It is a bad car 1- the sensors for day and night changes are poor. Rely on cheap technology 2- the doors very hard to close. Almost slam strongly 3- the trim of the doors peeling off 4- and worst. Very poor location navigation. It keeps thinking and thinking then comes up. Unable to find location. Never had tgis in any German car. But lots of reviews confirmed this poor quality Show details

Audi Q7 "STOPS WHILE DRIVING" MUST READ BEFORE BUYING AN AUDI Audi’s Virtual Cockpit is a showcase of innovation, but in reality it has only served as a dashboard for displaying faults, a constant reminder of how unreliable this Q7 truly is. FIRST – My brand-new Audi Q7 55 TFSI Premium Plus catastrophically broke down at just 486 km, only days… Read more

after purchase. The failure was caused by a known BSG alternator defect that Audi continues to hide in Australia (Google search: TSB_48 V MHEV or Case No. 3:23-cv-02291). To make matters worse, there were also specification mismatches compared to the Q7 Premium Plus I ordered.

SECOND – The loan Q7 provided by Audi Doncaster during this ordeal was itself riddled with faults. The dashboard lit up with warnings: Adaptive Light Fault, Driver Assist Restricted, Traffic Sign Recognition Fault. The car meant to “cover” me in this disaster was another unreliable, broken Q7 , absolutely laughable.

THIRD – While searching for the owner’s manual in the glovebox of this loaner, I instead found its PD Preservation Log (Stock No. 592146). That log showed the battery had already been marked DEFECTIVE before Audi Doncaster gave me the keys. This means the dealership knowingly handed me a flagged defective vehicle an unacceptable and dangerous practice.

My own Q7 55TFSI is Stock No. 592412, not far apart in production from the loaner. Is this an electrical plague across the batch? Are recent Q7s being sold with compromised electrical systems?

Let this sink in: A brand-new Q7 collapsed within days of delivery. A loan Q7 was knowingly defective and still handed to a customer. Both vehicles riddled with electrical failures.

Audi Doncaster and Audi Australia should feel ashamed. Consumers deserve to know the truth: Audi is selling defective trash in Australia.

Stops while driving! Serious safety issues – 2020 Audi Q7 50 TDI S Line. Absolutely loved my Audi Q7 after replacing our 5 year old BMW X5. I searched high and low for the best car to suit our family of 6 including two anchored car seats (which we placed in the third row) and two teenagers. Apart from a few glitches relating to the screen and reverse camera occasionally not working, it has… Read more

been very practical and lovely to drive. This was until a couple of months ago when it completely shut down whilst driving. Yes, that’s right, no warning, no chance to pull over, no chance to avoid what could have been a potentially catastrophic accident. After occurring on multiple occasions, I was forced to stop driving the vehicle for my family’s safety. We were finally able to get it into Audi after a few weeks (after jumping up and down), no replacement Audi available (obviously high demand), however a hire car was eventually provided. After initial diagnostics & repairs failed, recommended battery change (not covered under warranty and after less than two years hmmm) and now have been advised that after diagnostics were sent to Germany the part required will now be another month away. Still no clear explanation as to why the software or problem would allow a complete shutdown whilst driving. As far as I’m concerned this should be a safety recall issue. I am not at all confident that Audi can guarantee my family’s safety in this vehicle and to be quite honest feel safer in the Hyundai Santafe loan car. Certainly not good enough when you have outlaid over $100k. At the end of the day I could not recommend this vehicle due to this serious safety issue. **** Also note, this vehicle does NOT have run flat tyres. Be prepared to be stranded if you get a flat tyre. Update 2023 now out of warranty and reversing cameras have gone from glitching to not working at all. No response from Audi Australia after multiple emails and many many non returned calls from service centre despite issue being raised during previous warranty works.

Great car to drive but software glitches galore – I bought my 2021 210kw diesel S-line model brand new, after having the pre-update model for a few years. It's a big improvement on the older model in many ways - especially ride and handling, and it was already good. I tested several luxury SUVs before deciding to buy this car, as it was generally better in ride, handling, and towing specs. I… Read more

don't drive it off-road, but I do tow a caravan (and it's brilliant for that). What lets it down though is the MMI and electronics. The display screens look great, and if it all worked properly it would be awesome (not as good as Mercedes but still great). But no rotary dial so you have to press the touch-screen (often missing it as you're trying to keep your eyes on the road) - and so many software bugs!

