Problem solved – We built a new house and had both solar power panels and a solar panel hot water system installed. Approx 18 months later we decided to get the panels cleaned only to find the hot water panels are full of water. The condensation on the inside appear to be reducing their generating capacity by about 80%. Bosch's response is that IF it is the… Read more

panels, then we only have to pay labour costs. If they decide it's not the panels then we have to pay all costs!

Surely this is a clear case of faulty workmanship and or installation. It seems the panels were not even remotely water tight and may never have been.

The power panels sitting next to the HWS panels are all still perfect.

Very disappointing Bosch.

Edit 1

Since posting this we have discovered (through satellite imagery) that these panels have had up to 100% condensation since installation. Have advised Bosch but they have declined to respond. Still waiting for some resolution.

Edit 2

7 weeks later and the repairs still not even started. Very little communication from Bosch. Repairer was finally coming to replace when Bosch asked him to hold off. Meanwhile family of 5 (including small baby) without hot water.

Edit 3

It took over 8 weeks but the systems has not only been repaired but Bosch have agreed to pay for all repairs under their goodwill policy.

Overall - pretty poor communications, slow to fix, but happy with the result in the end.

Time will tell if the HWS continues to perform well. We will be getting regular photos from satellite so we can see if condensation returns.

Thank you Bosch and Gas Doctors.

Very happy with this unit – We had a gas boosted unit put In a few years ago to replace the old electric storage unit and its been the best decision made. The electricity bill has reduced dramatically. There was an issue in the first 12 months with a faulty frost relief valve kicking in when the outside temp was 12-14 degrees and wasting a lot of our precious rain water. The… Read more

plumber admitted that there had been a problem with them and came out and replaced it and we haven't had a problem since.

Don't even think of installing a Bosch Solar Hot water system on acreage – I live on acreage north west of Brisbane. I have a Bosch Hot Water System that is approximately 19 months old that was installed on a new home supposedly to save money and water. My home runs on tank water with pump. I have lived on screage with tank water for most of my 64 years. Within one week of moving in October 2013, we recalled the… Read more

installing plumber from the company who built the home to fix the leaking solar. He assured us all was well and to check our pump. Two callouts and work on pump ( cost approximately $180 a time) our pump was still switching on and off at about 60 second intervals during the night, even in summer. A leak of the solar was not obvious. It got louder and louder, and the pump was turning on and off at 30 second intervals, then we found the leak. We lost more and more water, until the pump ceased to operate, dispite the fact that we turned the blessed solar off from 10.00 pm till 7.00 am each night when most of the leaking seemed to occur. Cost of replacement pump $998. We found the leak on the system, that got so bad it was like a running tap constantly from about 8.00pm in summer.

Contacted building company who were excellent and who arranged for technician to contact us to arrange time. He replaced the Frost relief valve and said all would be well. Fools, we are to believe it. The dastardly thing still leaked but not as badly until last night when it fairly gushed down the roof, like a fast running hose. Pump was going crazy, on, off, on ,off at about 20 second intervals. Yes, it's winter Temperature outside was 10 degrees, no wind. We run the booster all the time the solar is operating during the day and we still don't get enough hot water for two showers and one hot wash per day. We don't get frost. Having trouble finding number of company who "fixed" the last fiasco.

This is the second Bosch appliance I've owned. Both have required several technician visits until I threw out the drier. Thanks to our energy efficient Bosch Hot Water System, our electricity consumption is higher than it's ever been and so is our water consumption. We received no operating manual with thhe system on handover of the house. It's a nightmare. Don't even consider a Bosch hot water system if you live on acreage with tank water.

If only we knew – Although this model water heating unit works well, there a still problems with the valves for frost protection. It does heat the water very well, and it has cut down the electricity bill a bit. Because valves open all times of the year, running of the water pump still adds to the bill. It does actually heat the water and it has reduced the power… Read more

bill a bit. After having the frost valves replaced at least 4 times they still open up and let water flow in the middle of summer nights.
