only 1 year on batteries. What good is a cordless electric lawnmower without batteries? And what good is a 1 year warranty on batteries when they no longer work properly after 18 months?
Another crap electrical product from Aldi. It's not cheap when it ends up in rubbish heap with a short life. My Victa cordless electric lasted 22 years. Then went on to do more after someone bought it and repaired. Aldi are contributing to the climate crisis with their cheap and nasty manufacturing which costs to produce, then with short life emds up as rubbish to dispose.
Aldi manufacture rubbish when it comes to electrics. DO NOT PURCHASE ELECTRICAL ITEMS OR BIG TICKET ITEMS FROM ALDI.
Where are my replacement parts sold? – It mulches well. It collects grass well and it also comes with a side Shute. However the after market parts are non existent. Therefore aldi should be banned from selling these products without such warnings. I took forever to find a spare battery to buy, luckily since now I can't find them anywhere now. I also need a replacement blade that I… Read more
can't find. 80v 2 amp hours is good but more amp hours will be better but you can't but that either. On a good note it's made me love electric mowers, I will never buy another petrol or aldi electric mower again.
CAN'T FIND A REPLACEMENT BATTERY FOR FERREX 80V MOWER – A normal, flat back yard, a 3-4yo mower, managed to buy an extra battery a year ago but can't find one now Also had to purchase a fan belt and replace the v-belt pulley on the motor shaft. Nothing but problems with this machine and now can't use it at all because we can't find a battery worldwide! Show details
Mower and Battery performs well though when the grass is a bit wet it stalls. Life cycle enhancement needs 2x4Ah Battery – The fact of the performance still fulfilling it's intended results is acceptable. But ALDI must look at providing an additional higher rated battery and/or charger as part of it's due diligence and service level interest. Right at the start when I purchased the unit I was interested in a spare battery and I hit a brick wall. Now that I have the… Read more
same problem and see that the product is discontinued is not an acceptable financial resolution and I will be hoping that ALDI helps me in sourcing a new additional higher Ah rated battery and charger unit as this will help environmentally in not having to dispose off the whole performing asset and also enhance the asset life cycle.
O.k.for the price – Bought this from Aldi in Feb.2021for $300.probably goes for about 45 mins.b4 needs recharging.then u have to wait another hour for it to recharge.still first electric mower so new experience. Show details
OK until you need repairs – Purchased 2 years ago and has provided good service on a 1000m2 block, especially after I purchased an extra battery. Catches OK and mulches quite well but not so good when grass is damp. Started having random stalling issues a few weeks back and then just stopped altogether. Contacted support and the eventual reply was to take it back for a… Read more
refund, which is a decent outcome. Unfortunately I have a spare $200 battery that I can not take back for a refund (now sold). It was worth it to get some experience for a first battery mower, but now I will purchase a more reputable model from from a dealer where I can get better support and a replacement should I need it during the warranty period as my grass is getting quite long now!
Great for the price – bought from aldi about a year ago $399, have a mixed lawn grass 380m sq to mow 60% flat the rest 20-30 degrees slop that gets mowed when its over grown by between 4-8 cm or starts to look crappy every 7-10 days summer 10-20 winter. both rear wheels engage for forward speed witch is a normal+ walk pace for me 6ft tall. used as a mulching mower… Read more · 1
works perfect. battery last for about 35-45min enough to mow front or back lawn with power to spare or both just before battery dies. recharge takes 1hr-1hr30mins from empty once you get used to the self propelled its a breeze to mow. start moving forward half a step while engaging forward thrust will save ware and tare on parts. a lot easer to push around once worn in. built like a real mower works like real mower,+ 80V Brushless V/S power - 2.0 Ah should have 3.0-4.0 Ah For the price a great mower...