I set up my favourite destinations, and 2 weeks later they've all disappeared. My Home address - gone. My call history - gone. Then I get weird messages - such as the cruise control isn't available because I don't have a licence for it - then next time it's working fine. Or I'll get multiple messages saying various driver assistance aids are unavailable, such as lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring etc. 10 minutes later, it's working again.

Then there's the buttons on the tailgate to close or lock it - sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. I took photos of the screens and videos of these things because of course the dealer can't find any problems.

A few weeks ago my dealer said that Audi is working on a software update which *may* fix the problems, but it probably won't arrive until next year sometime! Amazing to think that VW (who own Audi) can make such great software to trick the fuel consumption figures and scam their customers, but can't get a tailgate button working properly or have the computer store my home address for more than 2 weeks. And googling these issues show lots of people complaining about them going back to the Q8 release - maybe 2 years ago?

Now these problems aren't major - just extremely annoying and really detract from the otherwise great driving experience. Like a constant itch you can't scratch.

I believe this MMI is now standard across the Audi range. You have been warned!

Great Luxury SUV – In September 2019 I bought a brand new Q7 50TDI. It's now got almost 62k km been awesome. It's a pre-facelift car with the 2020 engine and 48v mild hybrid system. 0-100 6.2 sec that's impressive performance. Small issues here and there but nothing dramatic. One of the best cars I've owned – I bought a used 2015 Audi Q7 about 8 months ago, and love it. It has 4WD, 4 wheel steering and air suspension, and is one of the most comfortable cars I've ever driven. I drove it from Sydney to Brisbane, and in the wet on the highway at 110km/h it's incredibly stable. Also got 6.5l/100km which is outstanding for a 200kw 2.5 tonne diesel. It's… Read more

powerful and also super quiet which is a pleasant surprise, and the interior is a lovely place to be. It tows my caravan with ease (that's the reason I bought it), and the virtual cockpit is an awesome piece of kit. It's a shame the trailer assistance software isn't available in Australia because of safety chain rules, but I hope Audi can sort something out for the new model. I also own a 2015 Mercedes E400 (supposedly the best sedan ever made at the time), and I actually enjoy driving the Q7 more (never thought I'd say that). The only issues I have with it are that there's not a lot of leg room in the 3rd row (the Isuzu M-UX is much better there), it has no spare wheel (not even a spacesaver), and the brakes tend to pulse a bit more than I like under heavy braking. The front seats could use a little more lateral support, but I believe that's available with a seat upgrade. None of these things affect the driveability or reliability.

I've read lots of reviews where people have had lots of problems with their Q7 which is unfortunate, but I have to say I've had none so far with mine. I've owned 3 BMWs (all of which had problems such as the dash display failing, constant oil leaks in my 540i etc), three Mercedes Benz (one of which had minor problems, and my current E400 has a very intermittent problem where I suddenly lose power - they can't figure out why). This is my 3rd Audi, and I've only had problems with the voice recognition software in one of them, otherwise they've all been great.

My point is that all models and manufacturers have problems from time to time. If you're unlucky enough to get a lemon then it's disastrous, but otherwise you should expect some problems with any car you buy. As for the diesel fuel issues, it's no different from Toyota Prados which are having major problems with their DRM system right now (reports of people breaking down out near Birdsville in their new Prado are concerning), along with some other manufacturers. Also note that Toyota, Hyundai and Honda have all received huge fines in recent years for not disclosing safety issues with some models (such as faulty brakes) etc. And if you really believe Q7s are unreliable, you should read the reviews about other 4WDs!

As for the dealers, well that's a very big variable.

Next year I'll be trading in my Q7 for the new model. I expect there will be some problems with it, but I'm sure I'll love driving it just the same. Love it :)

The only solution, a court action. How do they sell these cars ?? In my business, I deal with an enormous number of business people, & I now go out of my way not only to recommend they NEVER buy Audi, but NEVER buy a car from Solitare in Adelaide. Solitare also sell Volvo, Jaguar, VW, Maserati, Audi, etc. Don't buy a car from solitare & never buy an audi. They are a rip off.

