In January 2020, I purchased (on special) an Asko Dishwasher DW16.1D5456S ASK, Model No. D5456S for $1,777.00, comprising the costs for the dishwasher, delivery and installation of the dishwasher, and extra warranty. I made this purchase well beyond the price range of previous dishwashers I have owned to ensure the product was of efficient and… Read more

reliable quality. Within two years of my purchase of the dishwasher, I observed significant wearing of the identification buttons on the control panel, which necessitated the replacement of the control panel. This was repaired (although in 2025 the replacement control panel is again displaying the same wear of the previous panel - see attached photo). In July 2022, a water leak from the door and an ‘F10’ fault occurred. These faults resulted in service calls to our home in July, September and finally late October, when the faults were repaired - a significant period of 15 weeks. The tile grouting beneath the dishwasher was also damaged. In October 2023, the hinges on the dishwasher failed and required replacement. In February 2025, the dishwasher was tripping the switchboard safety switch resulting in loss of power to our home. Despite the external warranty expiring on 9 January 2025, I contacted the external warranty provider. Given the unreliable nature of the dishwasher and the lengthy periods of time when it was not fit for purpose, I believed the warranty should have been honoured, however the external warranty provider had a contrary view. I emailed Asko on 21 February, 2025 for financial consideration as I believe this product was never fit for purpose. I was advised to contact the service agent in my area as Asko was not prepared to financially assist in this matter. The service call occurred on 10 March, 2025 at a cost of $170.50. A faulty element was identified and quoted for repair at $393.80. In total, a cost of $564.30. I proceeded with the repair given payment for the service charge by the ASKO agent of $170.50 is not negotiable. It would be impossible to purchase a new dishwasher beneath the cost of $393.80, so I deemed it necessary to proceed. It is now 15 April and our dishwasher is not yet returned to us as it was also discovered it has a water leak - the service agent is still waiting for the replacement part from Asko. NOTE: The dishwasher has been inoperable for a collective period of approximately six months since its purchase in January, 2020! Given the extremely poor service record of the dishwasher, which has resulted in extensive periods of inoperability and unreliability, I firmly believe the dishwasher’s performance is not consistent with ASKO’s advertised claim of ‘durability and longevity’ and was never fit for purpose. Asko are not replying to my emails of complaint. I will never again buy an Asko dishwasher.

Worst dishwasher I’ve ever used – I purchased this $1700 or so dishwasher from Harvey Norman this year (2019). It literally leaves speckles of grime and dirt on every plate, cup etc. I’ve tried running dishwasher cleaning solutions, pre washing everything, different tablets etc. I’ve called customer service and no one got back to me. I’m currently trying to get a refund! Show details

I WILL NEVER GO BUY ASKO AGAIN !!! Bits of it could only have been designed to fail fast – --First the absurdly easy to break rack holders (lower shelf) broke so we had to use twisties to hold the plate racks in place as you can't buy spares & why buy them anyway (about $40 for a teeny little piece of plastic) if they will break again? --THEN the main touch control panel stopped working as soon as it was out of warranty, I had to pull… Read more

apart door (an impossible job w/o snapping a few tabs) and take off the front of the touch panel exposing the absurd felt buttons (this is the most crazy flimsy badly designed system!!) and we were able to use it for a few more years like this (looking hideous!). No way to make it work as new again (unlike say a remote control where you can use a graphite from a pencil to fix the contact points). --Finally it just short circuited and i pulled apart as much as I can (D/W outside on grass so tried it even upside down) and it's almost impossible to access anything that makes it tick. --ALSO TO NOTE the top panel with the power button had most of the writing & colour wear off very fast so after only 1 year it looked very ugly, every fingerprint got embedded it was impossible to clean! All this for a supposed top of the line dishwasher! Never again!! I'm only buying ultra-cheap brands now as (if they last a couple of years i can buy another every 2 years and save a bundle & and always have a nice new looking machine instead of an eyesore) instead of an eyesore).

Asko D5456 Starting Problems – Our dishwasher has been refusing to start during recent period of hot/humid weather. After previous problems {see previous notes} we went to buy a new unit. moisture enters the touch panel when cleaning. Use paper towel only, do not spray liquid cleaner. Try not to have too much humidity in kitchen. After normal starting procedure, touch panel marked Start/Stop must be "HELD" not just touched, until washer starts. This is the "switch" below the glass area. The same procedure can be used to stop the machine, but remember the switch must be "HELD", not just touched. Worked every time. This is the switch at the right hand end & below the glass panel used after after turning on the master switch on top of the door & setting the program. Use your finger, not your thumb. Do not touch the dishwasher with your other hand. Wish someone had explained this three years ago. Keith H.

