Review for ASPERA- AS6 – The Aspera AS6 is SO bad it is hard to find a place where you're allowed to review it. It is a cheap phone and you get what you pay for. The best I could say about it is that the camera is reasonable. All buttons have a very slow reaction time. Oftentimes the icon on the screen is not exactly where you need to touch the screen (for example, to… Read more

take a photo I need to touch the screen slightly ABOVE and to the LEFT of the button icon). I use the phone for calls, texts, some photos, and installed YouTube. The phone (my particular phone, at least) also cuts out randomly, the ONE app I installed also shuts down randomly. The latest issue (Which has gotten worse over the approx 6 months I've owned it) is with charging. Even when the phone is connected to the charger the battery continues to run down, ..... WHILE IT IS CONNECTED TO THE CHARGER. I have never let the battery run down completely, and rarely charge it to 100%, only charge it to 90%-95%, it has never been left plugged into the charger overnight (overcharged). Although, as I write this I have it on the charger and the phone is becoming hot, the battery is still running down at approx one percent every 2-3 minutes, and according to the Battery info my 'screen usage' since last full charge has been 4 hours and 43 minutes. It is SO bad that I suspect it could be an issue with my particular phone as, if these issues are common to ALL Aspera phones, I cannot see how they passed any type of quality standard. Again, this may be unique to MY particular phone, but what a piece of junk.

The camera takes the blurriest photos ever – Unable to use camera. It's not me moving the camera either. I had friends looking to see if there was something wrong in the settings but it is just an absolutely shocking camera. Blurry photos. I have an Aspera Swift and have never been able to take photos. I've also had to factory reset it twice as it has frozen and only given me a reset option. Photo examples below. Show details

good basic phone – My Wife has this phone it is simple to use. It recently needed a new battery after about 3 years. They are available at a reasonable price from Aspera. She is happy with the phone and did not want to upgrade. The battery is only modest so if you want long talk times it may not be for you. Show details

Simple to use and does the job – I bought this phone for my mother (in her 80s) 2 years ago for voice and texting and it is still working despite being dropped numerous times. No problems with reception on the Telstra network. Battery charge is okay; the battery has been replaced once, and only cost $20 including postage. Features such as camera have not been used so can’t comment. If it had to be replaced I would get the same model again. Show details

Phone is fine but the camera quality is terrible. Very disappointing – Phone is an excellent size particularly for older people but the camera is very disappointing. Blurry and unprintable. Photo of the turtle on the main screen is very misleading. Camera is not even vaguely close to that quality. Show details

A simple yet quite functional phone which unfortunately is let down by a totally inadequate battery – Good points: large numbers and compact size. Unfortunately, its battery capacity is sadly lacking. Over the last couple of years I have bought 3 of these phones for myself and family members including an additional battery (in November 2018) for my own phone. In each case the battery has been unable to cope with "normal" call usage and its… Read more

Most Li-ion battery problems are caused by overcharging – The Phone was purchased for my mum-in-law nearly two years ago. She wants nothing to do with any of the features except phone calls. Recently she had trouble keeping a charge in the battery. I investigated a bit and found that she had overcharged the Li-ion Battery. (which are very different to the batteries in smart phones). I bought a new… Read more

one online from Aspera for $20. Very reasonable I thought. She now knows to only change the battery for a few hours (instead of overnight), and it really only needs to be done every few days. All good now.

Good Phone that does what I want – I bought my Aspera F24 online and it was delivered just before Christmas. I inserted my Sim Card and charged the battery and I was away. I only want a mobile phone that I can make and receive calls on and write and receive SMS. Cameras, internet access, playing games etc. etc. are not something I require, but the Aspera F24 does have some of… Read more

these features.

It does not have a touch screen; everything is done via a hard button keyboard (making it, I am told, "Old School").

But it works and it works well. The screen, while small, is easy to read (even without my glasses). I can hear callers when they ring and they can hear me. I can set up suitable sounds for ring tones etc. and adjust their volume, as well as readily maintain my contacts list.