Nice car, but fuel consumption is not as marketed – Nice car, better feeling than BMW 2015 X5, but the fuel consumption is bit higher than website says. Interior feels good, better than my old Benz G class. What I don’t like is the option package are bit pricy, should be more affordable for real Audi drivers. Also the standard Audio system/speakers are not as good as my old TT 2006. Could be bigger internal space.  Show details

Worst car I have ever owned – Purchased my Audi Q7 4M in December 2015 from Audi Ballarat (VIC). Cost was over $115,000. Since this time I have had over 50 faults with the vehicle ranging from intermittent electronic issues to major engine problems. There is only so much you can put up with before you finally snap. The first issue I had was a structural problem with the front… Read more

passenger door. It would not shut correctly and would keep bouncing out without locking - A known issue that affected early models of this car. At the time I also noticed the roof lining was not installed correctly. It was like it had been removed for some reason. Questioned this with dealer but of course, no-one knew anything about why it would be like that. I suspected the car had been damaged and fixed without my knowledge. Had the paint thickness tested and found the front-left paint to be thinner than the rest of the car. Audi said it was within range and nothing to worry about! Sure. I still have had issues with the camera system not displaying anything when reversing, or the image stutters, and now the images have a green tinge to them.

Steering column needed to have work done on it - needed rivets replaced - another known issue.

The list goes on and on. I have provided some TPI's (Technical Product Information) for you to ask your local Audi Dealer about if you are concerned.

The engine lost all of its coolant - known issue TPI 2047044. Needs a valve replaced and gaskets. Took nearly a week to fix. The most worrying issue is the engine knocking sound. If you have an early model Q7 4M with engine code of CRT 000001 to 073341 you will probably have this issue too. THE ENGINE NEEDS ALL 4 CAM SHAFTS REPLACED! Ask your dealer for a copy of TPI 2043172 for more info. I refused this repair as I have had enough.

The most recent issue is the car just slams on the brakes for no reason. I can be following another vehicle that turns off to the left and the car thinks I'm going to hit it. Had it happen with a motorcyclist behind me and they nearly ran into me. Also, when crossing over a busy road, the car stops in the middle of the oncoming traffic and the cars following you who also are trying to cross almost run into your rear. So dangerous and this car should have been tested before going out to market. Someone's family will be killed by this cars bad design. Audi offered to disable the feature until it can be fixed!

Has anyone else wondered why the 2016 model of this car wasn't released in some larger countries? I guess Australia was chosen as a "Test" to fix the issues before hitting the big markets.

I am demanding my money back. I purchased this car in good faith and expected a top quality vehicle but it is a piece of junk. Audi have refused any replacement or refund even though the Australian Consumer Law says I am fully entitled to it. They think I will just go away but NOT GOING TO HAPPEN AUDI!

Oh, and guess what Audi offered me as compensation..... 2 years extended warranty and 2 free services!

So, after them ignoring letters from my Lawyer, its off to court we go.

My final warning to you all - NEVER BUY AN AUDI. Please, I thought if you spend more on a car it will be better quality and better customer service. NOT TRUE. I could have brought 2 x Mazda CX-9's and kept one as spare!

Thanks for listening.

wonderful man! He helped me with a difficult finance and now I am driving my Audi Q7! Thanks Audi Five Dock.

Second part - about Audi Q7:

My car is 200KW, with sunroof, Assistance Package, 21 inch wheel. This car drives amazingly and technology is just mind-blowing! Love the sunroof and it is so big. I don't think, I can now live without the Assistance Package. If you are in Sydney and in traffic, you must have this package! Just relax and let the car drive you! The 21 inch wheel looks good but if you are going any off-roading, this is a no. Should've picked a 19 or 20 inch. The car drives amazing! 0-100 amazingly fast 6.5 seconds. Can actually fit 7 adults - may be smaller adults in the last row. More space left compared to other 7 seaters RRS, BMW X5, LandCruiser, Mercedes GLS. I have tried off-roading and even with the road tyres, the quattro pulled the car through a mountain! Love this car, highly recommended.

Great Family Car that delivers Performance – I took the plunge to purchase a base model 160kw no options version 2016 Q7 in June 2016 after evaluating various options such as, the Volvo XC 90 a top range Mazda CX 9, Land Rover Discovery and BMW X5. some what. As another test i drove the Nissan Pathfinder, which was terrible for me, as i hated the slippery CVT transmission, YUK and terrible driving dynamics.

I am a guy that enjoys good driving dynamics coupled with functionality, and i must say the Q7 left them all for dead with respect to driving dynamics. The 7 seats with power up and down is a breeze to use which still leaves enough room on the boot for a pram and other stuff.

