Bonaire Pyrox Deluxe Wall Furnace

Crap unit and expensive to repair – This is the third wall furnace I have had in 36 years. The 1st one was the old original Vulcan one with rear vent . Did a great job and lasted 18 years. 2nd was not quite as good but still lasted 14 years before the heater exchanger cracked. Replaced with the Pyrox less than 5 years ago. About a month ago it started to shut off after about 20… Read more
minutes of running time. I called the company who installed the unit. Was advised they would come and inspect the unit but believed they knew the problem and it was an expensive fix. Within a day it was inspected and yes it was the problem as thought. Apparently they have to replace the control panel and would cost $900. This unit is less than 5 years old and apparently it is a common fault. My concern is if the replacement unit hasn’t been upgraded what will stop this happening again? Problem is there is no other option unless I outlay thousands of dollars. This unit has been serviced every year since installed and to have this problem is outrageous. Not impressed and would not recommend Pyrox.
If I could, I would score this Bonaire heap of expensive junk a zero '0' – After 27 years of reliable operation of two (2) 'Australian' built Vulcan Quasar Deluxe wall Furnaces, just under 6 years ago Climate Technologies' Canberra based agent convinced us that an equal quality and more economically performing natural gas wall furnace was the Bonaire Pyrox Deluxe Wall Furnace @ $4,500 for two units. Upon installation,… Read more
both two units were faulty and had to be immediatly replaced, with Adelaide based Climate Technologies offering us a lousy 1 year warranty extension on the faulty electronics.
Just 2 weeks ago and 6 years later, one of the two units has stopped functioning and is irreparable. Upon advice from distributors and technicians that the Bonaire product is no longer manufactured and irreparable due to very limited and likely unreliable parts, I have been forced to spend a further $3,000 to replace the faulty, 'under performing and noisy' Bonaire unit with what we hope is a more reliable branded Braemar Ecostar PWF30 Wall Furnace,
As an aged retiree being treated every 2 weeks for terminal cancer, I can't afford another $3,000 to replace the second Bonaire unit, which I expect will also soon fail to operate, once again leaving my wife and me in the cold.
As a known lifetime Australian industry advocate and supporter, I would like to believe that as a good corporate citizen, Climate Technologies would be able to provide some financial compensation.
Terrible – It worked for a couple of years while I was living there but then I moved and it became a rental property. I don’t know the exact date it stopped working but it was less than 10 years . I wanted to pursue the road of having it serviced . Paid the service fee that is repeated every few seconds on the service centre line as the only labour one… Read more
pays. However, after paying a large sum on parts, I get told I have to get someone else to do sone work on the heater before they attend. I promptly asked for a refund for the part. Get told it will take 5~ 10 business days. Might I add Bonaire doesn’t allow parts to be available for plumbers. It all needs to be done through them and then they try to get out of the Labour cost limit promise .
Spend your money on something better – Lasted 5 years before it crapped itself, would only intermittently turn on, then turn off after a few minutes. Service tech from a repair center had stated that they were rubbish models and not worth the price. Stated that the motherboard would need replacement. Changed to a Braemar instead which has worked perfectly since. Show details
Terrible - Noisy & Expensive – This heater does heat the house however the thermostat cuts in and out continually, just received our latest Gas Bill, much more expensive that previous years, we had a wall furnace for 20 years, this new model is noisy, rattles and very expensive, would never recommend this product to anyone. Show details
Wish we could have it replaced but, being tenants, we cannot have it replaced while it is "working", – The heater certainly heats up our small unit, but we are very careful to ensure there is adequate ventilation, at least what we deem to be adequate. It is far from the ducted heating we had in out last residence. We are not prepared to leave it running overnight because we do not wish to take the risk of CO leakage. Hence each morning we have to… Read more
start it up and we are forced to sustain very cold nights and mornings. It is not a satisfactory hear for anyone who wishes to have heat day and night.
Great when it's running !! – Purchased this heater for last winter. Heats the house very well when running. However, due to some inbuilt safety design factor (even on manual operation), it turns itself off every hour. Then re-starts and runs for another Hour. This continues for about 3 - 4 hours, then it changes and shuts down anytime it wants. Can be 5 mins, 10 mins, 20… Read more
mins etc. Absolutely annoying !! (it's not a thermostat issue, but a major design mistake. What a lot of rubbish. Bonaire know of the problem and just say it's a safety factor.
The next thing is we will be buying Ovens, TV's, Cars and so on, that shut down and do their own test. Just imagine that! We previously had another brand of wall heater. Went for >30yrs without a hiccup!
Great heating – Doesn’t have a timer very basic replaced our Quaser wall furnace. A little noisy could be described as a roaring heater. Every hour on the hour it shuts itself off and restarts. I found this odd and asked the company about it and they said it was a built in safety check. Given the options available and the cost I am happy with it so far. It… Read more
does give very good heating on a very low speed and temp. A little more for the gas bill this last winter but I expect that’s us getting used to the different settings. So far we have only run on manual apposed to auto, might try that this year.
It works ok – I've had this heater since 2008 and it's only just started to turn itself off with fault code F1 1. I had it serviced by a local guy via the Bonaire service site. He replaced a capacitor (big 4 lug thing, not your usual looking electrolytic) which controls the fan. It's back to working again no problem. It's actually a good heater I reckon. Show details
Terrible – Total rubbish. I wouldn't buy this if my life depended on it. Doesn't heat the room at all. Costs a fortune to run. Show details
Same problem with cutting out – The heater cuts out the flames and even when you turn setting to 4 no extra flames light up .if you put it up to 6 extra flames come on but then it is too hot. I would rather not have a thermostat and be able to just turn the setting I want and have it work. We bought pyrox because we previously had an older model for 20 years and we could control… Read more
it exactly. Much better model than this. Please do something about this. I adored we should get on to consumer affairs Adelaide as we paid a lot of money for this heater
Good replacement for 20+year old Vulcan Wall furnace – I am not sure why this is listed as discontinued. Mine is a new purchase from heating company. I had been putting off replacing my Vulcan wall furnace as the reviews for replacement were so poor and it was not possible to buy a replacement wall furnace with the same features; ie electronic with a 24/7 timer. Finally the old Vulcan gave out… Read more
completely and I took the plunge and went for the Pyrox Delux Wall furnace. Good replacement as it slotted into the same wall cavity and no need for repairs or patching. I am delighted to report that it has been a month and so far the heater is working very well and I am quite happy with it. The chilliest nights we have had have been around 6 degrees and chilliest days in the low teens. Heater is powerful and heats the back half of my small weatherboard house - kitchen/diner, lounge, bathroom and laundry. Plenty of warmth on the lowest settings. My digital thermometer is showing 21c in the lounge - which is a room away from the wall furnace. I have tended to run on "manual" as when running on "automatic" the frequent cutting in and out was annoying.
Even on manual, it does cut in and out, I have no idea why, but it does not seem to affect the running of the heater, so I'm putting it down to quirk. I do miss the ability to use "economy setting " which was on my old Vulcan, and I miss the timer function. However, as these features are not available in any other similar product, I must let it go.
In the meantime, I am happy with my new heater and it is doing a fine job. So far, so good.
Pyrox Delux Wall Furnace – Bought this unit last winter. Had nothing but trouble with it. Cuts in and out all the time without heating the room. Service guy came out 5 times trying different things to no avail. A new year is here and I am having the service guy out again to see what can be done. Please DO NOT buy a Wall Furnace from these guys as the heater is a piece of… Read more
[Word Removed] and they don't really know how to fix if. If nothing is done to rectify this I will be contacting Consumer Affairs in Adelaide to get my money back.. They should get someone out from the company to look at it instead of saying there is nothing that can be done.

