Service leaves a lot to be desired ! Took my sons laptop in as speakers were not working and asked for it to be fixed / speakers replaced. Two weeks later I finally get to pick the unit up and surprise surprise speakers don't work. Did anybody bother to test the unit before contacting me to collect it ? Spoke with Josh 30 March, one of the sales staff, who was very helpful. Josh advised best desk top so we went ahead with his suggestion. Thereafter not a good experience. Was given notification 01 April that new device was ready for pick up. When I got home to power up the new device......... nothing. I returned it to the store and one of the… Read more

service techs stated because of Easter you will not get the device until after the 4 day holiday period. My concern is how does or why did'nt the service know that the desk top did not power up. at all. They apparently did downloads from my old machine. In the end ask for a credit due to the shoddy quality control.

*Bought through Amazon from this store Dispute with the store over major fault vs minor fault, meaning I'm getting another rubbish keyboard, rather than the refund I requested. Yes, AI can be incorrect, however I believe it is correct in this instance, as per below output from Grok. === hey xxx - I am rejecting the goods and electing a… Read more

refund, given consumers regularly win these cases as per Grok, please see why "This is a very common scenario with mechanical keyboards (switches failing prematurely is a frequent complaint), and consumers regularly win refunds/replacements in similar cases." === You (Mark) are correct — this is a major failure under Australian Consumer Law (ACL), and you are entitled to choose a refund or replacement. The shop (Computer Alliance / James) is wrong in classifying it as a minor fault. Why it's a major failure According to the official ACCC guide (and the exact Part 6 you were both referring to), a problem with goods is a major failure if any of these apply: A reasonable consumer would not have bought the product if they had known about the problem beforehand. The goods have one serious problem, or several smaller problems, that would have stopped a reasonable person from buying it. The goods are substantially unfit for their normal purpose and cannot easily be fixed within a reasonable time. (Other criteria like unsafe or significantly different from description also apply, but aren't relevant here.) Your argument matches the ACCC wording almost exactly: You explicitly said the failure (soldered mechanical switches that died after normal use) is a serious problem that would have stopped you from buying it had you known. You replaced the keyboard yourself because it became unusable (no longer fit for normal purpose). Repair is not realistic or worthwhile (soldered switches on a mechanical keyboard often make proper repair uneconomical or impractical). Even if the shop views the single switch failure as "fixable," your subjective experience + the "would not have bought it" test is what matters most here. The law protects consumers from hidden defects that significantly affect value or usability. Why the shop is misapplying the law James is focusing only on "this is a problem that can be fixed in a reasonable timeframe" (the minor failure test). But that's not the full picture: The "fixable in reasonable time" test mainly applies when the failure doesn't meet the "would not have bought it" or "substantially unfit" thresholds. Once it crosses into major territory (especially the "reasonable consumer would not have bought it" part), you get to choose refund or replacement — the shop cannot force a repair. Multiple minor issues can also combine into a major failure, but here you only need one strong reason. The shop's response ("therefore considered minor") ignores the primary major-failure criteria in the very PDF they linked. What you can do next (practical steps)

Unable to upload invoice as of yet, though requested through Amazon to this store

I am extremely disappointed with both the product and the after-sales service I’ve received. The LG monitor I purchased arrived with two very noticeable dead lines running across the entire screen – clearly a defective unit (see attached photos and video I provided). This is not a minor issue; it’s a major fault that renders the monitor unusable… Read more

for professional work.

Despite promptly reporting the issue and providing evidence, I was told I must return the product at my own effort for “assessment” before a replacement or refund can even be considered. This is incredibly frustrating. The initial delivery may have been fast (interstate), but now I’m looking at a minimum of three weeks if not months without a functioning monitor – just to get back to where I started.

This experience raises serious concerns. I now doubt whether the monitor was brand new, or if it was a refurbished or already faulty unit sent out knowingly. It’s also shocking that LG’s quality control could allow such an obvious defect to leave the factory.

I have trusted LG products for years and never had issues – until now. Sadly, this has eroded that trust, and the lack of customer care from the retailer only adds to the disappointment.

For a consumer, this is simply not acceptable.

