We had researched many times on which dehydrator to purchase but always chose to keep the one we had...it recently died. So we made our new purchase and on my we wish we did it years ago. Six trays does so much more food than our last one so it makes it worthwhile. We have dehydrated some butter chicken and rice, chana masala and rice both of which we took hiking, it was amazing. Our 12 year old daughter has been making fruit leathers for her school lunches, fantastic. There is always the stash of banana or apple in the cupboard now for Monday lunches when the fruit bowl is looking a little empty. It is so quiet we have been doing it in our dining room with no need to close doors like we did with our old one. It is also a lot lighter than i expected so we have been putting it away in a cupboard when not in use as we don't have a lot of bench space.
Happy hikers live here.

Great workmanship, great product.

The BioChef 6 tray that we purchased works every time. Made some great beef jerky, which was our main reason for purchasing, and now looking to expand into fruits and vegies. Ease of operation, and ease of access are good. I would not hesitate in recommending BoiChef to anyone we know.

Great to hear you are enjoying the dehydrator so much. It really is quite a process of experimenting to create fun and healthy snacks. Check out some of the recipes in the link below for some tips and tricks with dried fruit treats you can try out also :) Enjoy! Not what I expected

The machine worked well but I don’t think it was what I wanted. I had hoped for crunchy veggies but got pliable leathery veggies. Perhaps I wanted freeze dried? But a quiet easy to use machine. Apples and bananas worked well tho I dried for a bit in the oven to get some crunch.

Quiet and quick

Dehydrator is so quiet compared to my previous one. Very easy to use, great to be able to look at produce through clear door, now I just have to perfect my timing so that fruit is not too dry. Highly recommend for value, efficiency and quietness. The wire mesh tray works a treat to stop items from sticking.

Great to hear you are enjoying the dehydrator so much. Drying times depend on thickness, ambient temperature, freshness of ingredient and so on. Just it really is quite a process of experimenting. All the best with it:)

It's sooooo quiet! :)

After a rowdy dehydrator I just love my new unit!! :)
Makes the b.e.s.t. dried biscuits e.v.e.r. :)

Great while it was working

I have had my dehydrator for around 14 months, using it maybe once a fortnight to make chicken jerky for our dog.
It worked really nicely.
Today, the fan stopped working, just as it did for other reviewers on this page. It is still under warranty, so I will have to send the unit back to the seller, Vitality 4 Life. The manual has already indicated that for all warranty claims, cost to return the unit for repairs are the responsibility of the buyer and these costs will likely not be reimbursed. That's bad business already as far as I'm concerned.

I will update this post as my warranty claim progresses.

Healthy foods here I come!

So far, I am very pleased with my BioChef Arizona 6 Tray. My order was processed quickly and the BioChef arrived sooner than I expected.
I have only had it for a coupe of days and have so far dried some of my home grown Pink Lady apples. I am nibbling the results as I type this review. My son also loved the dried apples I gave him. I may try a longer drying time next as I would like to taste a more crunchy dried apple. looking forward to drying some more of my home grown produce.

Thank you for your feedback Susan. It is fantastic that you are to be able to add dehydration as another way to utilise your home grown produce. We find that after a few drying sessions you will be able to determine the ideal drying time for you dependent on where you live climate wise and personal preferences. We have a few additional recipes on our website at the below link that may offer even more healthy inspiration ; https://www.vitality4life.com.au/blog/health-recipes/food-dehydrator-recipes/ Thank you again, The BioChef Vitality 4 Life Team

Good model for home dehydrating

I have enjoyed trying different fruits and veggies but Would like more recipes that are specific to makes vegie chips and also some crackers including times. I would also like some guidelines on electricity use e.g. Use my solar during the day or lower rates at night. I am concerned about running costs.