Piece of crap – Perfect if you like useless things hanging on your wall for no reason. The only way this thing will heat your house is if it catches fire. Had nothing but error f1 codes from the very first winter I used it, but the company doesn't want to know about it. Useless trash.
Worst money I've ever spent – Wish I'd found this Review site BEFORE I bought the thing. Had it installed towards the end of the last season and had two call outs before it was shut down for the Summer. Fired it up again this year and it did what it felt like. More new bits fitted it's still costing me a fortune to run because amongst all the faults it no sooner turns off than… Read more
it lights up again 30 seconds later we go through the same sequence. Useles thing would love my 20 year old Quasor 40 back.
Sub-standard product – Unit originally supplied without heat shield for control board that eventually "cooked" requiring expensive replacement - out of warranty, of course! Then capacitor failed requiring replacement by double original capacity. Again more cost than should have been anticipated in manufacture. Capacitor can fail peripdically requiring expensive… Read more
service call. As former trades person I could do job myself but not able to access part! Generally poor product and would never buy again.
June 8th 2016 Update: Further criticism
The Pyrox Vulcan wall heater that I have is one of Models 4720001, 4720006 or 4720011. Original fault, as installed, was no heat shield for printed circuit control board. This was only added in subsequent manufacture but Climate Technologies couldn't have cared less when I complained. Subsequent faults were starting capacitor value too low and needing replacement by higher rating. This may require on-going service. But the reason for this observation is detecting small lever controls (lower right and left of outlet louvres) that adjust angle of heated air-flow. These are not mentioned, or even shown in the illustrations, in the so-called Owner's Manual! As someone who dealt with Pyrox when wire (before tape) recorders were around I am convinced that quality control is now history world-wide.
do not buy one – when not at home, and heater switch of if we had a power serge the heater would start up and run on full burst one way to your home down, no help from Bonaire (Vulcan)
Do not disconnect switch – Do not disconnect overtemp switch as saidin previous reviews you could burn your house down. If you live in the southern suburbs of Adelaide have probllems call Kevin 0413217484.
Good heater – After 25+ years of faithful service our Braemar D45 broke in August 2013. The tradesman advised the repair would be expensive and recommended we should get a new GWF instead. He installed a Pyrox Deluxe gas wall furnace, which we have now had for 16 months. We have used it a lot, particularly during the colder months and are very happy with… Read more
it. There have been no issues and no need to call for a service call in that time.
The only negative would be the energy efficiency. At 1.7 stars there are more efficient models around. In practice we find we use about the same amount of gas as the previous GWF we owned. However we’d also say this model is more powerful, keeps our living room warmer and heats a larger area of the house than the older model used to do.
After installation I remember reading some of the user reviews in this forum and expecting the worst. Happily this hasn’t come to pass and touch wood our positive experience continues.
Worst heater – I keep getting the F1 1 error and have to keep switching it on and off. A pathetic product would never buy this again. Does not heat a room at all not to mention they tried to say it would heat a house.. Have tried everything to fix problem but looks like i will never get my money back. Never worked correctly.
Vulcan silhouette wall furnace – Probably the worst piece of domestic rubbish I have ever purchased! Reliability problems from day one! Assembled incorrectly in factory. Modification update not communicated by Gas Works of Modbury. Remote control beam angle way to tight. Battery cover held in place with tape after first week. Engineering design and quality control should be… Read more
ashamed of this product! Low visual impact. Unreliable start. Bad design. Abysmal quality control. Very noisy. Pathetic remote control.
Make me happy – Control panel NOT being illuminated makes setting controls beyond difficult. There seems to be no reason for this except maybe saving a few dollars. this makes what should be an excellent heater close to unacceptable -if we had known this before buying, we certainly would not have bought it. Surely you have a backup position for this--please. Have… Read more