The functionality of the MMI, phone, bluetooth, sat nav are easy and very intuitive, its hard to fault besides the voice control, sometimes it just doesn't understand me. The sound system is great for a base model and the 160kw engine is very perky, its really hard to pick the difference with performance against the 200kw engine.

I would have like the 200kw but the budget didn't allow it.

I usually put this car into corners a bit hard at times just because i like it, and the handling is excellent for a car this size. Look its not like putting a GTI into a corner but for what it is it left avery other SUV for dead with cornering and driving stability with the base model steel springs. Very impressive. Only negative in handling is very slight turbo lag at low speed. However when you compare the strength of this engine 3.0L Turbo diesel 500Nm to the other SUV's i mentioned especially the Volvo, i found that the Q7 engine performs with ease, where the 4cyl Volvo went OK but it felt like it was pushing a 4cyl engine for a SUV.

As far as cabin comfort well its great, sometimes you don't even know the engine is running its that quiet, and the family love it for long drives as its roomy and quite.

Overall i have no regrets purchasing a premium SUV like the Q7, the technology and performance is really prestigious, and i can highly recommend this car. If i had the budget i would buy the SQ7 which is nothing short of an amazing vehicle being a V8 Twin turbo diesel with 900Nm "Insane" which does 0-100 in 4.8sec, with pre spoolers on the Turbo. Awesome car!!!

As you can see i highly recommend this car after 18 months of driving one.

common for the new Q7 and according to the dealership, the problem is caused by DPF.

Honestly for the first 6 month the experience can be described as "terrible" and the car broke down on the 23rd of December which is on the night just before Christmas. however the the service from dealership is "exceptional" and they always keep me in the loop how Audi Australia going to solve this problem.

I have had 5 broken down during the first 6 month of ownership or during the first 10k. However the car seemed self healed/corrected there after. currently my odometer is 17500 km and from 10k to now there was ZERO problem in relation to the DPF.

I am still waiting for Audi Australia's response of "official fix" because I don't want that problem to re occur when my warranty runs out.

I searched and this problem seems only occur on diesel model which explains the DPF plays big part on it.

I give 4 star now but would like to give 5 if I could hear back from Audi Australia.

Other than this problem the car drives ultra smooth and quiet, with the Dynamic mode the car handles close to Porsche cayenne and the car is much much better than X5 in nearly every way.

When the car is finally towed, Audi Centre Mosman inform us that there is a problem with the Diesel Particulate Filter software that they would like to keep the car for four weeks for a software update that might fix the issue.

We ask for a new car replacement for the week old car with 500kms on it. Audi Mosman immediately fob us off to Audi Australia, who say that a new car that is undriveable is a minor issue from an ACL point of view.

We part ways with both Audi Centre Mosman and Audi Australia on whether a brand new car that goes into limp mode without warning after a week, needs four weeks of servicing and has a potentially indeterminate time to fix is a major fault or not. I am confident that if it comes to a court hearing that our position will carry the day.

My wife is very involved in several schools up our way and is telling everyone that she knows about her experiences with Audi.

How utterly laughable and what a third rate customer experience from both Audi Centre Mosman and Audi Australia. Have not had a phone call from anyone in a senior position at either organization.

My advice to you dear consumer is don't touch this car or the current Audi diesel range with a barge pole!

embarrassing moment when one of rear door handles fell off as I opened the door at the airport, for my guests. I also find the overhead sunglass container and glove box are literally unusable on the older model.

The newer model has a number of advantages over the older model. Many online reviews are positive and based only on the new condition. My decision to upgrade was also based on these reviews, particularly from the ones on YouTube, however, there are fewer reviews based on the experience of being a long-term owner of this car.

Undeniably there are a number of improvements and surprises in the new model and I did find the newer model is not as bulky as the previous one and sitting position is lower. The new Q7 is more adaptable to the city roads. The start and stop system is also much smoother and the diesel engine is much quieter. The presence worked fine to avoid collision. Yet the headlights are not as bright as the old model. I am not sure whether it is because the driver’s sitting position was higher. My score would have been 4.8 out of 5 within the first week of ownership, however, I found the navigation failed to read the media as it was shown on screen while driving interstate. It failed to read newly built roads and kept restarting until showing black screen. I thought it was just a minor issue and was still giving friends good feedback about this car.

