Bodum Bistro Electric Blade Grinder

No wonder this grinder is discontinued – I bought this grinder to grind egg shells into powder. The powder comes out around the edge of the lid, when grinding, and ends up all over the bench. When I turned it upside down to clean it, I noticed powder pouring out of the hole where the on off mechanism is. I put it back on the bench and discovered the powder was also coming out of the… Read more
bottom of it, where the cord comes out. I can only surmise that the powder is somehow getting into the grinder from under the blade.
Annoying lid makes it difficult to start – Anyone else find the lid goes on not exactly perfect therefore you can't press the start button down? This REALLY annoys me and seems a huge design flaw. The safety switch interlock thing gets coffee trapped in it and the press down start doesn't work until its exactly lined up and clear, stupid. I feel previous grinders were faster than this one. It looks good on the bench is about it, expected better.
Lid breaks easily – Grinds coffee ok but if you drop the lid on to a hard floor it smashes. There are strong plastics available but Bodum chooses to use cheap brittle plastic for the lid. Crazy. Our lid has been glued many times and now does not operate the safety switch. Not recommended. Since bought a Sunbeam Multi Grinder II and this one shows how poorly the Bodum ground the coffee. Its twice as quick and grinds much finer. Show details
Perfect little grinder – I use it to grind coffee beans its great for a middle ground grind between course and fine fill it up and away you go very simple useable for anyone Show details
Small quantity/ home use only – If you need to grind beans for one or two cups this works well. If you are limited for room in your cupboard this also works. If you are looking for a grinder that looks hot this is for you. I use most days and hasn't failed me, but I only grind enough beans for one or two cups. Spoon out ground coffee and there you have it. Don't expect… Read more
fancy/ complex, as this is a very basic grinder but it does what I want it to do and as I said look great and reasonably priced.
Big name brand, average (but pretty) grinder – Does what it says on the box - grinds coffee. Doesn't do it much better than my old K-Mart one though, and is more difficult to clean. The blade also jams sometimes and has to be turned manually to get it working again. Coffee grinds occasionally get trapped under plastic lid making it difficult to use. I probably wouldn't recommend this grinder unless you really like its aesthetic, which I do. Show details
Poor design; spills coffee over edge of lid – So disappointed with this grinder because we read good reviews in many places and Bodum products are usually very well designed. The clear plastic cap of this grinder sits on the outside of the receptacle that houses the blade and unfortunately, after grinding, a little ground coffee spills over the edge of the receptacle and falls down between… Read more
the cap and the outside of the grinder and lodges there. So when you remove the cap after grinding, a little ground coffee spills on the bench every time. Very annoying and just too messy to put up with.
Another issue was that the notch to hold the cord in place at the base of the unit is too big so the cord doesn't lock in place. After picking up the whole unit, the cord dislodges and you put the unit down on top of the out-of-place cord. Also annoying. We returned this product, citing the design flaws.
Does what it says on the can – I only use this grinder for coffee beans. It does an excellent job. The machine is good quality and very sturdy. Pulse ability gives me freedom to choose exactly the size grind I want. Easy to clean - silicone pastry brush is best for cleaning. Excellent buy and value for money. Show details
Grinds nuts and seeds with ease! – I use the grinder to make pepita meal and also almond or macadamia meal for cooking. Pulsing gives the best results - light and fluffy meal. I fill the canister to just above blade level and, depending on the type of nut or seed, there will be large-ish pieces unground. I separate those and regrind them. I clean the canister with a silicon pastry… Read more
brush to get the unit mostly clean and then wipe over with a damp sponge. I wash the lid by hand.
I'm delighted with this little grinder
Great Grinder – I've had this neat and cool looking Bodum grinder (in black) for almost a year now. It's grinding coffee many times a week and it's doing the job very well. Very happy! I can enjoy freshly ground coffee at home now using the plunger that came with it ( was a special deal). A nice little plunger came with it.
Does a great job – I purchased this coffee grinder to use as a spice grinder and it does a great job. I found grinding the spices manually exhausting and time consuming, this does the job in just a few minutes! The one I purchased is red and I love how compact it is plus the cord stores away easily under the appliance. Not sure how it goes grinding coffee as I… Read more · 1