Second Battery – I am trying to buy a spare battery but it costs $200.00 It only lasts 20 minutes. I just saw the whole mower (including battery and charger) for sale in my local Aldi for $300.00 I paid $400.00 for my mower. What a dud this purchase has turned out to be. Show details
Hopeless mower – I have only bought and used this mower not over three months. It worked fine for the two times I used it but the self propelling system is very weak. The third time I tried to use it with a fully charge battery, it refused to start no matter how many times I re-install the battery. Every is solid and well made including the battery and charger but… Read more
there seems to be a recurring fault with the starter system as I have already bought this mower twice and the first one would not even start with a fully charged battery. Compared with lesser specified battery operated mowers of other brands, nothing come close to the Ferrex in terms of power grunt and value in affordability but this is the only let down. I have bought and used a previous lesser model from Aldi which uses two 18V batteries but it has a narrower cut and not as powerful as the 80V Ferrex but it is still working beautifully for close on two years now. In general, no equipment I have bought from Aldi have failed as I believe in German engineering and thoroughness in their testing. But this is the only disappointment in equipment. The other is their mobile phone cards which are useless. I have no trouble in obtaining a full refund for the Ferrex mover.
Its a bit weak – Its a bit weak .No good on longer grass.Mow for 10 min charge batteries for 2 hours. Yawn.. nice on short grass . The wipper snipper that came with it is much the same . Might be ok for manscaping thats about it. Can I get my money back? Show details
battery – where can you get a battery? I have only used it once and the battery did not last very long at all. Can anyone recommend a contact for a second battery? I find the mower fine otherwise it is good on my grass yer I have a reasonable block and I need the charge to last longer Show details
Find out how ALDI Ferrex 80V Self Propelled Lithium-Ion Cordless Mower (Aug 2019, Oct 2020) compares to other Battery Lawn Mowers
Know better, choose better.
Battery Replacement Prohibitively Expensive – We bought our Aldi Mower August 2019 and have been delighted with it up until now (October 2020). The battery is dying and won't charge until it has cooled down. Or hold its charge for long. It has 1 year warranty. After Sales Support is by another agent called Positec Group. There is no contact with Aldi, only impartial, unconnected agents. … Read more
On my third call in 3 days, I received a call back when I asked for battery prices. $199 ea and $11 delivery. As the battery only lasted 13 months and is over half the cost of the mower, I will be buying another mower elsewhere. Petrol or electric cord. A friend has an excellent old Masport 4 stroke that he bought on eBay for $100. That seems the way to go.
Very Disappointing: everything was great except the woeful battery. Don't buy! – I bought this two weeks ago after it went on sale at my local Aldi, the last one available and I was estatic I actually managed to find one. It has a massive cutting width and catcher (51cm and 50L respectively - much better than most brand name competitors, and even those that can match are far more expensive eg the AEG at bunnings which is… Read more
basically $700-$800. Both these larger aspects mean less work mowing and less emptying the catcher. So full marks there. (Though the catcher I found never seemed to fill up as the inlet from the machine was much too narrow and not the best release mechanism, meaning a lot never came through to the catcher, which in turn mean quite a bit was spread over my lawn by default - so a bid shoddy there). It also was supposedly 'self-propelled' (though in reality didn't see any of that working as being a steel deck it is far heavier than most other battery mowers - I recall it weighing almost 50kg). But didn't really care for that as was happy to push. I just thought that with the large cutting width and large catcher it was easy, 'no-stinky odour-petrol mower-days'. Unfortunately though, after trying to mow my yard (350sqm) twice with it (ie still give it a go after the first failure) it still failed abysmally....the battery I found only lasted half hour, if that, meaning I could only cut a third my yard each time before I had to recharge (about 45 mins and boy does that charger hum with sound!
So overall Not happy Jane. I took it back to Aldi two weeks after purchase who, true to form, refunded me in full, no questions asked. Kudos to them.
I have to say I was beforehand warned by a family member not to buy it, because of the bad wrap/reputation generally battery and electrical mowers have against petrol ones, but also especially because of the low amps: a single 2.0Ah battery is shocking for a decent sized yard, which is what this mower had to power it. Don't think just because it says 80v that is somewhat more powerful than say a 36v working off a 4 or 5 ah battery. It's not. It's all about the ah - "amps" - the defining factor it seems in any battery mower.