I would not hesitate to recommend this car during the first 3 weeks of ownership, as all looked fantastic, until the fourth week of the ownership and then I found Achilles’s heel with this model. On a 44 degree day of mid-January, the front parking sensor stared to play up. It beeped continuously, even though the car was over 2 metres behind a car in front. A few hours later, the car suddenly fell into “limp home mode” driving at 50 km/hour. On the screen, it flashed the following message in sequence – Start/Stop/System fault. Function unavailable. Please contact workshop. Cruise control system: currently unavailable. See owner’s manual, then Drive system fault, please contact workshop. The symptom of the drive system fault is that the car lost acceleration and struggled to move when stopped at traffic lights. It was impossible to drive it over 60k/hr. I called the Audi roadside assistance, they instructed me to restart the engine and then gave up. They asked me to get the car towed in this terrible weather. What a joke for a prestige car of less than a month old with 3k on the clock! The next day they kept the car for a day at the Audi service centre and said that there is no fix at this stage. They applied ‘regeneration’ as a temporary solution and assured me the same issue would not appear again within the next 10K. They also told me that Audi Australia would contact me to make explanations. Audi Australia called me the next day and told me there is currently no fix to this problem. They will work closely to work on this problem and are unable to provide a definite date. I was worried about what could happen if the vehicle fell into limp home mode in an area with a high-speed limit They said you know how to do it if this problem happened on a highway. Ironically, the drive system fault reappeared within 2 weeks when they returned the car to me!

It appears that the problem is not a single incident. There are a few other owners have experienced the same issue. My problem was reported to Audi Australia 2 months ago and the car has been held by them for more than 6 weeks. They cannot fix it and refused to refund or replace. Apparently, Audi failed their obligations to the customers. Having sold a defective vehicle, unable to repair it and refused to refund or replace. What a great experience with Audi!

Wish I never looked at the Q7 – I have the same problem the car keeps going into limp home mode due to the DPS not regenerating. Audi Australia will do nothing about it and have told me to sit back and just wait for the fix to come from Germany. My car has broken down and most of the times needed to be towed six times in six months. Audi Australia has a really poor attitude towards this problem!  Show details

Terrible car and atrocious customer service – Bought this car new in May 2016. Overall nice interior and very spacious. Has plenty of positive reviews online (usually running 2nd to the volvo XC90). Main downsides include the size (especially width) and visibility. Access to 3rd row also cannot be performed by a small child. Biggest downside, however? Reliability and absolutely horrible… Read more

customer service. In 2 months this car has broken down on me 3 times. Each time a large yellow exclamation mark tells me to bring the car to a workshop as there is a drive system error. Twice i was told the DPF was clogged and wasn't burning emissions properly. Both times Audi tried to blame me for the fault. They tried to tell me that i was doing too many short trips in the car. So a family car isn't designed to do short trips??? They stuck by this comment despite the fact that i drive over 50km per day against traffic for work.

My experience however worsened further when Audi Australia's response to my complaint was to take the car to a different service dealer. I was incredulous that this was their solution, however when my car broke down (again), this is what i had to do. This was a month ago and the car is still in a (different) service dealership with an undiagnosed fault. They STILL refuse to accept that there is a fault with the car purely because they cannot find it.

So if you want a large 'premium' suv that breaks down consistently, and if you enjoy being blamed for your new car's problems then this is the car for you! Otherwise i would highly recommend you look elsewhere.

Update December 2016:

The last time the car broke down the dealer had it for 6 weeks, couldn't diagnose the fault, and the replaced a random part on the advice of Germany. They said it couldn't suffer the same fault again. Well... it has! (Amongst at least 6 other faults that appear on the dash).

To get a replacement Q7 vehicle each time, Audi make you drive to either the Sydney or Domestic Airport Hertz rental.

So in summary it has had 6 major faults, multiple minor faults, and no end in sight.

Know your rights! The ACCC states that there is a major problem with a product if:

it has a problem that would have stopped someone from buying it if they’d known about it (YES)

it is unsafe (YES - it broke down on a freeway and on a highway, with the whole family in the car)

it is significantly different from the sample or description (YES)

it doesn’t do what the business said it would, or what you asked for and can’t easily be fixed (YES!)

Audi are notorious for not taking complaints seriously. After exhausting communications with the dealer (Audi Five Dock dealer principal is hopeless), Audi Australia, Choice magazine and the ACCC, i have lodged a complaint with the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal. See you in court Audi!