In the couple of short weeks I have had the phone. I am more than pleased. Its compact and reasonably rugged enough for me to take in the car when I am out and about. So far, I have only had to recharge the battery twice, but I do not leave my mobile on 24 hours a day. I only have it on when I need to use it.

My only reason for a 4 star review, is that perhaps I should have gone for a more "rugged" model like the Aspera F30R. And perhaps it would be nice if the phone connected up with my WiFi NBN at home.

But despite these reservations, I can recommend the phone as a reliable "no frills" phone that seems to be designed with the "older" user in mind.

The Perfect Seniors Camera – I use my mobile phone for phone calls & texting. It is very easy to use but unfortunately very limited on the length of text messages owing to the large print. Don’t buy this unreliable mobile – I purchased the F24 with and for my 80yo mother who wanted a no frills, easy to use and reliable mobile. Well, two out of three is bad, because the F24 was faulty from the start. Like many other reviews on this site, the phone wouldn’t charge properly, battery life was short and given that it was bought for emergency contact, very unreliable. My… Read more

mother returned it to Target twice, who accepted no responsibility, dismissing her complaint on the first occasion, suggesting that she wasn’t using it properly (??). The second time they argued before agreeing to send off to Aspera to be checked. After almost a month it was returned, pronounced fixed - needless to say it wasn’t.

Phone is now out of warranty and Target Australia has denied any responsibility.

Lessons learnt:

1. Don’t buy an Australian mobile to support local business (the F24 is a cheap Chinese product anyway), buy from a reputable manufacturer that knows what they’re doing.

2. Don’t buy technology from Target, their product awareness and support is atrocious.

3. Be suspicious of products supposedly ideal for seniors - given the age of the target market, the manufacturer may have decided product longevity isn’t required.

I bought this phone for my mum and she's very happy – My mum has previously used two Telstra brand mobility friendly basic phones. best phone she's used thus far as it rings loudly and the keypad numbers and display font size are large enough. She's used this phone for a week now and can navigate the contact list easily enough and make calls. That is all she uses mobile phones for.

I have read other reviews on here about charging issues occurring around the two week mark. Here's hoping we don't encounter such issues and I'll report back if we do.

Update: She's been using this for three weeks now and hasn't encountered any problems with it and is still very happy.

Feedback on Aspera F24 flip phone and general experience with mobiles – 1. F24 cuts out mid-sentence even after coming off long charge. no cut-out mid-talk next day...My current smart phone is a rebirthed NOKIA, from Finland-based company, and does not have battery issues--just the in-your-face presence of Google's Android system is a negative personally with which reborn Nokia is partnered. .

QUESTIONS on F24 flip phone:

1. Why is phone cutting off, anybody?

2. Does the F24 discharge safely out the extra battery current coming through on an overnight charge?

3. Why, no longer holding charges?

People VERY busy and cannot snap F24 off charger at exact time required. Impractical short-charge design .

4. What is reason behind the 1-2 hour charge requirement recommended above by the "Aspera official"?

Defective charging port on Aspera F24 phones - wasted money on two phones and a new battery – We have had constant problems with this phone not charging. We first contacted Aspera who said it was our fault for 'over-charging' the phone's battery, so we paid them to get a new battery sent to us. We were super-careful not to keep charging the phone when it appeared fully charged. Within weeks the phone was malfunctioning again. We then… Read more

ordered a brand new Aspera F24 from Australia Post - within two weeks the new phone has stopped charging. You plug the USB charger in the phone's USB port and the green 'charging' lights appear on the screen -- but no actual charging takes place.

We've experimented with different cables and devices and it appears to be the metallic surfaces in the PHONE'S micro USB charging port itself that are faulty. Don't let Aspera tell you that you've damaged the battery -- there is an inherent manufacturing defect with their F24 phones.

Consider yourselves warned.
