Avenger High Performance Automatic

Doesn’t work – Adjusted for hours on end but couldn’t get it to clean the bottom of my pool. Would clean the walls and then just lay on its back in the bottom and do nothing. After 2 months I got credited and went back to a Zodiac and it worked straight away. Show details
Complete Rubbish – Complete rubbish not worth the cardboard it comes in, mine has been in the pool only three times and after more than an hour of watching and adjusting just done the same thing not much cleaning just falling on side, stuck in the corner, floating and very little if any real cleaning. Beware under no circumstances go anywhere near this piece of… Read more
plastic as like me you will have thrown your money away, pool solutions the company who make this must have done no r&d on this piece of rubbish, add the extra money and buy quality a barracuda and get a real pool cleaner. I'm back to using my genius held together with tie tags, you get what you pay, I got hoses for all the money I paid not a pool cleaner. I bought this from mr pool man.
Very disappointing – Our trusty Zodiac worked well for some 5yrs before it needed replacing. The Avenger seemed like a similar product and reasonably priced. However, I found it very difficult to set up and could not get it to operate reliably. Our pool is a simple rectangle so nothing too complicated but no amount of fiddling around with the… Read more
suction/weights/floater/pool length etc etc over a good 4-5 weeks could get it to move around the pool and do its job. I also noted the floater had water in it as the sealant had failed. Out of frustration I took it back to the our local pool supplier who was fantastic and I upgraded to a newer model Zodiac, which is now working well.
Based on my experience with it I'd suggest you're better to spend a few hundred $ more and get something more reliable.
Good Value Cleaner – I was having difficulty getting the cleaner to work properly so I followed Ken from Brisbane's suggestions. It worked better but still not perfect. My pool is a lot smaller than Ken's (7.5 x 3.6m and 30,000 litres) so I tried the opposite. I took off 1 length of hose, moved the auto pilot to it's lowest position and moved the weight down close to… Read more
the head. 2 hours later and the pool is pristine. I also made sure all the jets were pointing to the bottom of the pool.
Absolute rubbish – I removed an older styled Zodiac pool cleaner to install this rubbish. I tweaked everything for days and still could not stop it from getting stuck on the steps. It's back it the box and going back to the Ebay seller tomorrow for a full refund. I wish I had read the terrible reviews on here before I committed to buy. I put the Zodiac back in the pool and no more problems. My advise, stay right away from it. Peter of W.A. Show details
My Advice, Do Not Buy This Pool 'Cleaner' – I think the last reviewer 'Ken' and I have different pool cleaners! My working career includes some years as a pool technician where I have dealt with all manner of pool cleaners, in my own pool I have had the same equipment for 15 years, and it worked amazingly well until spares no longer were available, but this Avenger has me beaten! I have… Read more
spent over four weeks on and off tweaking this device. I have used extra pipe, less pipe, more suction, less suction, moved the weight up and down, tried an extra weight, adjusted the auto-pilot, tried a roto-swivel to take twist from the vac hose, tried a Barracuda suction controller, turned my variable speed pump down to lower revs, tried twisting the hose, straightening the hose sections if they had the slightest kink, pointed the water inlets in all directions, I can't think of what else to do to get it to work to an acceptable degree of functionality.
The issue with this thing is it is way too sensitive, to everything! It works only within a very precise range of suction, it is affected by the topography of the pool bottom, it reacts if a pool hose segment is twisted even slightly differently to what it was before, if the wind changes direction, if the suction controller gets a small leaf caught in it (which happens all the time!) It is totally unforgiving and unworthy of the name 'High Performance" Pool cleaner in my opinion.
It is cheaper than most cleaners on the market, but I am sad to say you get what you pay for here. By the way, The Pool Man, Smithfield, Queensland had an almost complete unit missing just the skirt available for a carton of beer. He says he will not sell another unit. High praise from a professional eh! I'll drink the beer I think.
My advice to the Avenger designers is to go back to the design desk and work out how to make this thing more user friendly, it is part way there but for an average Joe, this device is way to difficult to set up.
Why is it other devices can work on full pressure, and with hardly a tweak, will cover the majority of the pool surface and clean even large leaves in many cases. I have read defensive responses to customer reviews by people I suspect are affiliated with this company where they apportion the failure of this device to work satisfactorily on the customer. Wrong, wrong, wrong. It is the design of this device that is at fault wholly and solely.
It's not junk, I think as a pot plant holder it would work just fine ;)
Quite satisfied with its performance. Seems good value for a cheaper price – After 3 days use my pool, it is now very clean. My testing to get it set right for my pool included: 1.The hose length [2 more than suggested], 2.The weight ring set at the very end of second tube, 3.Auto pilot in no.2 position, 4.Suction valve 2/3 to 3/4 shut to still allow for good pool surface water debris skimming to the skimmer box. climbs all walls well, even in the deep end [but best with suction valve almost fully shut for deep end wall cleaning], and it doesn't ever seem to get stuck anywhere.
My pool is 11.5m by 4.5m and is a smooth-surfaced marbleite/cement pool with a good radius on all its corners.
The Avenger picks up most leaves if it centres over them in its pass but rarely longer sticks.
It has worked fairly quietly 6 hours a day in conjunction with my solar heating system for the pool. The main pump to the sand filter powering it is a 3/4 H.P. pump.
It's the first automatic pool cleaner I've ever owned. The relatively low price, its claimed performance and being Australian made, were the main reasons I chose to buy it. It certainly fills my needs well.
Piece of Junk – I have had one of these things for about a year now and frankly its rubbish: constantly gets stuck, skates on its side when 'cleaning' the middle of the pool, flotation thing on the top leaks. In short a huge disappointment. I have spent hours: moving the weight, adjusting the bypass valve, pulling it out of corners etc etc - it has driven me… Read more
crazy. The sales rep even came out to look at it and that did no good. Have now given up on it. Here is my advice: do not buy this product if you want a clean and hassle free pool.
Terrible Pool Cleaner – Bought this a few months ago, it didn't work well from the start. Have spent countless hours trying to tweak it, but still no good. It is constantly getting stuck, falling upside down, climbing the walls, or even leaving the water as it climbs and sucking in air. I have tried all combinations of the troubleshooting techniques. I would not recommend you buy this system, it is money down the drain. Cheap Doesn't work in my pool

Very disappointed – Doesn't suck properly, only moves in one area then gets stuck. My husband tried adjusting it to no avail. The reason we have this system is because we've moved to this property and had to buy a whole new pool system as the old one wasn't working, The person at the pool shop said they were as good as the other brands. Will do anything to have my… Read more

Can't stop it getting stuck – This machine looked fantastic, but unfortunately it keeps getting stuck on every corner, step of the pool. Continually have to go out and check that it isn't stuck. Unfortunately the most I can leave it without getting stuck is a about 10 minutes. I have constantly check on it. I have spent numerous hours watching it, making adjustments, etc, but… Read more
to no avail. I attached my old barracuda to the Avenger Pipes and it worked perfectly. So unfortunately I think I have wasted my money. Btw I am an engineer so believe I have some knowledge of dynamics, but can't find a way to stop constant getting stuck in corners or on steps