Hi Colleen, Thank you for your feedback. We do have a few recipes available that may be of interest on our website at the below link ; https://www.vitality4life.com.au/blog/health-recipes/food-dehydrator-recipes/ Dehydration has grown rapidly in popularity so the web is also wealth of information with many recipes available for dehydration online for a vast variety of products. These are all adaptable as the dehydration process is the same. If you would like a few specific cracker recipes please let us know preferences with ingredients - ie, Raw, Nut Free, Grain free etc and I will send you a private message with a few suggestions. Dehydrators are surprisingly efficient cost wise. I am not sure of your solar arrangements but to work out the cost per kilowatt you can use the below formula ; ( Wattage of Dehydrator x Hours Reqd ) / 1000 = Kilowatt / Hour So as an example ( 420 Watts x 8 Hour Session ) / 1000 = 3.36 kWh You will then need your cost of power through provider / kilowatt figure to calculate cost so as an example ; 3.36 kWh x $0.12 / Kilowatt = 66 cents for an 8 hour session. I hope this helps but please let us know if any other questions or if i can send any cracker info to you. If you prefer to speak to us directly our support team is available Monday-Friday 9am-5pm on our toll free number 1800 802 924 and would be happy to help. Many Thanks, The BioChef Vitality 4 Life TeamThanks so much for the detail. Much appreciated. I'm doing well with a low carb diet so would like more info on crackers and potato chip alternatives. I've been trying flaxseed and Parmesan crackers, zucchini chips. But not that successful in the dehydrator. Thanks again for your reply and support. Thanks Colleen. I will send you a few links via Private message for the crackers etc

Not as good as i hoped. Use a older version at work and live it. Not enjoying this purchase.

Does not dehydrated evenly. Very hard to clean. Use a older version at work and love it. The 10 tray for 340 dollars is disappointing. Not happy with it at all. Dont know why the a newer product is inferior to oldet version. Was going to call this week to complain and ask for refund.

Hi Tylor, Sorry to hear about your experience to date , we would like to help to resolve for you and run through trouble shooting tips to assist. We can also help with cleaning tips. The mesh and non-stick sheets are designed to be used with the dehydrator to ensure ease of cleaning. If you are not using these, baking paper is an alternative for ease of cleaning. There is also a non-drip tray included to catch drips and also for ease of cleaning which is placed at the very base of the dehydrator. We would love to obtain further details from you so that we can assist as what you are describing is not at all in line with the standard performance of the dehydrator. We look forward to hearing from you so we can help further, Many Thanks, The BioChef Vitality 4 Life Team

Froth and bits

We have been using it for few months now. Usually take 30 mins to make a 2L with cutting the veg and fruit to small pieces, so it doesn't clog up, and strain it twice. We got use to it I guess. Would be good to have one can produce juice without froth and bits though, is there?

Hi J B , I think you may be referring to a juicer rather than a Dehydrator. I will send you a private message so I can confirm and help further. Thank you, The BioChef Team

Good quality dehydrator!

I am very satisfied with my dehydrator! When it came into our home, the bread maker left and we did not regret. I use it for creating delicious raw food - I have never used it on higher temperatures for drying fish or meat, but it's absolutely wonderful for all raw stuff. I have never tried the Excalibur brand ( would love to) which is considered to be the best one in the world but i think there can't be much difference. The only thing that's missing here is a timer ( that's the advantage of Excalibur). That's not absolutely necessary but would be very convenient to have it. Kids also love this dehydrator and sometimes eat straight from the trays - can't wait for me to take the food out. In a nutshell, great appliance ... for the way we eat ....

Hi DraNik , Thank you for your feedback. It sounds like you really are utilising the dehydrator to its full intention and making lots of delicious food ! Many of our customers have found that an appliance timer works well with the 6 tray version. They are around $9 from a local hardware store and may be an option for you. Please let us know if any questions in relation to this and we would be happy to help. Thanking you, The BioChef Vitality 4 Life Team

Love my dehydrator!

This dehydrator has become a staple appliance in our house hold. I make yummy raw food from muesli to fruit leathers to stock powder.
It uses very little power and is not too big and bulky and as we have a small kitchen, I keep it on top of the fridge.
would highly recommend this product.

Thanks so much for the feedback BT51. You have mentioned many of the great benefits of the 6 tray option in our Dehydrator range. We had lots of customer feedback asking for a compact unit and the Arizona has answered this perfectly. Thank you again and glad you are enjoying dehydrating !The BioChef Vitality 4 Life Team

I have a 10 tray Biochef

I purchased a 10 tray which should have included 6 silicone mats. I phoned to ask there whereabouts and was told they would be in the next post. Two months later my wife phoned and was told they were still in production. We are still waiting and we're not very happy.

