Its a scan and the people perteruating the scam know it. Do not expect any sort of reasonable response. Try to get your money back through your payer ie bank paypal etc. Report the scam to Consumer Affairs.

Dear Blaux Reps, I was scammed into buying three of your so-called air conditioners. They do not work at all, not even as a cooling fan. I have written to you asking for a refund but you have just ignored me as I expect you will do again on this forum. Your product is rubbish. Prove you're not scammers and tell me how I can get a refund.

I'd suggest checking out the garbage bins of the other people who have also reviewed the item. Please take your complaint to the Fair Trade or ACCC. It doesn't sound like you have missed anything by not receiving them. apart from your money, which is definitely unfortunate. They are even being advertised for $29 and less. I'd guess that instead of returning the useless items, they aren't getting enough returns with which to fill their current orders. These scammers should be dealt with to the letter of the law so that they can't continue to do this to people. I'm just grateful for each of the people who have Reviewed these devices otherwise I'd have been another victim of these thieves. Australian Sellers aren't allowed to do business in this manner, so our govt. departments should be doing something to stop them, maybe take all of their stock the moment it arrives on the docks in Australia, then deal with them through the Courts. What are customs doing? They are allowing these units to enter the country. I'm genuinely sorry for every person who has been duped by these monsters. I think that they believe it's ok to rob Aussies because they think we can afford it, but if people could actually afford it, they would have ducted air-conditioning! A sincere THANK YOU to each person who has taken the time to send in warning reviews.

Can anyone recommend next-best effective alternative to expensive window air con to cool my 3-room flat, even if I have to get three units? Thanks!

JohnM
JohnM

It depends on your conditions. Ambient temperature, humidity etc. If you have to drop your temps more than a few degrees C ( probably any more than about a couple of degrees) and/or you have higher relative humidity then sorry the only way is to air condition. ( real air condition ).

That’s the state of the art.

Evaporative coolers, like these Blaux, do work a little ( tiny) bit. But they can’t cool a room much because of the laws of physics they function by. Don’t believe the claim of using new technology. It’s actually old technology. The only new bit is they use lithium batteries and low power fans. The actual cooling bit is very old. If the room is big and the humidity low then the bigger the unit the more it will cool, but still only up to a point. But there is still a limit because the amount of energy used in converting liquid to vapour is still limited. If the humidity is high then it further limits the water that can be evaporated. So no matter what conditions you have evaporative coolers have limitations.

Again, sorry but the state of the art is - air conditioners (real ones that is) are the only way to truly cool down a room in all conditions.

True, that's what I have come to realise too. For me, the trouble is, I will have to move to my own flat by next summer and I don't want to have to install, uninstall and re-install my air cons, if that is even advisable. I will somehow tide over these few months with temporary solutions. I am mostly at my desk during the day, so something that can cool the air around me even by a few degrees will have to do. I might try out a Dyson or DeLonghi portable AC for one room. If they fail, a fan and a wet towel it shall be:)! Thanks, anyway, for all the info. At least now I know what not to expect!

Late to the comments, but I recommend a Close Comfort system. They are not the cheapest, around $670 for the top model. Aussie designed, it IS an AC unit, but designed to not cool the whole room, just where ever you're sitting/working - a micro climate they call it. Does it work? I'm sitting beside it right now. Didn't want to rig an AC system, or use on of the free standing ones that come with a window kit. This little system uses much less electricity than a normal AC and cools me down and also my wife sitting beside me. It cools me down more because I'm sitting right beside it, but I like the cool much more than her so it's actually perfect for our comfort. Note - I'm not affiliated with the company at all, I just think you'd love it because you say you're sitting at a desk and you want something to easily take with you. I just found this thread because I was checking out the Blaux through interest because I've been spammed with advertising for it recently. Seems the Blaux is crap, the Close Comfort is excellent!!

Oh, good, thank you! I was just bracing myself for the coming heat waves, resigned to having to splurge on an air con for at least one room. What you have recommended might be just what I need, especially if I am going to be able to take it with me. It would give me time to think over my options for the long term. Apart from the cost, what puts me off about an aircon is the ongoing maintenance of it. Thanks again!

I would suggest one of those larger Pedestal metal fans that osculate, they are between $100-$150 , I bought my elderly mum one last year and it did a reasonable job, just tilted it upwards a little so it wasn’t overly windy for her , it was definitely more comfortable and it was affordable and you can move it around , or better yet, get two , they do a much better job than normal fans, they are much larger, they spin a lot faster and the blades are longer, I bought it at the good guys, and I think they do a great job, good luck to you with whatever you decide ,

Alter E.
Alter E.