So take note - for the $400 it costs (not cheap for Aldi mower standards), sorry but it it is not worth it, too expensive, and a real flop battery-wise.
It's a real shame as it would have been a dream if they did come with a higher amp battery, and also (foolishy forgotten or simply disregarded by Aldi) the possibility to buy a spare battery (I couldn't believe they didn't - I checked online for this and it seems they are available from a company named pascoes, who were selling them for a staggering $200 each - that's right, $200 simply for a battery, and when I reached the website they were all sold out....so couldn't help but think others had the same issues about being worried about a poor performing battery but who were obviously willing to pay $200 extra on top of the $400 they already paid for it in the store. That's $600. Sorry but for that money I would rather by a more reputable battery mower such as AEG RYOBI or VICTA which come with much better warranty as well. you can buy Bunnings most basic petrol mower (apparently decent) for less than $200. So go figure.....
You are better off spending it at bunnings Mitre 10 etc for one of their battery mowers which at least has a better warranty than Aldi's (this mower came with 1 year battery and charger warranty and 5 years on the actual mower machine which in itself spells trouble, as I would hope my mower, costing me $400, would last more than a year.
So sorry Aldi....you almost got it right to make it a dream mower, but really stuffed up on the battery. Do it again next time but please make it cheaper and please PLEASE spare offer batteries for sale!
ALDI Ferrex 80V Lithium-Ion 20" Brushless Lawn Mower – Despite a few negative reviews, I thought I'd give this mover a chance. Collected it from the store, a 40Kg box. This is a battery powered mower with a steel chassis! Unpacked and at first couldn't find the screws for the handles. But eventually found then in the battery box. I also charged the battery which was showing 3/4 charged. Now… Read more
fully assembled and charged, I set about mowing my 400 square metre lawn. My lawn is a mixture. One space of 150 metres is Santa Ana which is a fine leaf lawn and the other is Sir Walter Buffalo a course leaf lawn. Both lawns had been fertilized 3 weeks ago with heavy rain then days of sunshine. So it had grown well.
I set the height to only take the tips of the lawn leaving it with a good height for the coming summer. It had been mowed only 2 weeks before. I used the catcher. It "started" easily with about a one second delay after pulling up the handle. I tried the self propelled method at first but found the speed too slow for my liking. Nevertheless, it is easily pushed. When I had finished mowing both lawns, I had collected a very full catcher. And to my surprise the battery indicator showed I still had 3/4 charge!
I'm very very impressed. It mows well. The battery lasts. This is a solid mower.
Broken – I loved it while it worked, back in the drought when the grass wasn't growing much, then it broke. Appalling customer service from the Positec (Australian rep) and from Edgeworth Mowers (the repair agent). Should have saved my time and taken it straight back for a refund Show details
Cheap, Well made, battery life unaccpetable – Really well designed electric mower. Comfortable to manoeuvre not overly heavy. Performs well whilst the battery stays cool. the battery does deplete quite quickly in short to medium grass it will last approx 30 minutes. This is not exactly a huge issue if you have a small city yard, if you have a bigger suburban yard this may be annoying. It… Read more
takes me approx two charges to mow my block. Doesn't take too long to recharge with the included fast charger.
The biggest short fall this mower has is the battery overheats very quickly in medium length grass. This might be fine for southern states but for SE QLD and our humid summers where grass can grown inches overnight this product is not suitable.
It would be fine if the fast charger could "cool" the battery by only running the cooling fan when on charge and then when it returns to "normal" operating temperatures it can charge again.
I really wish this could have been a better product. It is the correct price point and really quite excellent build quality just the battery itself let's this product down.