Great dishwasher – We replaced our old bad, leaky dishwasher with an Asko, after hearing a lot of positive things about these dishwashers from friends and other people. We spent a little more than what we set out to spend on a new dishwasher but so far we are very happy. The Asko has a primarily stainless steel interior, drum and wash jets as opposed to the other… Read more

dishwashers that use a lot of plastic, the stainless steel was a big plus from a hygiene point of view and the mechanisms also felt sturdier when we pulled out the dish trays and opened and closed the door compared to the other machines we were looking at! A month in and it washes beautifully, I have so far not found any food left on dishes even those with oven baked food on them. It has its own preset wash times, the shortest being 2.35 hours or you can set your own anywhere from a 15 minute cycle, I have found that a 60 or 90 minute wash cycle will wash a full dishwasher load perfectly and all my items even my plastic utensils and tubs come out nice and clean and dry. The machine is reasonably quiet, our family room is right next to the kitchen and I can easily run a load without really noticing it is on! I am very happy with this dishwasher and think it is great value for the money spent, I would happily recommend it to family and friends!

I LOVE this dishwasher in every way! – I’ve just read the other scaving reviews. I’ve only had my dishwasher for 5 Months, but it has simply been the best ever! I just love it! Quiet and high quality dishwasher – This dishwasher works extremely well, the design is modern and classy, and the dishes always come out perfectly clean. I bought this in 2019 and it has not clogged once. The only thing I would change would be giving it the option for a shorter cycle. Show details

Constant Issues in past 5 years – Purchased the DW in 7/2017 and had exactly 2 years of good service. Issues with door closing/opening and buttons failing ever since. Was sold on the solid upper compartment stability and that has been the best part of the dishwasher so far. Service and repairs are inordinately expensive and by not providing a long warranty it is clear that the manufacturer is unable to stand by the product on reliability. Show details

Awesome Dishwasher Day-to-Day, but How Reliable Is It Long-Term?!? – I've had this for over a year now. I would say I used it on average 2-3 times per week. This is my first every dishwasher. I use this on all my porcelain and glass dishes, as well as all my cutlery and some dishwasher friendly utensils. I don't use the dishwasher on my pots and pans or knives, to give you some context. In terms of cleaning the… Read more

dishes, it works very solidly. I've always used rinse aid, and I use it on normal wash mode pretty much all of the time, and pretty much everything comes out clean all of the time. I would say I'm an extremely pedantic and organised stacker of the dishes though. If I don't use the high-temperature function, a lot of the dishes will come out a bit wet unfortunately (not the bottom of them, but small bits of water may leave drips here and there). There is a noticeable difference if I do use the high-temperature function, as most of the dishes come out fairly dry. This is the mode I used most of the time. If I happen to have heaps of dishes, I will sometimes use the less energy efficient high-temperature and long-dry function as well, to which the dishes pretty much always come out spick and speck, and very dry (unless there is huge pooling which would be a fault of myself in terms of stacking the dishes).

It would be good if it had a half wash function, but we've learnt to load it fully (even if it takes a few days sometimes) between washes and it's not inconvenient because we have plenty of dishes to go around.

It's not loud at all - I actually think it's quiet and great in that sense for a dishwasher, but if that may bother you, you can always set the timer to run it overnight (cycles go for between 90-180 minutes depending on what option you choose). There's many other options other than the normal wash I choose (such as daily wash (not really sure of the difference between this and the normal wash), heavy duty wash, eco mode, you pick a time, rinse mode, and the option to do the high-temperature and long-dry if you wish as well.

It has failed once in the 12 months, where the water failed to drain and we had to call customer service where the Asko representative came out under warranty and unclogged one of the pipes and it was working fine again after that. I had tried to troubleshoot but to no luck. Customer service was good, but not brilliant. The service wasn't as quick as it could of been. (Took just over a week in a metro area for someone to help, and a few e-mails and a couple of phone calls). After they fixed it, they said it was because of the fat accumulating in the pipes that it happened, so that doesn't give me the best confidence into the future. The manual tells me we can leave tiny remnants of food, and that we don't have to rinse each dish before putting it in... but then the service guy said differently... So now we're quite worried this issue will pop up again. Service fees aren't cheap if not under warranty (something like $110 call-out plus $38 per 15 mins).

Other than that, it has worked well, but I hope it lasts much longer without any more issues, given the price of it compared to other dishwashers. There's been enough issues in other reviews for me to be skeptical about it's reliability.

It's a very good dishwasher - we're very happy with it on a day-to-day and week-to-week basis. I hope the money I invested in a solid stainless steel dishwasher with stainless steel parts, just stands the test of time without any more issues that render it useless, and without the issues that others seem to have had with it.

model is affected by other Panasonic household products, and solar power. He replaced the powerboard. We still had the same problem - the power board was replaced again. This did not fix the problem and we asked Asko to remove the dishwasher and give us a refund, which they did. It took 5 months to sort it out though. We believe it was the solar panels on our roof that affected the dishwasher because it would work at night-time with no problem when we weren't using solar power but wouldn't work properly during daylight hours. When it did work it washed the dishes perfectly, no problems there. It was a bit noisy. However, there is no point having a dishwasher that is not compatible with other household items, especially solar panels on the roof! Asko should discontinue this model of dishwasher.

I was also told that I should be looking at the manual to fix my problem, i.e. not calling them.

The most terrible, unhelpful and rude customer service I have ever received.

My expectation is that if I pay a premium price for something, it should work for longer and better (it really is on par with most cheaper models in terms of how well it cleans and dries) than lesser price products and the customer service should be excellent. I now wish I bought a cheaper product which could do the same thing.
