Not happy – Sound stopped working after hardly any use. Wasn't happy obviously. Just out of warranty. It's a shame because for a cheap unit the picture was actually ok. Wouldn't buy one again of course though.

Short life span – Bought this 65 inch LED TV from Aldi and only it has only lasted for two years. Took it to the repair guy who says its not worth repairing as repair costs are equal to purchase price. Won't ever buy BAUHN products again. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY – Tv seemed ok when I first brought it but as time went by it started to flicker just after the 1 year warranty is up. Picture quality is average There is a lag when turning Tv on It's a waste of money I wouldn't recommend this tv to anyone. Now I can see why it's been discontinued.  Show details

Not bad – Was impressed by the price. .the only let down i can find is the quality of sound. It is very tinny...went and bough a sound bar and that certainly fixed the problem..also the remote died after 8 months..but rang the company and they sent us a replacement no questions asked. Quality of the picture is excellent. .  Show details

Bauhn Aldi 65" 4K TV – Purchased this TV for the listed $800 over a year ago, it was an upgrade from a brand name 42' LED. Best TV I have ever owned, and most people can't believe it only cost $800 a year ago. Picture quality is great, and after tweaking with the menu's advanced settings, I havn't had to touch the settings again. Connected with a chromecast, it plays… Read more

Netflix and Youtube excellently, and plugs straight into the HDMI, and USB port right next to it.

The only issue is some banding which I have read only affects certain batches, unfortuantely, mine suffers from this issue. The banding is mostly unnoticable except for in grey scenes, but for $800, it's an amazing TV.

Good for price – It's a good tv for price only thing is pixels aren't real good compared to more. Expensive TVs but I'm happy with it & it's lasted a long time without any problems, needs better speakers. It has enough HDMI ports mine isn't a smart tv so I would recommend getting 1 that's a smart tv  Show details

Beautiful picture & great sound and quality – The Bahun (Aldi) 65" 4K Ultra HD Smart TV is fantastic. Perfect picture, great sound and has enough ports for your use. The operating system and apps are user friendly and of excellent quality. It's definitely value for money and would reccommend this TV to anyone interested in buying a Smart TV. Unbeatable quality & price!  Show details

Great TV, but no sound after a year, the head phone outlet works, we soldier on – All good, BIG lovely picture, poor sound, got soundbar from Kogan but that died got refund thru bank, now use computer speakers in to headphone outlet Exactly 1 year old, Tempo was very helpful on the phone about the no sound thing, have all the numbers, was validated, have Case number but nothing so far. starting to worry, my drop saw is getting hot, I think the laser guide is blowing up. then there is the Doogee mobile phone, no sound, I am starting to think there is little quality control in a race for lower prices. Am I guilty for buying items that are low price? ALDI needs to take control of Tempo as there are now more negatives than positives. I just can't believe Tempo has not responded, as they are killing the ALDI brand

Exellent Large TV at a bargain price – Had to buy this big TV because of the Price - less than $800! So far it has run perfectly and given no problems. The picture is so big that scars and rashes on faces show up very clearly. The only criticism I have is that there is NO stereo sound output connection on the rear I/O sockets apart from a digital optical socket that few customers would be able to use.

actors need new make-up – Picture excellent, sound very good, 3 HDMI ports, price excellent compared with other T.V. brands of comparable size. 65" 4K way to go. DVD's never looked better. Remote control could do with softer corners. Going to another one when they come back in store for the man cave. Bought other products from this company warranty 3yrs. lasted 3yrs. 4mths. Interested to see if this T.V. last longer.  Show details

Value for money is 5 star and is punching above its weight – This Aldi model is simple to setup and the remote is easy to understand and operate. Every room in a house has different lighting and this TV has enough settings to achieve a very good picture in a variety of lighting conditions. depending on your decor and position of the TV there is enough settings to achieve a 3 star rating. Add a cast device to one of the 4 HDMI ports and you will be a Smart buyer with a great value unit, Being such a large screen and if the TV station is not broadcasting in HD it can be a little grainy without fiddling with the settings. Include the Aldi 60 day return policy (no questions asked) makes it a no brainer to give this TV a chance, You won't be disappointed.

