I bought a new Aspera R40 in June 2024, as I wanted a tough dumb phone. It wasn't exactly that but near enough. I was happy with it until the battery died in March 2026. Apsera have discontinued not only the phone, but also the battery - and no generic batteries fit the unit. Never buy an Aspera phone! Show details

Recently purchased the Aspera chat 4g phone as a temporary phone whilst my Samsung was getting repaired and hands down this is the absolute worst so called smartphone I've ever used or owned. Every other device that's used via Broadband WiFi in the… Read more

house is a stress free and fast service however this poor excuse for a smartphone is in all honesty worse than the original dial up Internet if I am lucky enough to be able to even open Google and perouse the front page headlines of news.com. If anyone is thinking of buying one of these because of the low price DON'T you'll get more satisfaction if you donate the money. How they even released these to the stores for sale and have no conscience in blatantly ripping off the consumer is beyond me. Stay away from the Aspera Chat

Follow-up  · It definitely didn't improve and in fact got worse than the first time I reviewed this incompetent product

A problem from day one, took two hours for a tech savvy friend to get it started, very poor photography quality. Turns itself off just out of the blue then only way to get started is to open back, disconnect then reconnect battery and then not always successful. Sometimes if turned off it takes 5/10 minutes with much tapping to finally get the… Read more

opening page. It doesn't ring half the time and goes straight to hangup or stops ringing after 2 rings and goes to off. The worst, most frustrating piece of crap Ive ever dealt with. Finally got a new phone and will transfer photos and other info , then I'll very happily smash the wretched thing into tiny pieces. If you want to stay sane, keep away from this rubbish

Dubious, but not warranted – Hubby has an F50 Aspera Smart phone, and we weren't able to charge it using the charging cradle, which was our usual practice. Not able to phone because there wasn't a number on the website - only the contact email message option., I was disappointed there was not an immediate response and the model was not included in the drop down list - hence 4… Read more

stars. But, crikey, less than 90 minutes later an email reply arrived and the instructions worked a treat. Definitely a case of unwarranted concerns on my part.

Yeah - it's the lack of ANY service that is a concern – I bought an R40 phone about 2 or even 3 weeks back and I have contacted them multiple times by email and there has been NO response - not even a reply. I have also made a number of calls to them over the last week, and after a long dial time and music for a few minutes, I get the recorded message, "We are busy and cannot answer your calls, so you… Read more

can call back later, or leave a message, and we will return your calls as soon as possible".

Well the emails are not replied too or answered and the phone calls are not being answered and the calls back are not being made.

And there comes a tipping point - of where SOME unmanagability is OK - some times, but it's when it's a solid wall of ZERO communication back from them, over multiple contacts, that I tend to start thinking that the complaints raised by other people who have bought their other phones - about the really deceitful customer service, and now progressing into a total LACK of customer service may in fact be absolutely TRUE.

Well the good news is that when I can get a pay as you go SIM to stick in the glove box phone, I can upgrade the OS and even look at making the speaker phone work - but the makers of the Kai-OS (Kai Operating System) as the version in the phone 2.3 something is upgradable to 3.0 something, and maybe IF the hardware (chips and processing power) is there, the hands free will work or the OS can be hacked and or replaced to do it.

However the people in the Asperia Company are NO help at all so far.

And the Hands Free Phone Calls - this is solidly OLD tech - and the phone has a good loudspeaker and I'd really like to see it work as a hands free - because I hate holding phones to my head - it makes me see lights and portals into other dimensions and things like that.

And brain cancer in the hand is pretty easy to cure they tell me.

So yeah.... You people at Aspera REALLY need to lift your game or face universal condemnation and closure....

The market will not tolerate poor standards for long.

Aspera's Deception – I wish to alert potential buyers of the deceptive marketing advertising of this company. One of our phones was due for replacement, after consulting with the company, it was decided the R40 suited our requirements & was unlocked. ( this model is similar to Nokia but a cheaper version ) Upon attempts to activate the phone, the following message… Read more

appeared on screen: "Acceptance of Kai Os licence, terms, & privacy policy is required to use this device".

I was never advised of these conditions. They had to be accessed on line & covered several pages. I wonder how many have bothered to read these? This is information gathering & conducive for identity fraud handed to them on a plate. A high price to pay for a so called "unlocked phone".

Information sent overseas to affiliated companies cannot gtee. security of your information, & is not protected by Aust. Law once outside of Aust. territorial waters.

I was stunned & disgusted. A sneaky way to obtain personal info.

It appears journalists who reviewed this model, made no mention of the above.

I contacted the Dept. of Fair Trading who shared my concerns.

The phone was returned to the point of sale & a refund issued they also took notes of what had transpired.

Reports on this site regarding treatment of customers is appalling