So far so good – Had pyrox deluxe installed 2 weeks ago doing good so far.was scared after reading all the reviews but so far it has done what it is meant to do, hopefully it won't cause any heartache. Will keep up to date if any issue arises. Keeping fingers crossed, hopefully the company has heard the complaints and fixed all the issues . Bonaire Pyrox Wall Furnace F 1 Error Fault Fix – Had the same fault error code f1 after a few minutes and then shut down. Here tis for all! The fire will work correctly from then. Dont forget to… Read more

Pyrox wall furnace – Terrible heater and terrible service when you try and contact the company. They continue to push my request 'to management'. I have had my heater for a little over 12 months and it constantly breaks down. Has anyone had any luck contacting fair trading for their money back? Grateful any experience in getting a new heater/refund.

Rubbish heater – 2 down and counting. the tradie is here now and it just stuffed up in front of him. When will these pieces of rubbish be taken off the market? One more callout and i will be demanding a refund. I must say the staff behind the counter at Climate house have been helpful.

Pyrox Wall Furnace – Worst heater on the market with a company that doesn't want to know you if there is a problem, My new heater didn't even last a week before a problem, this was fixed under warranty and it managed to last out the winter. fixed and I ended up buying an electronics "upgrade kit" for it. I had the kit installed and it still shuts down with an error message. This heater is a total waste of your hard earned dollars and is only good for land fill at your local garbage tip. It fitted the existing heater cut out in the wall. Everything! from operating to customer service.
What a disgrace for a heater & company – Purchased heater in May 2011 & had nothing but problems since. Told I was only person with this problem.... On the 1/7 a new service report was made, on the 5/7 [name removed] Customer Service officer contected me.. I have had so far 4 service calls on this unit, in the end I gave up using it and used my reverse cycle airconditioner. Now it has got cold again, I once again tried to use this furnace... and the fault still exsits.. When it is going it just shuts completly down....and you have to go and reset clock etc...So frustrating. I placed a service call to Climate on the Friday 25th May,, waited until 31/5 as no call back... Only to be told the earliest they can come out is the 6/6/2012.. And it might incur a service call.. I said that why should it if the unit has a warranty for 2 years.. They could not answer this, only to tell me that is what they have to tell people...
What a waste of over $1,000...
Warning People do not buy....apparently its a common unfixable fault.... Nothing,, trouble from day one Bad service,, not working... waste of good money..
Poor excuse of a heater – The heater nearly every fifteen minutes turns off the pilot light and has to be rebooted. I called the company about it and they said the solution is in the instruction manual. It just says to turn the heater off at the wall, wait 30 seconds and switch it back on. The fact they put this problem in the instruction manual says they are aware of the… Read more

The control panel appears difficult to understand and cumbersome to operate.
It does seem output a good amount of heat.
Getting the metal console to fit into the front grill is a real pain. Make sure whoever fits it knows what they are doing. Seems to deliver the heat, reasonable price Front plastic grill a joke.
