Helping to make that decision Natalia gave up a weekend (precious when you have children and are the main breadwinner during the week) to do videos of the vans and conference calling to check my needs. highly advisable to check the vehicle’s history from the original source. There are several sites on the web to check vehicle history, but most of them operates outside Japan. Therefore, it is also hard to verify the authenticity of these sites. Japanese Auction Authorities have very strict guidelines and policies of vehicle auctions in Japan. Therefore, it is always advisable to get a report directly from Japanese Auctions, where the vehicle was originally auctioned and sold. However, some auctions only keep records for a shorter period. Hence, I found this site https://autocheck.jp directly from Japan to be useful.

I kickstarted my Tarago hunting and came across “Best People Movers” and was very impressed and excited about the “all” positive reviews, YouTube videos with families and children, the Export Certificates, high quality images and reports. I was keen on a Tarago Estima 2014 (advertised price AUD$27,995) and asked them to send me the original Japanese Auction Report for the vehicle, instead I was sent a fake report with doctored ODO meter reading. I clarified the repot with https://autocheck.jp and the report came as vehicle had a history of accident and last reported ODO meter reading including an approximate value of AUD$6500 excluding (Freight On Onboard and other import costs). It is to be noted, it is very cheap to buy vehicles from Japanese Auctions, which have higher milage, accident damage, hail damage, water damage and snow damage. Once the vehicle arrives from Japan, they clock back the ODO meter to attract buyers.

Car sales like “Best People Movers” operates a cartel including bogus vehicle history check sites from other countries, car sales, repairers, image editors and other relevant activities. Their smooth communication, lies like truth and compelling fake reports and summaries will make even the experts fall for it. The owner of “Best People Movers” had once appeared on SBS feature documentary, displaying her honesty and openness on Japanese vehicle imports. Unfortunately, it is proven to be fake. A while back, I saw another documentary on Channel-9’s CURRENT AFFAIRS, which had a striking story to “Best People Movers”. I am sure, we will continually be deceived from car sales like this, but I hope this review gives some context and to be vigilant.

We bought an Estima that day and Natalia was not pushy or hard sell she let the quality of the vehicle and her service make the sale. When we picked up the vehicle up the next day we were given 2 lots of all the paperwork needed for transfer of registration one for the motor registry and one for us. Services Australia commented that it was the easiest rego transfer she had done for an imported vehicle right down to not even having to photo copy the documents. This was the easiest and best large ticket item we have bought and we came away feeling on a high and feeling we were friends with Natalia, nothing was too much trouble. account. When something goes wrong with a car, comments like “I can’t make it a brand new car” or similar come into play, as was the case here. My favourite comment from Natalia was “There's no NOISE on the car. There's a slight clicking sound...” Just classic, I was waiting for this car to arrive for a few months and after all that they told me that car was not meant for me and I didn’t have to wait. Just a word of warning almost all Estimas from 2006-2010 have an inherent problem with intermediate shaft. What it means is the clunky noise coming from the steering wheel. Toyota didn’t do a recall even after issuing a technical sheet. Anyway it would be nice for the dealers to let me know of the problem before taking the deposit.

Sydney. Most of them were selling 2003-2009 models and only a couple of dealers had what we wanted in 2012-2014.

In the end we settled for series 3 2014 X model from Best People Movers in Kirrawee. The car is immaculate and price was $$$s cheaper than any local Tarago…

And what a difference in quality and options!

First of all, our Estima is AWD and now we can go to snow without hassle of putting chains.. Option wise, we got 360/all around cameras (!!!) automatic tailgate (!!!), both electric sliding doors, proximity key, push start button, cruise control, 3 zone climate control with air purifier, Bluetooth, etc. Our car has amazing spotless velour (not for long now, lol) and thick factory mats on top of carpet for every row and even on the steps. Beautiful finishes throughout the cabin.

Cabin is a walk through with lounge chairs in the middle. Back seats split 40/60 and folds flush with the boot floor. Great size boot even with all seats in action.. We all love how it quickly turns into a 4 seater: middle row seats can slide to the very back when third row seats are folded in the boot. Very versatile.

The only minus is that to keep 360 cameras, we had to keep the original unit and we missed out on new unit with in built Sat Nav. But to me, all around cameras are more important: I can always use GPS on my phone.

We put FM convertor in the original unit instead and changed language setting to English. So now most of stuff there is in English, and we can easily use it. Even 360 camera screen has English language now.

We showed the car to our mechanic and he was very impressed with its condition (70,000km on the clock now). It is a 3,5L V6 engine, but no timing belt, chain, and service is going to be reasonable, under $200 every 10,000km. Petrol consumption is around 12L per 100km around our area with hills and roundabouts and drops down to just under 10L on highway.

So, very happy with our car and can’t wait to take it on a family trip..