Worth taking the punt on this one – Very satisfied with Aldi's sub $800 4k tv. While I'm sure sitting it next to a more expensive brand-name unit would probably highlight some shortcomings, I have no complaints about its quality or ease of use. It looks good and works well. With the technology of tvs changing so often and prices continually dropping, I don't know why anyone would… Read more

spend thousands of $$$ on something they can pick up at Aldi for under a grand.

Seriously, to the buyers out there used to name-brand tvs, it is worth the risk. If you do pick up a lemon, you have 60 days to refund or exchange. If it starts playing up after that, the warranty covers it for 12 months. I'm just banking on mine lasting at least 2 years, then I'll be happy to replace it with the new version.

Excellent for movies, very good value for money! – Pros: - Excellent colours via calibrated PC input (HDMI) - Light weight and unassuming style can fit into any home - Good for HD TV - Works well with $10 High Speed (HDMI 2.0) cable, full 4k at 60Hz from PC. - Absolute bargain Cons - Not good for PC gaming, gives black screen after resolution change, even with scaling set to GPU. -… Read more

"Dynamic contrast" crushes blacks and must be turned off each time via service menu (1147 > Picture Setting > PQ Advanced > VIP > off).

- Service menu changes does not save after power off.

- SD TV looks really bad.

- Passable built-in sound

For $AU800 there's nothing better I could think of buying for movie watching, just need to pair with a good set of speakers/home theatre to enjoy a night in.

Two failed units – Two failed units. Both had no power at all, one had a crack in the base of the screen too. No point going for a 3rd. Going back for a refund, and going to pick up one of the 55" LGs for a tad more instead. Unfortunate that I wasted time and money going backwards and forwards between ALDI and home.  Show details

Nice surprise and very different experience to the prior 65" Bauhn panel from Aldi – I've been looking to switch out my projector, as I was finding it unusable during the day time. Been on the look out for large panels, and since I have been eyeing 65 inches and larger, 4K resolution is preferred. So when Aldi first came out with the 65 inch "smart tv" by Bauhn, I tried it out. At an awesome price of $1,199, it featured; laggy… Read more

UI, limited smart functionality, mainboard defects and limited colour configurability. So that has since gone back within the 60 day guarantee period. I purchased a Sony 55 inch X8500C as the alternative, being a much more pleasant experience. Basically a year later, Aldi is doing it again, this time 65 inches for a non-smart TV for an insane $799. Before getting into the details, this panel by Bauhn again is totally different - but still may suffer from poor manufacturing quality control processes.

In summary, this panel is staying. Purchasing either AppleTV or an Android TV box, and I'll be set.

I'll discuss a few topic separately:

Appearance

I am impressed in the appearance for this price. The bezels are slim at only approximately 20mm all around. There isn texture to the bezels, so its a plain and simple look. The frame and TV overall has a significant amount of metal being used, rather than plastics. The IR sensor is very basic, and does distract from the appearance of the whole TV. The branding at the bottom is discrete. The panel feet are basic and simple enough too. There's nothing wrong with the appearance and doesn't scream cheapness all around.

Colour

The standard on screen options to adjust colour tone, brightness and contrast are acceptable. You should be able to obtain an acceptable setup. This panel also has a hidden service menu, which opens up the configurability of this panel right up. With the service menu, you should have access to setup the panel as you please.

Configurability

As mentioned, the on screen options are reasonable. Providing a good level of options to set. The hidden service menu, gives a whole lot more.

Sound

The sound is no much different from other TV speakers. They're pretty awful, but speakers from larger name brands are marginally better anyway. In both instances, it's advised you purchase a sound bar at a minimum.

Brightness

Going back to the original reason for looking for a large panel, is the projector brightness. This LED panel is very bright, and actually much brighter than my newly purchased Sony.

Weight

It's relatively light weight at around 25KG. So most wall mounts should not fall off the wall.

Packaging

I do recall from the last Aldi 65 inch TV, having to basically destroy the packaging to get the panel out. This new 65 inch tv, the packaging is similar to those seen from big name brands ... e.g. like my Sony. Simply pull out the plastic handles at the bottom of the box, and then the packaging slides away with the TV standing on the base of the box. Very nicely done ...

