Basic Trailers

Poor communication on what should have been a straight forward purchase of an in stock trailer. Communication was misleading/poor resulting in over 8hrs travelled for nothing. Absolutely no attempt to negotiate a satisfactory outcome. Owner was more worried about where it was going to be stored after we withdrew from sale! Love my trailer – I got a trailer from these guys and the service was amazing the whole time. I wanted to customise it a lot but they were super helpful and it wasnt long until i had a trailer with heaps of extras. The rep that did the handover guided me through the whole thing and before i knew it i was off! Love this beast of a trailer - cant recommend enough!

Quality service and trailers that are built to last! – I ordered a caged 8x5 trailer to replace a 7x4 that had seen better days 35 years ago, and your talented crew made some minor adjustments with no trouble. The schedule for production was easy to understand and to be Frank, didn’t bother me at all. was pleasantly surprised - my experience with Basic Trailers was awesome! They were super friendly and really helpful, especially since I didn't know much about trailers. And the 7x4 trailer I ended up getting is perfect for my needs. All in all, I'm really happy with my shopping experience!

Consumer affairs and multiple other Trailer companies backed this. When approaching "Basic" Trailers about this measurement issue and telling them this trailer is no good to us , they washed their hands of it and said there was nothing they could do. No refund, no fixing the problem, nothing! We spoke with [Name Removed] the manager who was arrogant and unprofessional, even lying to our faces making up stories saying he showed us through the yard and measured up other Trailers. A complete lie! Which infruiated us. We never went through any trailer measurements, only the mower box measurements. Which by the way you flogged us an extra $500 to reduce the size.

The paint work was rushed and unexceptable. They said "we can give you a can of paint to take home. Not the sort of response you'd expect after paying $13,000 for a trailer. Shelving was also not measured properly and tie down points were missed. We were forced to sell the trailer at a massive loss.

You should not be allowed to get away this sort of mistreatment! And i hope my review helps other people avoid your company and fall for your traps. I have no doubt that your response to this review will also be lies and utter crap just like the trailer you built for us.

Not recommended – I don't recommend this trailer builder company. I ordered very expensive trailer #28.000 and paid on full when the order taken. I get 6 weeks lead time. After when I asking for the update on 25th July the company said the trailer build start on 8th Aug and few days needed. the start maybe weeks away. Don't trust this company if you have a jobs and you would like to buy one trailer for these and you calculate with they words just lost your time.

Rude customer service – This is the first tine I have ever felt the need to write a review. All I wanted was a trailer and they made me feel like an idiot because I asked 'too' many questions so to come back once I was serious about buying a trailer. Even though I am literally looking at buying a trailer right now.

Not fit for purpose, poor quality control & unroadworthy – Not fit for purpose, poor quality control & unroadworthy. many phone calls, emails & photographs demonstrating the defect, Basic Trailers reluctantly agreed to assist with the cost of rectifying the problem, but have only paid for the 13.8kg of ballast that I have added to fix the problem. After numerous emails about compensation, they have steadfastly refused to pay even one cent for the 8 hours of labour that I provided in diagnosing, designing & installing the ballast to fix the tilting problem on my trailer. In addition the axle U bolts were only providing about 75mm of ground clearance instead of the required minimum of 100mm making the trailer unroadworthy. I have not even received an apology for the inconvenience & frustration that these matters have caused. Basic Trailers test their trailers when only supported by the jockey wheel & take no responsibility for any problems when connected to a towbar. Basic Trailers know that I would have travelled approx 800km for them to perform this alteration, so I assumed that they were keen to assist in minimising my costs. Basic Trailers will not accept that it would have cost them around $200 of internal labour expenses to fix my trailer "under warranty" & are refusing to compensate me for a similar amount. This could have been a great experience if Basic Trailers had behaved in a customer focused manner rather than continuing to deny that there was ever a problem with the trailer & at the same time refusing to provide me with any compensation.

PS. Numerous other quality control matters that affected my buying experience were: 1. The number plate carrier had to be relocated to stop it from dragging on the ground when driving through standard driveway entries. 2. The wiring for the number plate light had to be restrained to stop it from chaffing on the chassis when lowering the tailgate. Fixed by me. 3. The main wiring loom was rubbing on brake cables. Fixed by me. 4. The brake cables were rubbing on the leaf springs. Fixed by me. 5. The jockey wheel was mounted too high. Fixed by me. 6. The incorrect version of floor mounted lashing rings were installed. 7. The RH wheel bearing was incorrectly adjusted & nearly caught fire. Adjusted by the RAA.

No paint primer on trailer – Dont forget everyone wanting to purchase a trailer from Basic Trailers. Make sure you get it in writing that they will use a paint primer before it is painted. I purchased my trailer in October and guess what..... No Primer had been used on trailer. I found areas underneath my trailer that were bare metal. I have previously posted a review about this but guess that review is now further down the list. Show details

Not happy at all – Very dissapointed in the trailer my partner and I purchased, paid alot of money for a poor workmanship, my partner took it back for a variety of problems and was treated a little unfairly. I will not be recommending my family and friends to purchase there. Show details

a few pro's & cons i found with Basic trailers, Pros: well constructed, a tour around the workshop is offered, the staff are great to deal with, reasonably priced trailers locally made. Cons: 1, Splatter from welding could have been removed prior to painting. 2, Angle grinder used to grind flat end plate so cage would sit flat once fitted "maybe should have been altered whilst being made" 3, Both the gates on cage have to be lifted up when opening and closing so as not to drag across the top of the trailer, this i found to be annoying, especially after paying $500 for the cage. Nit picker ? maybe.. but i do pay attention to detail. Do i recommend Basic trailers ? Yes, overall happy with my purchase apart from the "scraping"cage doors.
