Just sold my magic 79 Corvette to Bernie. Bernie followed through and stuck to his word. After being stuffed around by dreamers, who either couldn't raise the money or needed permission from their partner, it was a pleasure to do business with him.
Great Guy to deal with. Second purchase and hopefully a third in the near future – Second Purchase I've made with Bernie. He is a Genuinely nice guy. Very easy to deal with. No pressure sales tactics as I know what I want and Bernie seems to have what I need. Thanks again!! Would buy again someday!!
Bernie gets it wrong again – After reading bernies response relating to my negative review he cant even get that right. He suggests i have relisted the car as a genuine gt...if you did your homework bernie which you obviously havent i have sold this car at a loss of 10k and the new owner has listed it... after extensive rust repair typical response from a very shady dealer
A guy that knows his stuff! – Had been looking for a nice VK for years. Bernie had a nice one I fell in love with. Easy to do business with considering I live in Darwin. Good to see someone that knows classic cars and gives honest advice
Bernie Smith dodgy practices – I see Bernie Smith is still misleading his clients He is currently advertising one of his cars as in amazing order for its age and drives and runs well, even though there are three separate reports on the car that says there are extensive major problems. Don't deal with Bernie Smith he definitely has the gift of the gab and unfortunately can turn the most into believing him. Regards Rupert Driffield

Not what my father purchased and out of pocket?????? – My Father bought a VK blue meanie replica from HIM worst decision he has ever made. The car turns up and he is pretty happy until he starts showing a few of his mates in the car club. No spare wheel of which Bernie Smith promised he would put one in. (PICTURES ATTACHED) For a car that Bernie Smith says has been meticulously restored buy the previous owner he must not have looked the car over before listing it. One of the clubs members thinks the car has the wrong engine in it to the one Bernie Smith had advertised it with. Any one who knows VKs KNOWS they only came out with a 308 not a 253???.At this stage my father has had the car for about 8 days. They get the car up on a hoist and his worst nightmare comes true the cars ENGINE BLOCK has 253 stamped on it. The car is advertised as having a good strong reliable 4.9 litre V8 which this clearly is not. (SEE ADVERT ATTACHED). My farther rang Bernie Smith and was told how would he know i am no mechanic nothing about it all my father wants is his money back and for the car to be returned. Because the car was ADVERTISED WRONG because Bernie Smith did not inspect the car before he sold it only going of what previous owner told him. My husband personally rang Bernie Smith himself as my father had just had a heart operation and did not need this stress in his life. My husband sent him pictures of the engine block and his advert for the car (PICTURE ATTACHED). Bernie said it would not be a problem for him to get his money back because the car would be easy for him to sell again. The next morning my father got a call from Bernie Smiths ( ACCOUNTANT ) telling him as far as he was concerned the sale was legit and thats the end of conversation. He hung up after my farther said it had the WRONG ENGINE. After telling me this i got my husband to ring him again only to find out that Bernie Smith has blocked his number and wont answer texts emails or calls at all. My husband still tried to call on my phone and email him for about 4 weeks with no reply. He was hoping my father would just give up and keep the lemon he was sold by Bernie Smith. My husband engaged a solicitor on my father,s behalf because he did not need this stress after his heart operation. First BERNIE SMITH was sent a letter of demand with no reply. Then a court house mediation was set up of which BERNIE SMITH did not attend. By this stage it had nearly cost over 9 THOUSAND DOLLARS with no outcome. Finally we had a court date set with nearly 9 months of backwards and forwards between solicitors. By this stage Bernie had changed his defense and was on his SECOND solicitor still hoping my father would give up on his refund. Finally without it having to go to court and costing them both more money my father got his refund and some. He is still out of pocket because of Bernies IGNORANCE AND ARROGANCE in not listing his car correctly and hoping my father would just give up because of the expense in taking legal action. BUT who wants a Vk BLUE MEANIE REPLICA with a 253 in it not my farther as the Vk never had a 253 in it from factory. I am writing this because as part of the deal my husband had to take down his review but i cannot let another person go through what my farther has had to endure over the last 9 months. JUST TO GET A REFUND FOR A MISLEADING ADD. The legal system is wrong if you the consumer have to pay for your own refund. Any way I just wanted to let people KNOW about his SHONKY PRACTICE and save them the heartache. If you buy a car from BERNIE SMITH PLEASE GET IT INSPECTED BUY A MECHANIC NOT SOME ONE WHO THINKS THEY ARE. I had to use my husbands account as i dont have one thank you LEANNE.V
Great to deal with someone who knows classic cars! – I had been looking for a HD Holden for a long time without much luck finding one in a reasonable state. Bernie had one for sale and I was quite happy with the condition and price. Purchased it online and had it sent to me in QLD. Arrived safe and sound and exactly how he described it to me over the phone. Thank you Bernie.
Be ware of Bernie smith – This guy is so dodgy his ad said ready to enjoy it cost me $20k just to get it roadworthy the car I paid $41k for a car only worth $45 in top condition had to spend $20k on it just to get it roadworthy and still needs another $10k to replace a rusted floor this man is the ultimate second-hand car salesman of unsafe vehicles