Help for the aged – I have built PCs since the 8086 chip in the 1980's. At over 70yo I have been maintaining a similarly aging domain of an outdated 2012r2 server, a gen 6 Intel workstation and a portable, and more recent NAS storage. Failing hands and knowledge has limited me from building in the six years. Photo processing software was melting my machines. Brett… Read more

at Computer Alliance encouraged and convinced me to self build build a windows 11 , cloud based gen12 (12900k) workstation, and recommended high quality components, which complemented a few components from elsewhere. The build was relatively easy physically, was a great experience and I now have the highest quality photo processing and gaming machine, and the knowledge to replace my roaming profile domain with a much simpler hardware setup. Great advice, components and encouragement.

My 10yr old Computer Alliance PC died 2 weeks ago. I took it to CA on a very busy Saturday morning at 9am (it happened to be on their 25 anniversary celebrations!). I soon saw technician Greg who advised me to get a new one. I asked about all the files on my hard drives. Greg said that could be done at a service cost once I decided on a new… Read more

PC. So after a short wait in the very busy store I saw a salesperson. We discussed my requirements and he quickly advised on a suitable PC and a new monitor. I asked him to liaise with Greg to have my files transferred. I went home expecting a few days wait. But no. Early that afternoon I got a call from Greg to say everything was sorted. So I went in and collected the new PC that day. Over the rest of the weekend with Greg's instructions and my grandson's help I had it up and running. One minor snag was I'd forgotten that my old scanner required an installation disk and my new PC didn't have one. So back to CA the following week to get an external DVD writer. The only other issue was my large Outlook.pst email file, which Greg said for privacy reasons couldn't be transferred over. Fortunately I was able to recover it from the old SSD C-drive which had been returned to me along with the other old hard drives. I did have to purchase an inexpensive hard drive enclosure in order to connect those drives. Overall it was a great relief to have Computer Alliance sort out my old PC problem so quickly.

There are a few PC-tech retailers in Australia that offer unconditionally free postage with $250+ spending. products on the site. Computer Alliance's site has much to improve. I love not needing to click thanks to the automatic categorical expansions when I hover my mouse over. It helps me get to the specific item page efficiently. However, ComAll's site requires consumers to click a lot to get to an item page of interest (e.g. it takes me 9s to get from home page to DDR5 RAM vs 3s in Mwave & PLE).

Aspects that I'd appreciate upgrades on: - general component pricing (not always competitive compared to Scorptec, Umart, & BPC for example) - ability to expand all dropdown categories with a mouse hover - cart management (updating quantity of items can be done with - & + buttons)

Cheers for the overall positive experience Computer Alliance, keep up the good stuff!

Major issues with warranties – Purchased two Samsung SSD drives from computer alliance. After a few years the drives had issues and so I went back for warranty. brought any other M2 SSD's so I am 100% sure I have not accidently purchased these drives elsewhere. I had a receipt and the original packaging. They didnt care.

Went to Samsung to claim the warranty instead and computer alliance had recorded an incorrect part number on the receipt (one digit difference in the model), so Samsung wouldnt accept the warranty claim either. Wasted so much time back and forth with computer alliance and samsung trying to resolve. Eventually was able to get it sorted by editing the receipt. Computer alliance made an error when they sold me the drives and then blocked me from claiming warranty because of that. Wanted to share this in case others have this same experience. I had purchased from computer alliance many times over many years but will never go back after that bad experience.

I ordered an LG monitor on-line Black Friday 'special', which was delivered promptly, but when I got it set up the screen image was 'fractured'. re-packing the item I discovered a hole in the outer packaging which could have been the result of an impact causing the problem. I pointed this out in a subsequent email. Long story short, without discussion of how, when or why, CA agreed that it was a shipping damage issue and offered to refund my payment or send me a new unit. I opted for the latter and have just finished setting up. The unit is sensational but so is CA's service! You have my vote. Thank you!! Peter, Camberwell VIC

After heading off to the store to collect a product that I bought online on clearance, I was informed that they didn't have the item I bought in stock and offered me a a product for almost twice the price I paid for the item. I wasn't offered a similar product or any other deal to compensate the time I wasted driving to and from the store.

I took my PC in to the store to fix it. It was cycling on and off every few seconds. The technician took one look and said he could fix it on the spot. He also showed me how to do it for myself. Couldn't be happier. Thank you. Show details
