Astron Fuel
1 review
The Thursday before Good Friday I needed to top up my car with fuel before Easter. I always check on Petrol Spy for local rates. Astron in Somerville always seems to quote the cheapest Rate - HOWEVER be careful... they are NOT. The week before I went to Astron as they were around 4-5cents per litre cheaper than all the other petrol stations. When I went inside to pay - I opened my United Fuel card on my phone and generated a barcode to claim four cents per litre off my fuel. The Indian woman with dyed purple hair informed me that their scanner for the discount wasn't working, however she would give me the discount...so she tapped away and pushed the card processing machine towards me to tap my card. I tapped my card and left. As I returned to my car I looked at the bowser and noticed I had paid exactly what was on the bowser. No discount had been processed. I was running late for an appointment, so I didn't go back in. I returned the following week to fill my car with High Octane Fuel 98. This time when I went in I showed my United card with the barcode to receive the discount (as advertised on the main Sign that shows the price of fuel. At the base of this sign it states We accept United Discount cards. I showed the barcode to the attendant - the same woman with purple hair. Once again she said "The scanner doesn't work, however I will give you the discount manually". I replied "So you will take off the 4 cents per litre?". She replied "No - I will give you 2 cents per litre off." I said "The United card clearly says 4 cents per Litre" and I showed her my United Card. Her response was "We only accept United Fuel Cards". I said the sign on the billboard out front clearly says the you accept United Cards - it does not say Fuel Cards. She said I will give you 2 cents per litre off. I believe this is false advertising and I intend to report this to United. I actually believe the Astron Service Station in Somerville is scamming Astron AND United. I personally will never return there for fuel again. At a time when fuel prices are going through the roof, it's sad that the Petrol stations post their fuel rate as the lowest in the area and then don't honour it. Basically it's a SCAM!