I go lucky, but knew when buying its 50yr old car(s) – I brought November 2018, 2 utes 71 308 HQ, and 78 HZ GTS (genuine throughout), 5ltr Fuel Injected Chev both $30,000. I checked for bog, couldn't find any. No bog in bodies when arrived in WA, both body's museum quality. $80,000 if original Sandman, the 71 308 HQ, yeah spent $5000 since arriving in WA, steering rod rooted, clutch plate rooted, new exhaust, brakes, but I didnt buy a 71 (50yr old) car expecting to spend nothing, am seeing them sell for $40,000+ 15 months later ((HQ Tray back Street Cars going for $50-$80,000). I am lucky guy, lucky buys, but I looked over them and I know F all about cars, and I give Bernie 5 stars, but I know its hit and miss buying 50yr old cars with any dealer, or private sale. Dont buy if you dont understand that. Thanks Bernie, mine was and still is a great buy x 2, and x 2 profitable vintage car buying experience.
My Experiance – I had the best customer experience when purchasing one of the cars that Bernie had in fact he was very reputable there were a few AFL players even walking around in his office there was even a wall of celebrities and memorabilia signed personally as a thank you for allowing them to purchase the cars it is most definitely worth a look as it’s one of a kind and by far the best in Melbourne as a side note he is a bit of character too

So would you buy a car here ? I m lucky the dealer and my inspection mechanic (who never inspected anything)saved me thousands by refusing a mechanical inspection. I no longer want this car and I will be buying elsewhere so make your mind up on this review I will leave my experience here for you to read

had no engine oil and needed 4 liters of coolant top up.
It was advertised with recon transmission and one of the reasons why i bought it. After 200 miles the transmission blew up and then a bill off $1550.00 to fix it.
I tried to called him on this and he had blocked my number, i used a different phone and he said because we agreed on a cheaper price when i bought (that we both agreed on) he will not do anything for me and said if i took it further he would sue me for loss of time.

Do Not Deal With This Man – Do not deal with this man. Sold me a HJ interstate and was full of problems. Told me he's not a mechanic so how would he know there were issues.

vehicle that was fabulous and what one would expect for a second hand vehicle. A few minor things had to be done when leaving with car. The Dealer assisted immediately when he did not have to as there was no warranty.
Reader Beware – I can not be more clear than this - buyer beware. just some superficial stuff, if you spent about $1k on car it will be ready for registration. He also said if for any reason i wasn't happy with the car he would buy it back at purchase price. I have also spent $1.5k just getting car going as it didn't even make it 1.5 kms home. Tow trucks costs, broken brakes, the car was actually sold completely unroadworthy and unsafe.
After i deposited the $24k into his bank account he never to this day took my calls.
I spoke to assistant [name removed] once, before he barred my calls, days later i used my wife's phone to call [name removed] to ask what was going on here
(naive me) explained how i wanted to return car as it was not even close to the photos and description, he listened politely said ok i will see what i can do, you guessed it, and neither of them ever called back.
This case will be front of consumer affairs shortly, then the tribunal and is with ACCC.
I trust this will help others from being conned and scammed in the future.