Hi Michael, So sorry about the mis-information. Unfortunately, the manual incorrectly stated that the Commerical 10 Tray Dehydrator included silicon sheets which was not the case. We have therefore had to have these produced and manufactured which takes quite some time. You can use baking/parchment paper as an alternative whilst waiting but I will arrange for a temporary supply of silicon sheets designed for our domestic 10 tray option. These will be smaller in width though so is only a temporary solution as a way to ensure you have something to use that can be re-used rather than the baking paper option. Apologies for this. I will send a private message to confirm the delivery address is still the same as we have on file. Thank you, The BioChef Team

didn't last long and cost so much to return

I bought this thinking expensive is better but 5 months in fan died then had to spend $60 to send it back for repair lucky it was under warranty but said in the fine print that i have to cover postage and then I have to wait a week for it to get to them then another 2 weeks for them to diagnose the issue then they returned it fixed but with a chip in the plastic and I was without a dehydrator for a month they were not taking responsibility that a machine that expensive should last a lot longer than 5 months and it shouldn't just stop. The whole point of going expensive it to not have to send it back. Now I'm concerned it will die again and I'll have to keep spending $60 to send it back every time and then even more concerned once it's out of warranty in a few months:( I'm really disappointed with the quality considering how expensive it is.

Hi Pam20, Sorry to hear this. I can assure you that it is very rare for the product to have any issues. $60 is quite expensive for the postal costs for this item so I will email you via private message to confirm a few details and also confirm the chip in plastic that you mention so I can help further, I look forward to helping you resolve. Many Thanks, The BioChef Team

Love it! And so does my dog, he howled for more after I made him liver treats.

Easy to use, doesn't use very much electricity (none because we have solar) and it's not too big. The only problem I had after a few goes the bottom of the door developed a little crack, it doesn't take away from how it dries food so it's not an issue.

So far we have made coconut yogurt, activated almonds, kale chip, banana and apple chips. Love it. It's quiet, very easy to use and fun. Perfect size. Love it, this is exactly what we were looking for, moving toward a raw vegan diet is now so much easier. Very happy.

I purchased this for my boyfriend for his birthday. We had never made beef jerky before but it turns out perfect! It gets used weekly and its so easy to use and clean. Thank you for your feedback Carly, dehydration creates a much better flavour and texture with the jerky, especially when you can create your own & therefore know not only exactly what ingredients are used but you can cater to your own tastes. Happy dehydrating and let us know if we can help with anything at all, The BioChef Vitality 4 Life Team

Been awesome so far

Our first dehydrator but it certainly is living up to all the reviews and expectations. If you are dehydrating chilli it is worth doing it outside or in a garage, gets a bit spicy inside the house if you don't. Device is very easy to use, came with nice extra drying sheets from Vitality4Life

Questions & Answers

How much power do they use at say 24c per kwh.

Hi George, great question. I have copied some information for you about the running costs of our dehydrators. If you would like to ask anymore questions you can contact us directly at support@vitality4life.com You will be glad to know that it is surprisingly efficient to run a dehydrator. To calculate the cost of running your dehydrator you can use the following calculation ; Step 1 : ( Wattage x Hours of average use for 1 drying session ) / 1000 = Kilowatts Per Hour Step 2 : Kilowatts Per Hour x Your own Kilowatt charge with your Energy company. As an example below we have calculated using average Australian Kilowatt charge and an 8 hour drying session as examples. BioChef 6 Tray Arizona Wattage = 420w x 8 hours) / 1000 = 3.36 kWh 3.36 kWh x 0.25 cents per Kilowatt = Total Cost 84 Cents for 8 Hours of Drying. As you can see, the BioChef Arizona Dehydrator is a very cost effective way to dehydrate food items over a long period of time. If you have any further questions about the BioChef Arizona Dehydrator range or I can assist further please let me know. Our support team are also available on our toll free 1800 802 924 number Monday – Friday 9am-5pm if you would prefer to speak to us direct,

As with the previous enquiry, there is no mention of how to use the mesh mat and non-stick parchment in the manual. For those like me who are completely new to the world of dehydrating some instructions would be much appreciated. Thank you.
1 answer
Dear Poppy thanks for your feed back, and good point, we will try and add some info on using the dehydrator sheets on our website or manuals. The mesh sheets are perfect for drying items like nuts and seeds or chunkier and dryer items that need a more circular air flow that wont fall through the holes. The non-stick sheets are perfect for making flat breads and fruit leathers, items that have a high moisture content which might seep through the holes. If there are any more questions please do not hesitate to contact us here anytime at head office on 1800 802 924 All the best the Vitality4life team.

Hi I received my biochef arizona yesterday and have already used it with great results. However it came with 2 different non-stick mats and there is no mention of these or how they should be used, in the instruction manual. Could I use the flat mats for dehydrating bananas, as these were a bit tricky to remove from the racks and were slightly stuck? I would like to know whether their use may prolong the dehydration times due to effects on air circulation etc. Thanks Daniela
