ALDI Bauhn 4k UHD TV 2016 Models

Not happy – Sound stopped working after hardly any use. Wasn't happy obviously. Just out of warranty. It's a shame because for a cheap unit the picture was actually ok. Wouldn't buy one again of course though.

one under normal conditions. The sound is bearable but the weakest link: very few TVs really have decent sound, but it is slightly below average even then. Also the headphone jack sound is terrible but I never use it. I connect a hifi whenever possible so don't really consider these an issue. 6 years ago it replaced a tv that died twice in 12 months. I feel I have already got my moneys worth and have no inclination to replace it any time soon.

Failed soon after warranty expired – Bauhn 65” 4K UHD LED LCD SmartTv. MADE IN CHINA. The capacitors on the internal Power Printed Circuit Board “Popped” The components seem to be deliberately rated to fail. Some of the soldering to the board very amateurish and shows signs of rework at the Chinese factory. The Remote Alpha / Numerical key board has never worked. There are plenty of ports to connect the required devices. With A/V, HDMI and optical audio all working well. There are also side connections available for plugging in temporary devices.

While the picture was okay out of the box, the quality was improved significantly with adjustment based on advice from others - you really need to adjust the picture to get the best form it. HD and 4k videos show the quality of the screen and look fantastic. Movies, Sport and TV shows all looked good on the screen.

As others have noted the sound quality of the built in speakers is very poor. This is not an issue for me as I have it connected to a surround sound system. I would not use this TV with the inbuilt speakers only as the sound is weak and hollow.

Overall the unit was very good value for money, reliable and has an excellent picture quality.

SOUND QUALITY

I've found the sound quality of the built-in speakers to be better than most. All of the latest ultra thin TVs suffer from poor sound - it's simply the nature of the beast. To generate big sound, speakers have to move big air. The low profile speakers used in all ultra thin TVs simply do not have the volume of air in front of the speakers to generate the big sound that a big screen warrants. Some of the top brands do have sound enhancement technology built-in, but even those, in my opinion, aren't as good as a better set of external speakers. I've connected the Bauhn TV to a sound bar and just leave the TV volume set to 0.

CONNECTIONS

The unit has 4 HDMI ports, 2 USB ports, standard audio out and digital audio out. That should be more than enough connectivity to satisfy most people. We currently have a ChromeCast Ultra, a games console, an Android media player, a Yamaha sound bar and an external hard drive connected and we still have a spare port.

EASE OF SETUP

The TV fits onto a standard sized wall mounting bracket and the ports are in relatively easy to locate positions. The buttons are easy to reach on the side of the unit (for those times when Mr. Nobody runs off with the remote). Initial setup was relatively quick and the unit accurately detected all available Free To Air TV stations.

OVERALL

Considering the price we paid, the picture/sound quality, the connectivity and the ease of set up, I don't think we could have gotten better value with any other brand. We're very impressed, as is everyone who's seen it running.

It's big, but it's junk – Don't be fooled by the TV promoting 4K UHD - Australian programming does not yet broadcast to that standard, and where more expensive TVs will downsample the display to match the lower resolution broadcasting so as to maintain a high quality picture, the Bauhn does not, so you have this enormous screen in front of you with a dreadful picture. … Read more

They actually warn the user in the manual that as a result of the unit displaying the lower resolution broadcast to a 4K UHD screen it may result in poor picture quality.

The sound is tinny and low quality and the picture adjustments are very limited, with too much contrast in the picture that can't be adjusted adequately. Only 1 HDMI port.

We actually expected it to at least display the kid's PS4 and Wii ok, but again it was a disappointment.

We bought this at $800 and returned it after 2 days. The one upshot is that Aldi have a very good return policy..

Lesson learned - never buy a TV without having the opportunity to view an operational display model.

As others mentioned this is not a smart tv – This picture quality is the only good thing about this TV. The rest is poor including sound not sinking with video. The smart apps either don't work or crash. Netflix cannot load from the installed web browser. what a disappointing experience this tv has been. you are lucky its no longer for sail.  Show details

Very slow on Smart searches – The TV does not have good picture quality, it has three HDMI ports, there is a bit of problem on channel search, now my TV only works on Ethernet and have problem connecting with WiFi Show details

Short life span – Bought this 65 inch LED TV from Aldi and only it has only lasted for two years. Took it to the repair guy who says its not worth repairing as repair costs are equal to purchase price. Won't ever buy BAUHN products again. smart TV, it's not that smart and I have had to use the Xbox for several apps, such as netflix. Not all codecs are supported on USB.

All in all, ok, but only good for a limited time, before I got sick of all the lag time and unsupported apps/features that required workarounds.

Faulty Tv – Definitely not a smart tv. Couldnt access features. Just seem to go around in circles. Sound seems ok. Bought a sound bar and couldnt connect via wifi. Picture went after 25 months – It is a basic TV, not smart, and was a good price ($599). Tried connecting my PC through HDMI but this upset the TV picture. Otherwise, the picture and sound were good. Not great – Were do I start. The TV is slow. And it doesn't connect to the internet when you want it to. It crashes a lot and sometimes doesn't respond. It freezes and you have to do a hard crash on the TV. Not worth the money you pay for the thing.  Show details

Absolute worst purchase I have ever made – The antenna port seemed to be causing problems with the picture and when I wiggled the antenna the port fell out after only having the TV for two years. Can't believe how cheap these are now days – We all forget that a TV of this size a few years ago cost well over 5 grand and now these are not even over a thousand dollars! Turned off for no reason, lost channels and can't retune, very slow reactions to remote control, low – Picture quality poor, often pixelated, sound poor. I won't buy any more TV from Adli – I had bought three TVs from Aldi from different time and different Size. My Bauhn 65" screen completely turn to black after few flickers after the warranty up. I had another two smaller TV - one is 42" and the other is 32" had the same problem- not working after 1 to 2 years.. Easy to use tv – The picture quality is perfect! We have had no issues with 4K quality or playing really old vhs tapes. All comes up super well and the old stuff isn’t to grainy.
