So disappointed as I have hardly used my machine, it went well for 4 times and then.... no tension possible, pulling the material, clunking noises!!! It looked to be such a good buy. No more. Too long ago for a refund!!! Show details
Terrible machine – Purchased this machine in June 2024 from Aldi in Warnnanbool while on holidays. It would have to be the worst machine I have ever used. Have broken 3 packs of needles, thread continuously breaking and knotting and despite constant cleaning and oil will not sew through light fabric. Don’t waste your time or money. Most frustrating piece of equipment I’ve ever owned. Show details
Poor product – Bobbin case popped out first time using it. Second time trimming went out. Third time Bobbin case popped out, now not usable, can't even hand stitch without the bottom Bobbin case failing. Show details

this machine doesn't work – This machine is hopeless. Please save your money. It kept jamming for no apparent reason. We had to dismantle the bobbin holder several times as the needle became jammed. When we did manage to get it to stitch the thread was all bunched up. We were unable to use this machine to sew anything. We are purchasing an alternative and throwing this one in the bin. I would prefer to give it no stars but that wasn't an option. Show details
Best 99 dollars ever – I mostly use it to patchwork and quilt with it but not big stuff. This is my go to sewing machine. It goes to sewing classes, patchwork quilting camp. I recently bought a new one with more features but this little one is the best. I would average using this sewing machine every week since buying it. Show details

Years of excellence use – I'm a patchworker & quilter. I've taken it on 3 quilt retreat of week long & not had a problem. I've taken it to workshop classes and not had any problems. I'm so happy with it. It was my second machine ever in 40 years of sewing and excellent value for money. Show details
Do Not Buy A Stirling Black Edition Sewing Machine From Aldi – It was cheap $99.00. But no matter what i have tried i cannot get the tension right ive adjusted both the screw in the bobbin holder and the tentioning knob....it makes a clonking noise by the bobbin and makes serious looping of thread underneath. Absolutely perfect – Absolutely love this machine ive had sewing machines before but this 1 is so easy to thread even numbered to help u amazing so glad i brought it Show details
Still going strong after 14 years! – I bought the Aldi Sterling overlocker back in 2009. It was the last one - reduced to $99. It has been a truly great workhorse - only needing oiling and lint cleaning on the occasion and very easy to thread. I’ve flogged this machine with years worth of use and it still keeps going. I also haven’t had to change the cutting blade much to my… Read more
surprise, it’s also never had to be fixed or had parts replaced with or without warranty. I previously had the Janome 134D and found the Aldi Sterling to be exactly the same build and look. I always recommend the Aldi Sterling overlocker and have had friends buy it when it is advertised for sale. If I had one wish - it’s that it had coverstitch included but for what it’s worth and the years of use I’ve had, it’s definitely a fantastic little machine.
Can't fault it so far – I am a beginner but the instructions are so easy to follow and I can see how sewing is an addiction... With a good beginner sewing machine like this... The Sky is the limit... Show details

Absolute rubbish – Bought this last year and didn't get around to trying it until tonight. I don't think I've ever been as frustrated with a piece of machinery as this steaming pile of horse droppings... it gets an inch or so done then jams up and smashes the needle against the bobbin carrier. It probably just needs something aligned but getting it serviced (which… Read more
you shouldn't have to do with a brand new machine) would cost me more than it cost to buy the thing. I should have known it would be rubbish... you get what you pay for. Am buying a used Janone instead.
A complete waste of time – I have a very old Janome that is in need of servicing, so thought it would cost as much to service as to buy a new one. While shopping in Aldi I saw this reduced to $72, should have known it would be a dud at that price! The tension dial doesn't work at all, no matter what I did the cotton looped all over the back of the fabric, and periodically… Read more
there would be a loud clunk and it would just stop. It is also very plastic, when trying to remove the sleeve table it feels like it is about to break. I got my old Janome out and while it is a bit clunky it does at least sew! This one will be going straight back!

