Bosch Logixx 8 Front Load Washing Machine

Poor experience with Bosch – I have had this machine for a few years and it has been a pain the whole time. It rusts. The door is an issue and it regularly has faults from flooding. I have the F23 fault which renders the machine useless. I would expect something that cost over $1500 to last ten years or more. Very disappointed in this machine and Bosch. Show details
Still going – We have had our ups and downs with this machine but it is still going, after 2 house moves, one 2000km. Replaced the door latch last year, over zealous person trying to get their washing out after loading it with pet fur blanket and blocking the pump filter. Aside from that, semi regular errors seem to stem mostly from the pressure sensor… Read more · 1
detaching from its anchor point and the occasional pocket pal (tissue/peg/coin) in the pump 'filter'. As already mentioned, it struggles with pet fur, has "fluff" tantrums at times, as do I though so fair go. Semi-regular maintenance would probably reduce errors i.e. take water inlet hose off and brush out occasional debris at least annually. I vaguely remember the super fast 1600rpm being a tipping point for choosing this one but can't justify as 1400 (even 1200) is sufficient and clothes often end up uneven in the spin so anything faster makes a hell of a racket, probably what shakes the pressure sensor loose. It has plenty of other great worthwhile cycle options though and does a good job the majority of the time.
Rectified: it was my fault. Bosch machine one year later. Is a dream.. *Door won’t open. HELP! it’s a week old – Edit: this was completely my error. I was activating the child lock. A year plus later, this machine is a winner. Highly recommend. * The machine is beautiful with a great price form appliances online. What’s been distressing is the door remains locked for several hours post wash/ dry. It’s a washer dryer in one. I have to fiddle with the dial.… Read more
For half an hour today. Then randomly opens. The machine is ten days old, and this is really stressful. I’ve not done anything inappropriate to the machine.

