Big Dog Raw Dog Food

This was a super dog food and I have been feeding it to my two dogs for many years. Recently though, the quality has changed entirely to a watery, slushy mass. Both my dogs got sick with diarrhoea, vomitting etc. The packaging has probably contributed to it as it is now different, leaking juices etc. Need to look for another food source after all these years. The new investor has probably influenced the recipes and demanded bigger returns.... Show details

I've been using this product for a few months and have been very happy. Unfortunately the most recent box has been very mushy and watery..it doesn't go as far and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same issue.

all in the freezer, ensure its all defrosted every meal) but it is really such a healthy option even mixed with other food. As a breed, golden retrievers are prone to hotspots and allergies, being overweight, and dogs in general often can get diarhea from what they've consumed. In his two years of big dog, he has had none of these issues, his weight is perfect, poos are perfect, teeth are perfect and I attribute this to his lifelong raw fresh diet. I cycle between different flavours and have never had him refuse a meal - overall it doesnt have a displeasant smell either and just needs to be handled as all raw meat would be handled. Can be used for puppies and adult dogs!

Inedible product, non existent client service – I have contacted Big Dog directly with my concerns but they haven’t responded. I see they comment on all low reviews here so I’m anticipating I’ll receive a response now, earning them minus 5 stars for how they go about their client service. fed novel meats. The product is extremely wet and runny, the consistency of watered down blended pate. Is this correct? My dog is physically unable to eat it at this consistency. There is nothing for him to bite into to get it in his mouth. He is just smearing it on his face, and consequently around the house. I’m puzzled by the product and disappointed. It will be going in my bin as not fit for purpose. Is it possible to receive a refund?”

I have since seen on this site that they do offer refunds if your not satisfied. Pity they can’t respond directly to genuine enquiries.

Update 1/11: five weeks later Big Dog finally responded to my email….long story short and two many of their smiley face emojis later…They said I could swap for kangaroo, no refund. As of this evening my dog says NO to the kangaroo based on sloppiness as well. I will be asking for a refund.

First of all, I have never seen him more excited for his meal, secondly he started losing weight and now maintains his ideal weight! He snores less, breathes easier, he has more energy and could walk for longer, we rarely have those dreaded anal glands issues that are common with pugs, and no more itchy skin since he started eating Big Dog 2 years ago. We’re so thrilled that we found Big Dog for our little man because it honestly makes him happy and keeps him healthy. We adopted another puppy and it was a no brainer to start her on this food immediately!

My dogs love this – I've been giving this to my 2 dogs for about 10 days now, they love it, both of them clean the plate and come back a few times to check they haven't missed any the first and second time. off, paying top dollar for healthy food I expect 100% healthy... no surprises! See how it goes. So far no problems, great product.

Used to be really good, but the last 6 boxes I've brought have been radically different, very high water content, defrosts to a grey fibrous consistency that is hard to mix. To me it looks like they have drastically upped the vegetable/filler content and reduced the meat. Looking for alternatives. Disappointing as its used to be excellent. Show details

lack of regulation around pet food to literally water down the product. I will be looking for an alternative raw food option for my dog.

Have used the frozen mince for a while and it's pretty good. Thought I'd try some raw bites for my Border Collies. Got some yesterday and when it thawed out it was terrible. Had the consistency of wet cardboard. I couldn't even pick it up as it would just fall apart into some sort of indescribable mush. No good I don't know what's in it, but it's not meat. difference- it’s also evident in our dog who is being fed the same amount of 2 patties per day, but has got thinner and less lustre in his coat. I suspect they are trying to save money by skimping on the usually excellent quality. I’d love to see comparisons of ingredients now vs 1 year ago, I’m sure there has been a change, and it’s not a good one. I’m disappointed as it’s expensive- I don’t mind paying for high quality but the price has gone up and the quality has gone down.

This has not only caused distress to my dogs but has also resulted in a significant waste of money. I would like to return the remaining boxes, but they have been opened and stored in my freezer. Given the circumstances, I would appreciate your guidance on how your brand can resolve this issue.

Not a good dogfood – Bought this for our Mini Foxie, as the reviews looked promising, she tasted a bit of it but won’t eat it at all, actually doesn’t smell like beef, more of a fruity smell, have left some in her bowl every day for a week, ( I throw it out each day when I get home and clean her bowl ) but she just smells it and walks away, will be throwing the remainder away, not good Show details

Another hoo haa from our petfood industry – Today i was convinced by a pet store to buy some big dog raw food for my fussy dog. I put some in a bowl placed it in front of him and immediately sniffed it and turned away . Now they tell you not to cook this stuff because it has small bones and they could splinter if cooked. A little below your usual standard – Firstly, I feed my 3 dogs Big Dog Raw dog food of multiple varieties they love it and I enjoy the ease in which I can feed a raw diet to them for the health benefits and with my anxious dog his mental health is better on raw rather than kibble. Love it! – I’ve recently started my adult bulldog on a raw diet but I found she was eating grass a lot so I figured I wasn’t keeping up with her veggie needs. Just one day after starting Big Dog her grass eating stopped! She absolutely loves the taste and although I see people complain about consistency, personally I really like it because it slows my extremely fast eater down so she doesn’t get as bloated eating! Perfect for dogs with sensitivities and allergies – Our dachshund has a sensitive stomach and cannot process fresh homemade food well but Big Dog raw food has provided a happy balance! the next, and so on. After 2 boxes of this were wasted as I had to defrost and open them to check I gave up. I took photos and contacted them, where I basically got a half assed apology and told it was "normal " which by the way, took weeks.

If I wanted to feed my dogs bone alone I'd buy them bloody bones. So I lost out on 2 boxes worth, and was very very disappointed with their idea of "customer service" . Looking at their reviews I can see this happens often. I will no longer her be feeding my dogs this rubbish.

Great way to start our pup on a raw diet – Have feed our dachshunds a DIY raw diet for years but am a bit time poor recently so switched to Big Dog Raw. Our new pup loves all of the different meats and along with raw meaty bones, is doing really well on this diet. Brilliant dog food they will eat with no waste – Three French bulldogs with allergies and BigDog gives four options with no chicken to choose from. us, meat on my hands is not a big deal. Only con, watch the fat content at 16% the frenchies will pork up pretty fast on the high calories but that said it really helped get a rescue dog into good shape when they had been malnourished. Good value compared to other brands.

Love love the product but don't like the packaging – My actual big dog LOVES this brand, and will eat any of the variants, no problem. tightly packed product. Can't open it without getting raw meat on hands. Have tried using both a sharp knife and scissors, but result is always...it's difficult! What if it was in a tube and you could squeeze from one end after snipping the other? Or something else, it's so messy to open two of these every night feed. (But we do it because the quality is great).

Getting my puppy back to good health – My very fussy five month old puppy had a bout of gastritis after I fed her another product. She is having 80% Big Dog as she transitions from cooked chicken and rice and she’s doing so well. She finishes her bowl and is already looking happier and healthier.
