Avida Topaz

Heavy and over priced - AVOID – We had over Avida topaz for 2 years. On our 2nd trip from Vic to QLD we travelled 250km and when pulling into the caravan park we noticed a hot smell. The brakes had cracked on the van. Luckily Albury had an Avida service centre!!! Then further on our trip we noticed that the front kitchen started detaching from the wall. We travelled only on… Read more
sealed A roads. When we got back Avida couldn't find an issue. They did not pay out on the cracked brakes despite always being serviced. Then we did a 1 week trip around western Victoria. We got back and had the van serviced. Upon picking it up we went away again immediately. We noticed the floor at the front of the van had bubbled. There was a water leak. Obviously this had to do with the van cabinetry detaching from the front. We notified Avida immediately. We dropped the van in. They had it for MONTHS!!!! They refused to do anything. In the end we asked for it back as we traded it on a Jayco. They put the flooring back down SO SO terribly. Honestly a 3 year old could have done better. Denied any accountability. Search Avida Topaz for the refund on the exact same van. Why is there no accountability for this industry? In short. Stay away from Avida...
Oh wow, how much? – Watched a YouTube video report on this caravan., these must be garbage with nil customer support
Extremely comfortable roomy van – Upgraded to a second hand 2019 Topaz for the layout and extra room the slide out provides. Travelled extensively in all weather and the van has held up well, gas heater is awesome. Tows and travels well at around 95-100kms per hour Overall extremely happy Show details
Heartbroken – I am writing this review with tears in my eyes. My husband and I purchased a 50th Anniversary Topaz 4 -5 years ago. We purchased based on the fact it was Australian Made, and we wanted to support the Australian industry. After using the caravan 2 times once to drive down to Darwin and once to drive back to Adelaide, we have found that through a… Read more
leak (starting from the boot, which was obviously not sealed correctly, and elsewhere), our Caravan is now a write off, as there is rot in the entire flooring of the Caravan. This is all through our insurance company, as we contacted Avida, and even though we were still within the structural warranty time period, wanted nothing to do with us. I am absolutely disgusted with the lack of empathy and the treatment we have received from this company. There is a lot more to the story, which Avida knows and is not necessary to be mentioned here. Absolutely heartbroken ..
Very poor after sales service on a Longreach Motor Home – I bought a Lomgreach motor home. My main problem is dealing with warranty work. Currently bubbles appeared on the driver’s side door where it had been repaired before "not from the time it was delivered to me until now". They have blamed Isuzu, the dealer, their warranty repairer and me. Now that is a $280.000 motor home and to me refusing to fix… Read more
the problem is totally unacceptable. Will come up with any excuse and blame everybody else for it. I had other issues as well and some haven't been fixed and now the warranty has expired.
Works for us! – We purchased our Avida Topaz in September 18 and have had a trip across Australia and one other small journey. In that time the Topaz has been exactly what we were looking for, slick and comfortable. It tows well and provides the two of us a very nice home away from home. We have had one problem with a small hairline crack in the molded… Read more
fiberglass front of the van and that was fixed by the Avida agent in Perth, Bergman's Auto Group, who in my view, were very competent and thorough. I noticed that they had also performed other work on the van and was advised that this was at the request of Avida i.e. service bulletins or the like.
Either way we have no complaints and the van is everything it was advertised to be.
We did have the selling dealer make two changes to the van electrics prior taking delivery. We had the dealer install a second 'house' battery to give us a bit more capability. We also had them remove and replace the 12 pin plug in favor of a large 7 pin round to match our vehicle and then fit an Andersen plug specifically to handle the current draw when charging the two house batteries whilst on the move.
The Topaz is, for me, quite lengthy compared to what I was used to and I did need me to change my driving style to suit. That said it will travel comfortably at 100km/h and is certainly stable at that speed, but for the sake of fuel economy I usually travel at around 90km/h. Mind you I have done a number of trip legs at the 100km/h mark when the 'wind's' are favorable. The van does not seem to be affected by large trucks as they pass but no doubt the prevailing wind conditions either assist or complicate that process.
In the relatively short time we have had this caravan we have only had a few nights where is rained so I really can't say we have given it a strong test in adverse weather but it seems to be pretty thoroughly sealed against water ingress.
All considered we have gotten what we paid for and we are happy with our purchase.
avida topaz insect trap – i have noticed when lights are on and and you have insect screens down you have one of the best insect traps that has ever been built, your van fills up with insects from a small size to insect the size of a matchstick, makes living in the caravan almost impossible . have been told the domestic windows Avida choose to install in the topaz are not… Read more
suited or designed for Australian conditions .Good van with a major problem, would not spend $100K on another one until they come clean and recall all those affected. Come on Avida fix this disaster and maintain the good name you could have.
Never ever buy Avida again – The water ingress and floor is damaged.. what a piece of poorly constructed garbage.. Show details