Panel

From the service menu you can see manufacturing details, like the panel ID. From most reports, these panels were manufactured by Samsung. Whether or not they made it to Samsung's retail line is unknown. But it's good to know that these parts do have good heritage.

User experience

The menu system is basic. You have your FTA, sound, image and general settings. Overall it works as designed, be it basic it does it well. The menu system is snappy. The channel guide is basic but works too. The personal video recording works too - not totally intuitive. This is a very different experience to the prior 65 inch "smart tv" by Bauhn, which was slow laggy.

Free-to-air broadcasts

FTA broadcasts in Australia are poor (in content and resolution). Most of the channels are actually 576i SDTV. You have to understand that 576i is a suitable resolution for a 15 inch screen. So we have 15" image blown up to 65" ... you are never going to get a clear image. The best you can hope for it a clean image, without too much artificial artefacts generated. Resizing the image up, is also known as upscaling ... but this is just making an image spread over a larger area. Upscaling cannot generate clarity from nothing.

That being said, the FTA image looks fine. Imo, turn off all the sharpening, so you have an image which is just stretched to the screen size. I won't be sharp, but if you want a sharp image from FTA, buy a tiny screen ... not a 65".

Input lag

I haven't performed any scientific tests. But I have hooked up a GTX1070 running 4k@60Hz over HDMI 2.0, and there was no perceivable input lag when playing FPS games.

Defects

These will vary from panel to panel. The panels are likely to be a rejected batch from Samsung. Be it they failed quality control, or specifications were not as expected.

My specific panel has a single dead pixel, only seen at 30cm away. So there's no way I will be able to see this in normal viewing distance.

The panel has a slight convex bend to the panel. Opposite to what you see in curved TVs. Again, the bend is slight and only noticeable if I inspect the panel from the side ... front on I cannot see it at all.

Features

ARC, nice but not tested

PVR, works simple, but FTA content would mean I would never use it anyway.

HDMI 2.0, nice meaning 4K @ 60Hz is supported. I tested it and works well.

HDCP 2.2, bonus to allow for 4K content in the future ... like Netflix at 4K. Not even my Sony screen has it (newer models do though).

Rubish – Very obvious 2' lines running from top to bottom of entire screen. Large 2' band of white down full length of right hand side of screen no pixels there obviously faulty. responsive remote and software.

The price reflects the fact that there are no Apps. or network connections with this unit, but who cares when you can just chuck in a $30 Chromecast or Roku stick and have them all available!

Recording to USB stick looks simple enough (not tried it yet) and the EPG is quick.

2 issues:

Some Lip Sync issues which there is a software upgrade for, I installed it but it didn't fix the issue!

No dts stream is output from the Optical connection on the TV, big problem if like me you have no HDMI inputs on your Hi-Fi system!

October 20th 2017 Update: good TV for the price

A 65" 4K tv for under $900 is pretty crazy right! so I bought one of these last October, so just over a year ago, it's been a very good tv apart from one aspect, the picture, I have always had a bright shadow on a dark screen in the left top corner, its pretty big and is black on a white screen, but even so I didn't return the TV, mainly because of the time it seems to take to get repairs done. So I've lived with the defect and to be honest it doesn't distract me much when the tv is actually showing content, dark scenes are the worst for it. I figured that for $799 I could put up with the fault, nearly took it in last week but discovered the warranty had run out 2 days before hahaha :)

Can't beat the price for the size

- Aldi 60 days no questions asked exchange policy.

Cons:

- 60 Hz refresh rate

- The screen is not completely black there are some white spots when showing black scenes.

- It's a bit heavy

- The first one I got from Aldi had a cracked screen, luckily I got an easy replacement for a working one.

If you want a 5 inch TV that will not cost too much, get this one.

the box, but tweaking a few settings has got FTA looking pretty respectable now, especially the 1080i HD channels. I found that turning the backlighting down to 50 fro 100 ( you need to access the service menu, press menu then 1147 ) helped clean the picture up a lot. 1080P from Youtube or the PS3 I have hooked up looks perfect, very hard to find fault. Can't wait to try some 4K video, just waiting on a suitable 4K player to purchase. Yes, the in built speakers are very ordinary, but I run my sound through an amp and external speakers anyway.