Stopped working after 5 months - QLD repair centre cannot fix it – I purchased this at the end of August, it has been working very well but no longer starts. When I contacted the distributor they advised me to take the mower to Yamanto Mower Centre (QLD) which is a 40 minute drive for me. When I got to the repair centre I was advised by them that they can't repair it because it's electric. He also advised that he… Read more
has had a large number of them come back to him for various issues. It seems as though my only option now is to get a refund.
When it worked it worked well but to stop working after such a short period of time with no option to repair has left me very annoyed.
Not working... returned for a refund – Bought in November from local Aldi store. Easy to assemble and worked fine for a few times cutting fine leaves tiftuf grass on flat/levered grass areas 200sqm. Mow this area with once with a fully charged battery. Suddenly stopped working after a minute from start with a fully charged battery. Recharged battery again just in case. But did not start (clunks but the blade does not rotate). Show details
Good value. Good mower – Having previously owned a petrol self propelled mower which I almost had to run behind to keep up with I was a bit concerned that this one would be similar and was pleasantly surprised to find that the travel speed was perfect for me. Been using it for a couple of months and so far it's performed very well. It handles wet grass of a decent length… Read more
as well as runner grass without hesitation self adjusting motor cutting speed to suit. Mulches well, haven't used the catcher so can't comment on that. Appears well built and designed, not sure about the top plastic battery cover - UV stabilised? but it's good as the current battery charge lights can be seen through it. The battery doesn't last as long as I'd like so I've got into the habit of recharging it after mowing 4 small lawn areas and coming back later to finish the rest. I priced a new battery but when told it was almost $200 decided against it. Hopefully the battery that comes with the mower lasts longer than the warranty it comes with (12 months?).
Well made and great value – I got one of seven mowers available that sold in one minute! Easy to unbox and assemble and I was surprised at how well the mower is built - with a pressed steel deck it is a lot heavier and more sturdy than other battery powered mowers within $200 of Aldi's price. Like most mowers now, the catcher is heavy plastic top and bottom with mesh sides… Read more
and is quite large. The motor runs at 2,500 rpm and the 510 mm blade (20 inch) cuts and mulches well and the self-propelled drive is very simple and it "free wheels" when pushed normally that will mean less wear and tear when not being engaged. I find the self-propelled speed fairly fast but this is not a problem. I don't know the battery's full mowing life yet because I tried it shortly after I had mowed our lawn but it did quite a large area in 12 minutes with over half battery life showing but independent UK reviews rate the 80 volt battery and fan-cooled charger both well. UK reviews of Ferrex battery powered products including an earlier lawn mower were positive. Spare parts and batteries are available at Positec Australia.
October 3rd 2019 Update: More Impressed Now
I wrote my first review after I had used the Ferrex mower for its first use. I have now used it on three occasions and can now say that the 80 volt battery life is excellent and the motor has a great deal of power! I have three lawn areas on a 650 sq metre suburban block plus a long section of lawn nature strip and half of the lawn is on quite a slope. One charge does all of this lawn area easily with at least 25% of battery power left which has really pleased me. Our lawn is mostly kikuyu grass and can prove difficult to mow, but the Ferrex does this with ease. The motor cannot be stopped and the self-propelled drive does not impede its progress. The catcher works well and the mower can mulch well too. It is a big mower (510 mm cut) and it does our lawns quickly and I find that I engage the self-propulsion more than I expected to. I am more than pleased with it so far! Having used two-stroke mowers for sixty years, I am happy to turn to battery powered ones!
Lots of little issues, returned for a refund – The propulsion is one speed, driven from the cutting motor and is far too slow for me, then it's hard to turn as the axle is locked together. Without the drive in gear it's heavier to push than it should be as it's still turning some gears, this is a deal breaker. The charger died first charge, had light for a bit then no lights would light up.… Read more
80v is a gimmick as the Wh is an actual measure of energy. This is 144Wh while the 36v AEG mower is 216Wh so it'll last much longer and has potential for a more powerful motor (but I don't have specs on this). The motor seemed powerful but returned the mower before cutting any grass.

Can't buy parts anywhere and Aldi don't want to know about it.