Thanks for your suggestion, Sheree! I have a small pedestal fan in every room. I live in Australia where summer heat hovers around 40 C in January. If a bigger fan could do the trick I would buy one today. But it seems to me it would just be moving more of the hot air around? May be your weather is not so bad in summer. Update: I have spent hours reading reviews of all the cooling options and watching demonstrations. None of them seem practical for me. Listened to one 'professor' doing a hard-sell for his new product. Going with your option - a bigger fan, with the doors closed during the day and plenty of water for a fortnight or so! Shouldn't be a big deal. Other countries have it way worse, just like the Covid situation. Thanks again!

Hi Alter E. I had a portable air conditioner because although where I am has air con, it just seems to quite literally, hit an invisible curtain by the time it reaches my bedroom door. You can actually feel the heat just between the inside & outside of the door frame! I gave my portable unit to a friend before checking out the brand new air conditioning unit that was installed, but it cools everywhere (largish open plan) except for the room I spend the majority of my time, which is my bedroom. As I live in Hervey Bay, and just metres from the beach, it gets both hot and humid here .... It's only when the temp hits around 30+ that I even consider turning on the a/con. Just to give you an idea of the cooling/heating areas, my place is a decent 3 br with open plan living, dining, & kitchen, as well as 2 bth rms. I was fortunate to have another friend who installed 2 extra 'proper' (note how well versed I am on technical jargon) air conditioners in her house, so she gave me her portable air cond. which is the same as the one I gave away. It's a Kogan & also came with a remote, which of course I'm also a wizz at using those 'thingys' too .... so I'm about as well informed on using the remote as I am on my technological jargon! It cools so quickly that I actually have to turn it off every now and again because although I set it to 28C, it still gets too cold for me ... Of course my pooch only wants to come in and out of the room on numerous occasions, as soon as I turn the a/c on, so in the end I often just give up and use the ceiling fan! After all, it is her house, and she's kind enough to not only let me live here, but to also pay all related bills!

So, considering my experience with hot, humid weather, knowing that I probably wouldn't be using it for another Summer, if it were my decision, I'd opt for the portable unit that has the 'pipe?' going outside the window. It's not an evaporative a/c because I don't have to put water into it, so the pipe is only to let the water out that it sucks out from the humidity in the room. At least you would be able to sell it when you move without losing a heap of dollars on installing fixed a/c, possibly boxing in around it to fit correctly, then having to remove it, repair any installation boxing, marks, as well as removing the outside unit when you move. You'd also need to consider if it's easy access to install the outside unit, as well as where you'd need to place the ducting. At least with a portable unit, you'd save yourself a whole heap of work if you chose to go down that path, and you'd probably just decide to leave it where it is when you move. At least with the portable, you'll be able to either just keep it, or resell it when you move. I'd also guess that if you only have a 3 room apartment atm, I'm sure that it will be sufficient for your needs at the moment, and consider that it will also heat the rooms depending on in what part of Oz you live. I've lived in Broome & Airlie Beach and had the air cond. on 24/7, but it's only bad for about 3 to 4 weeks a year here in Hervey Bay, and even then I rarely use the big fixed air con because it gets too cool for me as I prefer the warmer climate. If my fixed air con had been fitted in the centre of the apartment, I'm sure it would be perfect, but the builder took so many short cuts trying to save money that he probably didn't want to pay for the extra 8 to 10 feet to install the piping into the centre of the open plan area where it belonged. Instead, he placed the internal unit directly adjacent to the outside wall where the external box was placed! Some builders shouldn't be allowed to have a license! I guess it's like some cheap scammers shouldn't be allowed to import shoddy products! Whatever you decide to do, I hope that you will at least be able to enjoy it before the end of Summer, but if you've been waiting since November, you will still be able to enjoy another 2 months out of it. Good Luck to you anyway ...

Blaux portable air con is advertised as weighing less than two pounds, and capable of running non=stop for 30 hours on a rechargeable lithium battery. There does not seem to be an exhaust pipe or cable for recharging. It is said to be able to be charged at a usb port on laptop, etc. Is this air con any good? Thnaks!

As Michael H said stay away from it its a scam In answer to your question yes it does have a USB C type socket in the back at the top. It comes with a C type usb cable. But don't buy it. Its just a fan and there are cheaper fans available. You could achieve exactly the same outcome by draping a wet cloth over a normal fan.

Hahaha, thanks JohnM, Michael H. Yours are the only reviews on Blaux AC. It's advertisement on YouTube is so good, I almost bought three, LOL! Guess I am your average sucker and then some. https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/close-comfort-cool-focus This looks perfect for your needs and also good price point too! I've just discovered that you are in Sydney. I grew up there but it was far too cold for me to settle there .... so chose Hervey Bay for the latitude. After reading a couple of the other statistics, this link looks like a perfect a/c if you intend moving!