Love my Bosch – I’ve had my Bosch Logixx8 for 11 years now love it here in Queensland you are changing your clothes frequently so the15 minute cycle is ideal I moved from Melbourne to Queensland and the transport didn’t affect my machine All my family followed me and now have Bosch washing machines No regrets will buy another if this one dies Well done Bosch Joan Show details · 1
Not a single problem with this machine since 2010 – We have had this machine since 2010 and not a single problem. We are about to purchase a new model Bosch machine and dryer so was looking on here for some specifications of our old one and was so surprised to see such negative reviews. We couldn't complain about anything! Show details · 1
This is not like owning a top loader – We bought our Bosch Logixx 8 WAS32741AU/23 in January 2010 because we moved into a house where the laundry required the appliances to go under the bench. Our previous experience with a front loader/dryer was very frustrating (that machine used to take over 5 hours to complete a cycle and still leave the clothes wet) and one of the key attractions… Read more · 1
of this machine was the 1600 rpm spin speed, which should get the clothes as dry as possible. It was sold as a high quality German made machine, and one that should last a long time, but it was expensive for that. The machine has had heavy use over the past 8.5 years, completing an estimated 6000 wash cycles in that time. It washed reliably until May of 2018.
General reflections on the performance of this machine include:
The user interface is very complex, with a staggering selection of wash modes, and minimal information on when some of them should be used. Learning what worked for us was trial and error. We only use a few of the available options, but the wash results are very good. The stain removal modes sound good, but take so long that we have never actually used them.
The 1600 rpm spin speed works well when it gets going, but if the machine can't balance itself when starting the spin, it gives up without spinning at all and finishes the cycle leaving the load soaking wet. It does not automatically try spinning on a low speed to reduce the weight of water in items that are heavy when wet, like towels or blankets.
After several years of use, it started to develop issues mentioned in other reviews. The bottom of the door rubs on the cabinet, and eventually this wears through the paint and the cabinet rusts. Mould was growing in the door seal and detergent dispenser draw, and the machine was beginning to smell musty. Finally, in May 2018, it developed the F43 error code and stopped working. I called Bosch Home customer service in the country where we now live (we bought the machine in Australia and have since moved overseas) and they promised to call us back, but never did and actually stopped answering the phone at all. Having read the negative reviews on this site, I sadly admitted defeat, and purchased a new machine. I do not believe that a quality machine of this price should last only 8 years. The replacement arrived and the Bosch was put outside, ready to be dumped.
At this point, I decided to pull it apart to see what had actually happened. First positive surprise was this machine comes apart very easily. Second positive surprise is it well built inside. The components look big and strong and were all still in as new condition, including the motor. F43 is a motor fault, so I pulled the motor out and sure enough, the consumable carbon brushes were completely worn down. Since Bosch Home did not help where I live, I orderded parts online from the UK for GBP 28 and they arrived within days.
In the mean time, the machine was sitting outside in the sun, and not smelling good. I drained the water out of the pump, realised it was full of lint and sludge. The drain holes in the door seal boot were blocked by a plug of lint and sludge too, and mould was everywhere. The detergent draw was dry for the first time in years, and something like dried algae was coming off in flakes. Yuck! We have obviously not been cleaning the machine properly.
Once I had the replacement carbon brushes, I repaired the motor and put the machine back together. This only took 10 minutes. I then cleared the F43 fault using the "Turn Off, Door Closed, Turn to Spin, Hold Option Left Button for 5 seconds, Turn to Drain, Release Option Button, Turn Off, Turn on Again" sequence and the machine came back to life! Wash programs could be selected and the motor was running.
The rust on the cabinet was easily repaired by sanding it back, masking it up and painting over it with Hammerite rust killing paint. This is a design fault and paint repairs should not be required, but it only took 20 minutes to fix, so not something worth throwing the machine away over.
Now that the machine was working, and with nothing to loose, I gave it a very thorough clean out for the first time in its life, and most components cleaned up like new. To clean the door seal, I set the wash program to 90 deg C and loaded it up with chlorine bleach, and this actually worked. The mould is gone and the machine smells fresh. The lesson here is I have not been cleaning and maintaining it correctly, but will now do so. Top loading washing machines can drain and dry out, so this sort of cleaning isn't required, but all front loaders seem to have issues like this.
Current situation is the machine is now washing as well as it did when it was new. Having worked on the machine, I have more confidence in the build quality, so we will see how long it actually lasts.
Key learnings for this machine and for Bosch Home:
Most components in the machine are well made (I see door locks may be an issue, but ours has been fine so far), so if yours stops, especially with an F43 code, don't panic yet.
Bosch Home support where we live has been no help at all. Seeing other people's comments, I would be concerned that service technicians would insist on replacing the controller board and more because they either do not know the reset sequence or realise that you don't know there is one. Bosch have not used their standard reset on this machine, so make sure you try the right one. Bosch Home UK has spare parts and information available on their web site and I never needed to speak to them. Videos on how to do repairs are available on the web.
Cleaning the machine is critical, and we have not done it well enough to date, but we have learned that lesson and will see whether we can prevent mould and smells in the future.
We will see how long the machine lasts now. Four stars for washing well, being mostly well built, and easily repaired.

Door seal collects mould – seal on this model collects lot of mould despite leaving door open when not in use. Reiplaced the seal and got the same problem. never buy Bosch washing machine again.
Was good for a while.. but for 2k don’t spend your money on Bosch – Had this machine since 2011 and don’t use it very often. Suddenly today the door won’t open.. no error code. Door just won’t open. No error code - after reading below reviews I am certainly not prepared to pay $1000 to fix this or $500 for a seal. In the process of renovating and was considering Bosch products but will be looking at other options now. Not sure what to do from here! Show details
Don't waste your money – Purchased the washing machine in Oct 2011 and paid $1800. In about 6 years time the handle to the door broke and the replacement cost is expensive and just yesterday while the machine was running it started beeping and displayed an "Error F57". Searched the manual to see how to fix the error no result. Called up their 24/7 customer service and… Read more
they had not heard of the error too. Google was our best chance to get some answers. Google said the machine need circuit replacement. I have paid approx. $1800 for this machine and it doesn't even last 10years. Why does Bosch make such cheap quality products? As a big organisation they should think about their carbon footprint and the environmental effect their products have if we have to dispose off these machines so quickly. The repair is going to cost me more than $700 and a new machine is going to cost me the same so guess what my choice would be??? I would prefer to repair this machine and use it but not at the cost I am looking at.