Dangerous product – The machine started as soon as I turned on the power, whether the peddle is pushed down or not. It also came with zero instructions and doesn't have a reverse button. Dangerous! Do not buy it! Show details

Useless – I bought this for my granddaughter, 6ys old and a beginner sewer, I had taught her basics. Thought this would be a starting place for her to go solo. Machine has never worked, wont pick up the bottom thread to sew. Show details
Bobbin case pops out and unusable – Started off really well for a couple of small sewing projects, but then the bobbin case popped out. After a bit of difficulty, I've managed to get it back in but now it continually keeps doing it and its unusable- even if I don't use the foot pedal and just sew manually using the needle knob. Very disappointed. Think I'll have to spend a bit more money on a better machine. Show details
Rubbish – It's bent two needles ,it doesn't pick up the bobbin thread ,taken it a part cleaned it oiled it , worked for about five minutes ,then started breaking the thread again ,in the recycling bin now complete waste of money . Show details
I am an experienced sewer, and never been more frustrated – The thread continually breaks, nothing seems to work on tension setting, the needle arm moved out of alignment and eventuates in broken, jammed mess. Can’t find anything in the manual that’s helpful, what a waste of time and money. And audibly clunk accompanies the breaks Show details
Great machine! – Excellent sewing machine! I used it to make dresses, shorts, curtains. Sometimes the thread does get stuck, and but they always get resolved when you take all the threads out and redo it. Very happy! Show details
Great first sewing machine to learn on! – We bought 10 of the ALDI Stirling Sewing Machines for School. So far they have been great for the students to learn on. They must be threaded correctly or the thread will bunch up at the back quite severely, although this has been great learning for the students. They will now know if it is not set up properly and they also now how to fix this… Read more
problem. It is not the best machine for sewing many layers of thick material like denims, although we did manage to make some bags from old denim jeans. Students have also sewn patchwork quilts with them. It also has more stiches than the equivalently priced machines at Spotlight.
Foot pedal not working on two machines?? – The first one the foot petal worked intermittently so we had it replaced with the same problem on the replacement. Tine to get a,refund. Otherwise not a bad machine for under $30. Show details
Great cheap machine! – Bought this machine so I could learn to sew and it has been great! No issues at all, has been easy to get to use and have made a whole heap of different things. Show details

Really bad design ALDI should not have put it up for sale – It is very cheaply made, noisy, bad design. It just not good enough to sew anything. We have tried and wasted our time but failed to work. Good news is ALDI has agreed to refund the money. Show details
Amazing Machine – I sew quilts, home wares and Bags. It is an amazing machine for the price, if you take the time to read the manual and use good quality thread you shouldn't have a problem. I've had mine for 5 years. Show details
not great but not the worst – its good for beginners because it is very easy to thread, and it is a good value because it comes with a threaded bobbin and a bobbin case, however, it’s very bad quality, i got electrocuted from the machine and also the stitching is not great. Show details
Do not waste your money! – Do not waste your money. This machine is terrible. It sewed on the blue piece of fabric that came with it but after that, I couldn’t get it to work properly! I tried to get a replacement with the warranty but I think that fell into Aldi’s black hole....what is the point of a warranty if Aldi doesn’t follow through with it! Show details
Good for beginner – I've watched my mum sewing all my life, I've now decided to give myself a chance. I thing it is good machine for someone who isn't very sure, some who wants to try and make practice before invest more money. Show details
Ditched after 12 months! – After using this machine just 3 times in 12 months, the feeder dog stopped working so fabric won't feed through the machine when stitching. As also stated by others, some issues with cotton thread breaking and trouble adjusting the tension. Don't waste your money. Show details
Its amazing – Its easy nd great. I love it. Very handy to use. I bought 30$ . It makes my life so easy coz i always want to buy a sewing machine but i never used before so smwhere i was not happy to spend 200$+. I bought for a try nd its suprb Show details
Amazing – Despite the reviews, I actually love this machine. I've made many cloth pads etc and haven't had any issues. It sets perfect with great quality needles and thread. I absolutely love this little machine Show details
Great overlocker – There has been so much negative about the Aldi overlocker that I wanted to put this post up. I went to Aldi yesterday just to see what the overlocker was like. When I got there they only had 2 available so on impulse I grab one and must say I am impressed. I have own an old janome ezy lock for year, it a great machine but it's a pain to thread.… Read more
The Stirling opens up fully for a very easy threading. I have only sewn cotton so far but I'm impressed and so glad I took the leap without thinking yesterday. The inside are metal so should last.