Only lasted 6 years – Bought from Good Guys Preston as they recommended this German model against Bosch's Asian built one. LG washing machine(purchased the LG for $800.00 and lasted 10 years). Well after 6 years (only doing about 4 to 5 loads a week) the Bosch washing machine stopped working during washing. Called the service guy out and need to spend about $1,000.00 to fix it. Decided not to fix it and put the money towards a new one. Extremely disappointed with this Bosch product only lasting 6 years after spending $2,000.00. Obviously German made isn't what it use to be. I'm definitely not buying another Bosch product especially when you need to pay top dollar and it doesn't last. I thought when I purchased my Bosch washing machine I'll was getting a product that will last 10 years plus. Only a 2 year warranty on this Bosch product. Well that only tells you how confident they really are.
Design faults and just does a terrible job at actually washing cloths – Fixed multiple times under warranty/extended warranty (whole door, door solenoid, door handle). The door handle just broke again, out of warranty now. There's a design flaw in that a tiny little bit of plastic pushes a metal latch. The plastic breaks. eBay sell replacement handles for about $40 so get used to buying them. Ignoring the handle… Read more
issue, these machines do a terrible job at washing for anything other than a small load. The wash quality is helped a bit by changing the "aqua plus" setting and adding a couple of extra rinse cycles, but you need to change this setting everytime you do a wash! I think they took the water saving too far and as a result medium to large loads don't wash well. The machine also leaves water around the door seal and inlet causing mold. The tip here is to put a load through at 90deg every now and again as the high temp kills off the mold.
For the thousands of people with broken handles - this video is the answer - and then ebay for a replacement handle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqG0muS8hTc&feature=youtu.be
So many issues – Loved this machine in the beginning but now wondering why I got rid of my top loader. Constantly being left without being able to open the door - sometimes with clothes inside or now not being able to shut the door even though it is actually closed. Door latch has broken several times as it is plastic and cannot withstand daily use. Expensive machine that has broken down many times. Show details

Bosch Logixx 8 WAS32742AU/08 - suggest stay away from this model!! – Have had minor issues (door handle replacement and intermittent faulting) over the past 5 years. 2 months before my machine's 6th anniversary I got the F:57 error on completing a load of washing (needless to say, washing was on the inside and I couldn't get it out!) after hours of scouring the net and unable to determine cause of the problem we… Read more
managed to use the emergency door release (red tab) and in doing so completely wrenching the red tab off/out. All looked good until I set to do another washing load and was immediately presented with the F:57, this time having no way to open the door. One week later I managed to get a technician who advised this was a 'fatal error'. Either the motor or control module was to blame, nothing to do but try and replace both. At the quoted price of $900+ I think I may be shopping for a new washing machine - thinking not a Bosch! Very poor quality for a $1,900 machine, certainly expected more than a 5 year life span, obviously German technology no longer the standard one would expect...and I have a load of washing in the machine that I can't rescue - technician suggested I break the door to get to it as there is no way to get it out otherwise!!
Poor design, dont purchase. Premium price - dud product – Like most people here I have the following 3 main issues: After about 5 years we got the dreaded F57 error that everyone seems to be getting around this time. This hasnt been fixed yet. The front is rusted badly and on removing the covers I found that it has extended to inside the washing machine. The front seal is very mouldy, no matter what… Read more
we try and clean it with. Extremely difficult to remove and the price for a new one is a quarter of the price of the entire machine.
For a premium price this is certainly not a premium product. The lifetime of a machine like this should be at least 10 years.
My other complaint about this is we find we always have to press the 'add extra water' option. If you keep it on the eco setting to save water with a full load, some parts of clothes come out dry....
On the plus side, if you do add the extra water, it does clean the clothes well and it is quiet.
I really dont think Bosch quality is what it used to be, I would need some serious convincing to make me replace this with another Bosch.
Absolutely disappointing – After working well for two years, one of the electronic circuit boards had to be replaced, now six years later we are looking at replacing it for the third time. It rusts and is not worth the money. Rather buy Samsung, LG or Simpson for half the price and dispose of it when it plays up. Bosch is not what it used to be. Show details

Great Machine - New brushes after 8 years and running as good as new – I saw a pile of bad reviews for this machine on this site after Googling the F43 code, and know all too well that most happy customers generally don't contribute - whilst disgruntled customers are (quite rightly) venting their woes while seeking a solution. a great machine.
After 8 years of flawless service we got the F43 error code.
No problem - I whipped out the motor and changed the brushes and reset the machine in less than 30mins with nothing more than a bit of YouTube research and it is working as good as new again.
$39.95 total cost.
The 8 years has had some solid workouts too, including :
* Duvets, blankets and Pillows
* Heavily soiled construction site workwear
* Constant 1600rpm spins with full loads of towels to reduce drying time throughout winter.
Whilst the old carbon brushes were VERY worn, I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did with the sort of use it gets.
Paired side-by-side with our Bosch Ecologixx dryer, our laundry is very hard working and great looking !
Great work Bosch :)
Impressed with service – This machine has some fantastic features like the stain removal. However it rusted up on the front panel approx 2.5 years, then the door would not open. Replaced by Bosch with another model, thought their customer service was excellent, but I miss the stain removal option (with no added detergents) it was brilliant. Show reply
Inside of machine rubber mouldy – The machine is very loud in its spin cycle. The inside rubber of the machine has become mouldy and no matter what clean we use it can't be removed, it has be replaced. I have had other brand front loaders and never had this problem. I am very disappointed with the machine given the price paid.

have to pay for a service person to out, which would take one week. I called another company, which was recommended by Bosch, and they sent someone out the following day. I was informed the motherboard has died and this was a common problem for these machines. The call out fee was $155.70 and it will cost an additional $405 to get the motherboard replaced. I am extremely disappointed that Bosch believe it is acceptable that a machine I purchased for $1900 should only last four years and cost a further $560.70 to get fixed. I have gone ahead with the repair and my next call is to consumer affairs.

information. Three weeks later, received reply from Bosch showing how to reset it (which appeared to be a very standard, non-personalised response leading me to further assume that you are fully aware of this problem). It worked for ONE wash before displaying the same error message. I repeated the reset instructions, which allowed for one more wash before the error appeared again. However, now the reset has no effect whatsoever and the error message appears permanently. You obviously have a consistent problem with this washing machine that you are fully aware of, so instead of messing your customers around, please take responsibility for a faulty machine and fix the problem. I know many people who have given up on Bosch and bought a new machine. The customer service from Bosch was once excellent many years ago but has now obviously deteriorated along with the quality of your products. Also, I am yet to receive a response to the many phone calls and messages I have left. For the price I paid for this washing machine, I would have expected much more.

out of couple items they would come out dripping wet after repeated spin cycles or different spin speeds i see another person here has same complaint. Now i cant even use my Bosch as its TRIPPING my mains power so its obviously has electrical fault. Service call fee out costs $130 to $170 what a joke. I put it on 9 minutes of spin cycle then machine would shut down and trip the mains, tried it on wash cycle did 4 minutes of wash then it would trip power its got fault somewhere, right before Christmas i don't have backup washing machine. When i outlay huge money like that i expect it to last i expect quality if i wanted junk i would've paid lot less. So to me i would highly recommend people to think about NOT paying more than $1000 for any washer when we are living in a throw away world. Machine motor died after 4yrs and Bosch didn't care – We bought this washing machine 6 years ago. 4yrs is very young for a machine of that price to die). Thankfully we had an extended warranty, so managed to get a much cheaper Samsung machine as a replacement (which incidentally has never missed a beat since we got it). It's still absolutely unacceptable as the Bosch machine should've lasted far longer and, given its complete failure, Bosch should have replaced it with a working machine.
Their customer service is the absolute *worst* - it seems their standard go-to response is to blame the customer for faults with their machines.
We've also had a Bosch dryer for 3 years now, a WTE84101AU. At the beginning it worked, but it took forever to dry anything (we'd have to put it on several times). We also had to replace a broken handle and the seal tore.
Then after a year or so, it started having 'empty container' issues - ie. it stops every 2min and tells you to empty the container. We spoke to Bosch and they said it was most likely caused by something we'd done (as in the terrible crime of putting clothes in it to dry) and they wouldn't repair it under warranty. 2 years later, we're still living with a dryer we have to turn on every 2mins due to not having the money to replace or repair it.
I bought Bosch because I used to believe you get what you pay for. I doubt I'll ever buy it again, at least as long as their customer service is so utterly abysmal.
